I hope Echuca does re-build, however there's plenty of doubt that the 3 players that have left to go to Locky have gone for $$$, given there is plenty of reports around town that at least one will be on less dough at his new home and that they had not left with any bad feelings but simply wanted to go and play with a couple of mates who are looking at having there last year of footy at Locky. !!
Heard Krueger is also in the mix at Echuca, the Wilson connection to Colbo I assume has come about through him being mates with Nick Night ?

Not sure if they played together or are mates from school? Big move from Perth to Colbo though...???

Briggs will be very handy and pretty much replaces the void of Campbell

Looks like its shaping up to be a very interesting season, especially with the Bears, Tat and possible Mansfield making significant gains in the off season. Anyone prepared to have a stab at the end of season ladder? Here's my guess:

Rochester
Mansfield
Seymour
Tatura
Bears
Swans

Mooroopna
United
Kyabram
Benalla
Echuca
Euroa

Am i missing something with the Cats, why the fall in their ladder position?

Briggs will be a great replacement and more for Campbell! Wilson will play at echuca if he returns. I believe that Briggs, Edgar and Merlo are only a scratch on the surface of further big name additions at Echuca. The natives are very enthusiastic about their prospects this season and four or five boys that were heading to Uni are staying. The tide has turned and continues to do so.

Screw drives McCarty into surgery
Shepparton Swans winger Matt McCarty has suffered a minor setback in his recovery from a knee reconstruction, with news he will have more surgery on Tuesday.
McCarty will have surgery in Melbourne to remove a screw from his right knee, which was reconstructed in June.
The 26-year-old ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament and damaged his medial ligament and cartilage against Seymour in round eight last season.
``I'm having minor surgery on the right side of my knee because there's a screw which is causing a bit of pain and inflammation in the knee,'' McCarty said.
``The screw is in the bone and it holds the ligament (ACL) there, but it's coming out with this surgery.''
Specialist Cameron Norsworthy, who performed McCarty's knee reconstruction, will again operate on Tuesday.
McCarty said he hoped to be right to play round one against Mooroopna on April 5 despite the surgery.
``The ligament is 100 per cent fixed. The surgery is a bit of a clean out, just like an arthroscope,'' McCarty said.
``It's a bit of a setback, but I hope to be back by round one. I'd like to think I might even play a couple of practice games to have a hit out before the start of the season.''
McCarty's rehabilitation has consisted of bike riding and tennis to try and build strength in his quadriceps and hamstring.
``I've been playing a bit of tennis which is good with the side to side movement and I plan to get into the pool work as well,'' he said.
The Swans had about 40 attend their first training run of the year at Princess Park on Tuesday.
McCarty, recruit Troy Snelson, the returning Damien Yze, Jason Rachele and Dale Sidebottom along with veterans Jarrod Sutherland and Brett Warburton were among the players who hit the track.

Bears bare their Bear assets
Shepparton is emerging as a genuine Goulburn Valley Football League finals contender this season after snaring two more key recruits.
Rhys O'Sullivan has returned after spending the past two seasons playing VFL with Box Hill, while three-time Nathalia premiership player Brett Vallender has also joined the Bears.
The pair adds to the earlier signings of Wangaratta premiership players Ed Clarke, Matt Pell and Marc Lord and former Murray Bushranger John Walker from Picola United.
``I'm confident we'll be a competitive side this year with the blokes we've recruited so far,'' Shepparton coach Richard Warburton said.
``We had a pretty strong midfield last year which we've topped up and picked up a couple of blokes to play in key positions up forward and down back.''
Vallender has accomplished a lot in his senior career despite being just 24.
The gun centre half-forward played in three of Nathalia's four consecutive Murray league premierships in 2005 and 2007-08.
He had his first crack at GVFL footy with Benalla in 2006, playing in its losing grand final against Seymour.
Vallender, a Nathalia farmer, said his friendship with Pell _ they went to school together _ was a factor in his decision to play for the Bears.
He is now the eighth player from last year's Nathalia premiership team to depart the club.
``It's taken three or four months to make a decision. (Nathalia coach) Nathan Trimby is one of my best mates, so it was definitely one of the hardest decisions I've had to make,'' Vallender said.
O'Sullivan, 20, missed out on playing in Shepparton's under-18 premiership in 2005 due to a broken collarbone.
He missed the first six games of his first senior season in 2006 after again breaking his collarbone during the pre-season, but played a number of impressive games upon return.
The dashing half-back moved to Melbourne in 2007 and has played nine senior and 25 reserve games for Box Hill in the past two seasons.
O'Sullivan said he was looking forward to moving back to Shepparton to be closer to his family and friends.
A second-year apprentice electrician, he is working in Melbourne until the end of this week before transferring to Shepparton.
``It looks like we've picked up a few and with the young players we've got and some key recruits the club is definitely moving in the right direction,'' he said.
Wouldn't be pinning my hopes on the 3 Wang signings if i was shepp? Pell very overated, just a battler will struggle in a poorer side, Clarke runs ahead of the ball not the toughy he's supposed to be and Lord will have to take the key forward not the 4th but is the pick of the 3? I'll be interested to see hoe they go.

