Word is that Yarra offered Pettifer $10,000 sign on fee plus $2000 a game. Ky cannot match that and have put their offer which is considerably less than this to him. Ky wont budge on their offer and are hoping that he will play due to strong family connections. His mum is assistant coach of the A grade netball, his sisters are returning to play netball there and his future brother in law is also returning to have a kick. Will be interesting to see which way he goes. Hard to believe that a guy who has played at Richmond on a healthy contract and made alot out of his AFL career would be so concerned about chasing $'ss ?

So what your saying is blokes like Mench, Hotton, Robertson and Yze are travelling up to the country for the love of the game. Give me a break. There wouldn't be too many ex AFL players who haven't put there hand out for big dough when returning to local footy. Country and suburban footy is littered with ex afl blokes getting huge money.
I'll stick with what I have said, he will play at Ky.

Ky could match that if withers and o'sullivan dont return, but surely he wouldnt ask for that much to play at his home club, money shouldnt much of an issue as whatever money he earns is deducted from the money richmond have to pay him, so at the end of the day he will end up with the same amount, unless of coarse theres a bit thrown under the table...

The point I make here, which you dont see, is that there is a strong family connection, unlike the examples you put forward, and Ky are hoping that this may influence his thinking.
Since when has Mensch, Hotton and Robertson been returning to "local footy"????, perhaps Yze, but otherwise as you state, just chasing a dollar.
By the way is the reported $50,000 each for Yze and Robertson correct?

The question you posed was "why would he be so concerned with money", my argument is every player who comes strait of AFL gets well paid in local footy, the fact that there is a family connection at Ky is why I think he will play there and take the lesser money. Your kidding yourself if a blokes is not going to want to paid in country footy these days after coming strait league footy. Afterall Ky were more than happy to pay hige money for blokes like Withers and Singh, who are not local.
By the way, all players who leave AFL and play country or suburban footy are returning to local footy, which is where everybody begins, or do you think Mench and co played there first games of footy in the big league???

there are lots of examples of players leaving the AFL and returning to their "local" clubs to play for very little to return something back. Williams at Rochy a case in point. Would therefor query your ascertion "every" player" gets well paid. Not sure what Withers and Singh have to do with my comments? Local footy is just that, LOCAL, Robertson began his career in local footy in Tassy, Mensch in Geelong. To my way of thinking local refers to the proximity to where you live, if travelling 2 to 3 hours to play with a club that you have no connection to other than being payed is returning to local footy, then we are all just one big happy team.

i know they have asked sponsors to put in more money for Robbo. They have also approched a few new sponsors to put in between 10-15keach.
They will get alot more people through the gates this year to see these blokes play. It won't matter if its home or away. so i guess when ever the swans play away. The away team will have a good gate!

Whats funny is they asked swans players to take a pay cut last year.
Big turn around in 6 months!

Bombers add more firepower to arsenal
Gus Underwood
Kyabram has added a 100-goal-a-season forward and a tall ruckman to its ranks for next season.
Goal-kicking forward Heath Barnett is set to rejoin the Bombers, who will attempt to go one better than this year when beaten by Mansfield in their first grand final appearance for 13 years.
The other major signing is dual Redan (Ballarat league) premiership ruckman Brett Dickinson.
Barnett has spent the past three years playing in the Cairns league and kicked more than 100 goals _ the second highest tally ever kicked in this competition _ this year.
He signed on with the club last week after returning to Kyabram for the festive season.
New Kyabram president Tony Hansen was drooling at the prospect of a Kyabram forward line boasting players of the calibre of Barnett, Paul Newman, young gun Nathan Beck and the classy David Newman.
``Heath got motivated to return to the club with Kyabram's efforts this year and is pretty stoked about coming back,'' Hansen said.
``Our attack should certainly test the best defences in the competition.''
Hansen was also ecstatic with the signing of Dickinson, an athletic 193 cm ruckman who will teach at the Kyabram P-12 school next season.
He is originally from Numurkah.
``Brett played in Redan's premiership sides in 2007 and 2008 and is a quality person who, at 23 years of age, is going to fit in really well with the club's young group,'' Hansen said.
The Bombers have also signed up Paul O'Neill a tall, strongly built key defender from Craigieburn and Tongala's Luke Souter, son of former Blues star Mick Souter.
Gutsy small man Ryan Emmett is also returning to play with the Bombers after spending this year overseas.
Hansen said that fly-in Darwin recruits, Morrison medallist Linc Withers and Dave O'Sullivan, were also not completely out of the equation to play with the club again next season.
``I'm heading up there with some other Kyabram officials in late January and we will be talking with them,'' Hansen said.
While there has been some positive recruiting, the Bombers will have to cover losses from this season's runner-up side.
Departures from the Bombers are expected to include former Murray Bushrangers Brad Mangan and Michael Pryde, young gun Liam Ogden and Matt Deledio.

