Congrats to you and your team on the award though Trevor :thumbsu:

Hot of the Press!!!!
Echuca FC about to release details of 5 big signings...maybe the boys (dohn't, murphy and Mr Mini mix) might be regretting leaving for nothing other than $$$$$.Echuca need these new signings but don't think those boys who have left would be welcomed back anyway.

If they were would be on standard terms!!!!!

PS...still a couple more to come.

No offense ECHUCABOY but I hope these 5 signings can play in 3 positions at a time! If not it could be quite a long year for the boys in green from all reports.

PS ECHUCA BOY. You never could wield the willow very well anyway. Hope you didn't get out to Kruges though, that would just be embarrassing!

Rushy tiger...mark my words...a few more to come yet!!!!

I guess time will tell?:thumbsu:

Echuca are knackered from all reports...They need to get all the ex echuca boys back, Archard, McGLone, Height, plus there are more interstate as well I think...
Few going to Locky, and also Colbo....why are they not returning to Echuca? something is wrong there???

Catter: Yes it's true they have lost a few...good clean out though. The Guys going to Locky have gone for big $$$$$ and obviously when the times look to be tough they walked out...lack of character and wouldn't have them back anyway (i know the players don't). The others are reserves players who have played in the last 2 grand finals and are being poached to play in a minor league and are leaving because they can get some coin...EFC will bounce back and those names interstate you have mentioned...the iron is still hot!!!! As mentioned in my previous post.....More to come...dont worry about that!!!!!!

That is good to hear for Echuca I suppose...I saw young Reyne signed with Gunny yesterday and apperently Wilson is retunring and has signed with Colbo...these are the signings you would think Echuca would snare? it does seem strange...

Its the same with clubs and leagues everywhere... these guys can play in a lower standard, travel 20kms and get paid what they are not worth.......its the same everywhere. Very hard to compete with especially when blokes are doing an apprenticeship and so forth

Catter your info is close...but can tell you the above mentioned players will not be at those clubs and neither have signed...guess we will wait and see?

A triple treat for Echuca
Echuca has added a former premiership star to its ranks as the Murray Bombers took the first big steps in a recruiting drive this week.
Former VFL player and 2001 Goulburn Valley Football League premiership player Andrew Briggs will join past under-18s best and fairest Kade Merlo at Echuca next season.

Josh Edgar will also return to Echuca after a season away from the Murray Bombers in Queensland.

The triple signing for the Murray Bombers backs up coach Brett Henderson's pre-Christmas promise that the loss of key players was in no way damaging Echuca's chances retaining its top six status next season.

The Murray Bombers' departures this off-season include ruckman Guy Campbell and key midfield duo Adrian Dohnt and Morrison Medal-winning captain Colin Durie.

But the return of ruckman Edgar, on-baller Merlo and 196cm-tall key defender Briggs promise to be the first of a recruiting rush at Echuca.

Merlo and Briggs played juniors at Echuca, but are not returning to their home towns, opting to commute from Melbourne for matches.

``The boys had a pretty strong connection to the club and to (president) Leo Welch,'' Henderson said.

``We're certainly looking at recruiting three to four more, we'll be aggressive.''

Welch said a training base in Melbourne had been done before for Echuca players and would be a likelihood again for its out-of-area players.

Briggs played for Carlton's VFL team after the 2001 premiership at Echuca before three-year stints with Coburg in the VFL and Greenvale in Eastern District Football League.

The 26-year-old, normally a key defender but also able to pinch-hit as a ruckman, played EDFL representative football while at Greenvale.

``When I was 19 and won the premiership in 2001 I didn't know just how much it meant,'' Briggs said.

``I'm keen to come back and do it again, keen to help the young list coming through.

``I don't know Brett (Henderson), it's going to be a new relationship. Pretty much everyone I played in the flag with has moved on.''

The Murray Bombers have held running groups for the past five weeks and will host its first official training session of the year starting at 6pm at Victoria Park on Monday.

Have played against Briggsy a couple of tims. He is a very tall and athletic type. Pretty good pick up. He can go missing at times though and is a little soft for someone so big.

I hope Echuca does re-build, however there's plenty of doubt that the 3 players that have left to go to Locky have gone for $$$, given there is plenty of reports around town that at least one will be on less dough at his new home and that they had not left with any bad feelings but simply wanted to go and play with a couple of mates who are looking at having there last year of footy at Locky. !!
Heard Krueger is also in the mix at Echuca, the Wilson connection to Colbo I assume has come about through him being mates with Nick Night ?