Few minor Hiccups travvy........
Id say they'll make the six.
But need to look in there OWN backyard first mate.
We have some FINE young players Ready for the Call.
Just need to get it through to some.

Back to Back 16's Premiers. runners up in the 3rd, tells me, we have the Talent, Just not the gusto to give them a shot at the 'Big Time'. ;)

What happened to GRASS ROOTS FOOTY ????????????

All very quiet at Memorial park... Is there nothing to report?? Just how many outs and how many ins. The 1 consistant thing i see is people picking them for the wooden spoon.

Euroa out to rebuild after loss of talent from nest

Euroa returns to the training track this week with no recent recruits to stem its exodus of players during the Goulburn Valley Football League off-season.
Coach David Putamorsi is confident about discussions with three or four players, some from Melbourne and some from the Goulburn Valley region with a knowledge of the club's departures this season.

It is near impossible to argue any Goulburn Valley club has lost a list more talented and valuable than Euroa with league leading players and club legends among those to go.

Players to become exMagpies this off season include star midfielders Shane Clayton and Hayden Lamaro, 100-goal forward Mark Jansz as well as Scott Grainger and Damon Clarke.

Putamorsi, readying himself for his second season in charge at Memorial Oval, said the players to have left his club was fairly common knowledge, but only a minor obstacle to further recruiting.

"Once we get one or two there will be more to follow," he said.

"Money is important, it was once upon a time that players travelled to the country because that's where the money was, but you just can't do that any more."

Putamorsi said players in his ranks had put their hands up to take responsibility and become the new senior group.

However, the official position of assistant coach is still available.

"I've spoken to guys like Pat Horsburgh, Klay Giovannini and Brad Cunningham. Guys that will be trying hard to step up, they've been keen to get back into it (pre-season)."

The player turn-over will necessitate a new game-plan for Euroa this season, but Putamorsi said he was ready to work out some fresh strategies.

"We've got a few ideas up our sleeve," he said.

"We'll have new structures to work on."

Euroa's first preseason training session of the year is Thursday at Memorial Oval starting at 6 pm.

Wrong. Will play at Echuca if he came back. Only 30% chance of returning. He's not long been in a new job and likes it. Doubt he will return at all.

Again hard from a close source that Wilson has def signed with Colbo...Flying back soon to work out details. No doubt hard decision as Echuca are his old club but links with N.Knight secured the deal...
Massive pick up for Echuca though with Merlo, kid can play!

I haven't spoken to him since juniors but I have a close mate who plays in that district and my mail is pretty good...Even if he is playing there he might not even get a kick who knows how he has been playing since he moved up from juiniors so it is not a big deal...

Fair chance he could be at Colbo next year. Not sure what all the fuss is about:confused:

Ok big Arab here is his travel plans. He will be back in Echuca early Feb to visit family. He didn't come home over Christmas. Will then be heading back to continue his new Job. Very, very slim chance he will stay and if he does it won't be at Colbo. So as for Catter52 he is speaking tripe...He's coming home for a holiday!!! Yes he is mates with Nighter but very Doubtful he will play at Colbo. He has played in the last two flags in the Div 1 amatures in Perth and kicked a goal after the siren in one of them to snatch victory. The boy can Play!!!!:D

I know Wilson personally and have spoken to him at length and he HAS NOT SIGNED AT COLBINNABIN??? In fact just been with him in the last few days-HE HAS NOT, I REPEAT NOT signed with Colbo. He would be a handy pick up for Echuca and they are a good chance of getting him if he returns!!!!

Well my mail must be lying to me...we will wait and see I suppose.

Any news if Reyne has signed with Gunny?

Well don't shoot the messager there yeehaa, people could have also jumped down your throat over your reasoning for the 3 blokes going to LBU.
As for Wilson, my info is from someone close to Ben, he kicked the winning goal in the 2007 grand final win and his last quarter was very good but hadn't hardly had a kick up till then and the standard was very ordinary.
If Ben was to return, once again based on my info, is that Ben might struggle to adjust back up to GV standard and he apparently was offered a position with Colbo for season 2008 and considered it, and he may have his toes in a few ponds, without jumping into any of them.;)

Catter your mail is wrong mate but Reyne has not signed with gunny at this stage. He is close but he still has many reasons to play with echuca.