Barnett is back at Bombers where it all started
Gus Underwood
He was always going to return to where it all began, but the teasing question was when.
Well, Heath Barnett has given the answer by declaring he will return to Kyabram for this season.
``Yes this is where it all began; this is where my heart is,'' the man fondly known as ``Barney'' said as he gazed across Kyabram Recreation Reserve last week.
``I'm genuinely excited about coming back here. I just can't wait.''
Barnett left Kyabram in 2006 and played in the Darwin summer competition before making his way to Cairns, where he has spent the past three seasons with the Trinity Beach club.
Apart from one season playing with his brother, Justin, in a premiership winning side under Tony McDonell at Lancaster in 2001, Barnett's junior and senior football careers before moving north had been with the Bombers.
``I must have played nearly 100 senior games with the club, so that is another target,'' he said.
Barnett enjoyed a stellar season in the Cairns competition last year, kicking 125 goals.
It's the second highest tally of goals ever kicked in a season in the competition, just three shy of the record.
``I had a pretty good season and mainly played at full-forward with an occasional run up the ground,'' he said.
Barnett was gutted when his club, Trinity Beach, didn't go all the way.
``We thought we had the side to win the flag and that plus being given the assistant coaching role at the club influenced me to stay on up there for another season,'' he said.
``But I have always wanted to come back to Ky.''
Barnett said his age 29 was also a major influence in his decision to return.
``That was also a very big key to my decision. I want to offer something to the club before it's too late,'' he said.
He doesn't know what Kyabram coach David Williams has in store for him.
``I would prefer to play in the forward line, but I'll will play anywhere he wants me to,'' he said.

Isailovic hits the road
Alex Isailovic is prepared to travel further _ about 220 km further _ in pursuit of his first senior premiership.
Melbourne-based Isailovic has opted against a third straight season at Tatura to return to home club Balranald this year.
Isailovic will travel about 370 km each weekend to play for the Central Murray league reigning premier, instead of the 150 km trip to Tatura.
``One of my good mates there, Lee Anderson, is coaching so I'm going back just for a year,'' Isailovic said.
``It's a massive commitment, but if a premiership does arise out of it, it will be worth it.''
The 25-year-old last played for Balranald in 2005, where it lost the grand final to Swan Hill by 63 points.
Balranald upset top side Kerang by 56 points to win last year's flag.
``I always had intentions of going back there to try and win a premiership,'' Isailovic said.
``My partner and I have just had a baby, so it's getting harder for me to keep travelling.
``I'll definitely be looking (to play football) closer to Melbourne next year.''
Isailovic joined a struggling Tatura from Coburg in 2008 and made an immediate impact in its midfield.
He was a member of the victorious Goulburn Valley Football League interleague side at the division one country championships before needing season-ending surgery on his right shoulder.
The electrician was a key part of the Bulldogs' remarkable resurgence from winless wooden spooners to first semi-finalists this year.
Isailovic said it was hard to leave Tatura and didn't rule out a future return to the Goulburn Valley.
Isailovic is Tatura's first departure and no players have joined the club.
``We're looking to recruit one or two, but to be frank, we're nowhere near in the market for the players we're looking at,'' Bulldogs president Denis Flett said.
``We're being disciplined and not going to be irresponsible.''

Bear cupboard concern
Shepparton held a meeting on Monday night to discuss concerns about the club's growing list of player departures and lack of senior depth.
Bears coach Richard Warburton organised the meeting with the club's executive committee minus president Pat Mei, who is away on holidays.
Melbourne-based players Ed Clarke, Matt Pell and Marc Lord also travelled to attend the discussion.
Shepparton has already lost Jason Wells to retirement, six players to minor league clubs _ five to Dookie _ and question marks hang over up to 10 more from last year's senior list.
``Our training numbers pre-Christmas were down, which is to be a little bit expected, but there's a few concerns about our depth,'' Warburton said.
``Recruiting is an on-going process and we'll make sure we do that, but like any club we have a budget to work to.
``We won't be over-extending ourselves recruitment wise.''
The Bears have currently lured two former players, Sean Harrap and Jarrod Maskell, back to the club.
In contrast, Deakin Reserve co-tenants Shepparton United and cross-town rivals the Swans are setting the recruiting pace along with Echuca.
``We're still talking to a few guys and we're hoping to have an injection of recruits,'' Warburton said.
``I have faith in the list we've got. I believe there's a few under-18s who are going to step up to the mark.''
Warburton is concerned with minor league clubs targeting younger players from major competitions.
``It's just a thing that's popped its head up in the last five years. Younger guys can get money playing in these minor leagues,'' Warburton said.
``It's hard to make a good bob these days, so plenty of young guys will go out to these minor leagues because they can earn a bit of money.
``I'm a bit old school and believe young guys should try and develop to play the best football they can.''