I doubt you would have a better playing record Mitty so get back in your box ya muppett! You wont see kruger at Echuca....too busy getting hit by cars and stuff

Looks like its shaping up to be a very interesting season, especially with the Bears, Tat and possible Mansfield making significant gains in the off season. Anyone prepared to have a stab at the end of season ladder? Here's my guess:

Rochester
Mansfield
Seymour
Tatura
Bears
Swans

Mooroopna
United
Kyabram
Benalla
Echuca
Euroa

Screw drives McCarty into surgery
Shepparton Swans winger Matt McCarty has suffered a minor setback in his recovery from a knee reconstruction, with news he will have more surgery on Tuesday.
McCarty will have surgery in Melbourne to remove a screw from his right knee, which was reconstructed in June.
The 26-year-old ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament and damaged his medial ligament and cartilage against Seymour in round eight last season.
``I'm having minor surgery on the right side of my knee because there's a screw which is causing a bit of pain and inflammation in the knee,'' McCarty said.
``The screw is in the bone and it holds the ligament (ACL) there, but it's coming out with this surgery.''
Specialist Cameron Norsworthy, who performed McCarty's knee reconstruction, will again operate on Tuesday.
McCarty said he hoped to be right to play round one against Mooroopna on April 5 despite the surgery.
``The ligament is 100 per cent fixed. The surgery is a bit of a clean out, just like an arthroscope,'' McCarty said.
``It's a bit of a setback, but I hope to be back by round one. I'd like to think I might even play a couple of practice games to have a hit out before the start of the season.''
McCarty's rehabilitation has consisted of bike riding and tennis to try and build strength in his quadriceps and hamstring.
``I've been playing a bit of tennis which is good with the side to side movement and I plan to get into the pool work as well,'' he said.
The Swans had about 40 attend their first training run of the year at Princess Park on Tuesday.
McCarty, recruit Troy Snelson, the returning Damien Yze, Jason Rachele and Dale Sidebottom along with veterans Jarrod Sutherland and Brett Warburton were among the players who hit the track.

Bears bare their Bear assets
Shepparton is emerging as a genuine Goulburn Valley Football League finals contender this season after snaring two more key recruits.
Rhys O'Sullivan has returned after spending the past two seasons playing VFL with Box Hill, while three-time Nathalia premiership player Brett Vallender has also joined the Bears.
The pair adds to the earlier signings of Wangaratta premiership players Ed Clarke, Matt Pell and Marc Lord and former Murray Bushranger John Walker from Picola United.
``I'm confident we'll be a competitive side this year with the blokes we've recruited so far,'' Shepparton coach Richard Warburton said.
``We had a pretty strong midfield last year which we've topped up and picked up a couple of blokes to play in key positions up forward and down back.''
Vallender has accomplished a lot in his senior career despite being just 24.
The gun centre half-forward played in three of Nathalia's four consecutive Murray league premierships in 2005 and 2007-08.
He had his first crack at GVFL footy with Benalla in 2006, playing in its losing grand final against Seymour.
Vallender, a Nathalia farmer, said his friendship with Pell _ they went to school together _ was a factor in his decision to play for the Bears.
He is now the eighth player from last year's Nathalia premiership team to depart the club.
``It's taken three or four months to make a decision. (Nathalia coach) Nathan Trimby is one of my best mates, so it was definitely one of the hardest decisions I've had to make,'' Vallender said.
O'Sullivan, 20, missed out on playing in Shepparton's under-18 premiership in 2005 due to a broken collarbone.
He missed the first six games of his first senior season in 2006 after again breaking his collarbone during the pre-season, but played a number of impressive games upon return.
The dashing half-back moved to Melbourne in 2007 and has played nine senior and 25 reserve games for Box Hill in the past two seasons.
O'Sullivan said he was looking forward to moving back to Shepparton to be closer to his family and friends.
A second-year apprentice electrician, he is working in Melbourne until the end of this week before transferring to Shepparton.
``It looks like we've picked up a few and with the young players we've got and some key recruits the club is definitely moving in the right direction,'' he said.

I think the swans won't make the finals this year with all their losses, with Tat and Bears being the big improvers