Bizarre times at Bears
Shepparton has avoided a potential player and coach walkout after a tumultuous past week involving senior leader Richard Warburton.
Warburton sensationally resigned after being told he didn't have the support from his players at a meeting with club executives on Sunday.
Warburton was told a number of players would leave the club if he coached this year.
The news quickly spread to Shepparton's players, who in turn contacted Warburton to tell him he had their backing.
After the players' show of support, Warburton contacted club president Pat Mei to withdraw his resignation and was soon reinstated as coach.
``It's the most bizarre thing that's ever happened to me in all my involvement in football,'' Warburton said.
A meeting was held on Monday night between Warburton, the rest of the club's coaches and the executive committee, minus Mei, who is away on holidays.
``The other coaches got wind of it and they were involved in those phonecalls (on Sunday) because they didn't have a clue what was going on,'' Warburton said.
``They all wanted to leave because they hadn't been informed and weren't happy about that, so that's why the meeting was arranged for Monday night.
``I just think the situation was handled the wrong way because of a lack of communication between the right people.''
Warburton believes a number of players would also have left the club had he not opted against resigning.
``The phonecalls I had on Sunday, the general consensus was a lot of those guys would've been reluctant to play,'' Warburton said.
``They had signed on because they were happy with the coaching group and wanted to be a part of it.
``It could have been disastrous.''
Bears vice-president Barry Hobbs maintains the original decision to ask for Warburton's resignation was for the right intentions.
``There was certainly no hidden agenda, it was done in the best interests of the football club,'' Hobbs said.
``Our original feelings were that some players who had already left the club might come back if Richard wasn't coaching.
``We made a decision we thought would help the football club, but it turned out it wasn't the right decision.''
Warburton and Hobbs addressed the playing group before training on Wednesday night to clarify the situation.
``There had been a few rumours going around about what had gone on,'' Warburton said.
``It was best to let it all out and we're going to move on now and just get on with business and get ready for round one.''
Warburton said he'd been humbled by his players' support.
``When they heard about it they were just straight on the blower (telephone) wanting to know what was going on,'' Warburton said.
``I've still got an ambition to do what I'm doing because otherwise I could've just walked away after what happened.''
Warburton holds no grudge against the committee.
``I've been told we have the full support of the committee in our roles even after what's happened,'' Warburton said.
``Footy clubs are pretty dynamic and sometimes, with the best intentions, the wrong thing might be done. We need to move forward.''

WARBURTON'S TESTING TIMES
Saturday morning _ Bears president Pat Mei contacts Warburton, holidaying at Lake Eildon, and asks to meet with him. Warburton assumes the meeting will be about list management and recruiting.
Sunday morning _ Warburton meets with two executive committeemen. Warburton is asked to resign, and obliges, after being told he doesn't have the support of his players.
Sunday afternoon _ Warburton receives numerous text messages and phone calls from players who heard about his resignation. Warburton establishes he in fact has the backing from his players and contacts Mei to withdraw his resignation. He is reinstated as coach shortly after.
Monday night _ A meeting is held between Warburton, the rest of the club's coaches and the executive committee, minus Mei. The other coaches express disappointment at not being informed about Warburton's situation.
Wednesday night _ Warburton and vice-president Barry Hobbs address the playing group before training to clarify the situation.

yeah, they are in all sorts. Warby says it himself, he is old school. even after all this they are going to struggle to make an impact on field. Tough year ahead for the bears!

defenitly hard times ahead and with only 2 recruits who where shepp thirds a few years ago.....so basiclly they havent recruited anybody.......and havent heard of anyone that they will recruit

Looks like it's the Bad News Bears this year. At least they are back in the true Shepp jumpers.

Will this mass exodus mean that Terrence 'The Barge' Tuohey will have to play in the 1s?

He is 37 going on 38 this year but may have to.
Who is the oldest senior( not reserves) player running around in the GV at present? Dirty Williams played until 38-39 i reckon and Tank was probably 37. Who else?

What about the guy who I think wore #6 at Euroa, Watson? Played a lot of good footy for a bloody long time :thumbsu: Reckon big Jono Solomon mighta been late 30's when he chalked up 200 GV games a season or two ago after his return to the Den?

What a load of crap that first paragraph is. Not happening so your source/s are completely off the mark. Clubs cannot afford to pay that amount of coin to players let alone two of them. What sponsors have $10-15k spare??? Last year we had the Global Credit Squeeze and sponsorship money is getting harder to raise.

who says you are correct?

Well you lost Freer. You have picked a few up from QLD but the word on one of those is he played 2's in the QAFL and was no star. The young Davies? from nathalia can play and Gemill will be very handy but is 33. Forys is also getting on as well but will no doubt take a good defender. United are coming from a long way back. At this stage a finals appearance is on the cards but how do you fit Mansfield,Ky,Mooroopna,Tatura,Seymour,Echuca,Rochester Swans and United into 6 spots???
easy, leave echuca out till they win some games.
