Not really... Many are desperate for a proper football coach.
Bucks has been head coach since 2012, He's ran his race and been okay but Clarkson is 10x the coach Buckley is.

We moved on T.Shaw for Mick and I'd hope we do the same on bucks for clarko
You are speaking for yourself of course others have agendas.

But you did say something: 'The talk was obviously wrong.'
That was in reply to Apex saying there has been talk Wright would not come to Collingwood whilst Buckley is coach. Clearly that “talk” was wrong, as evidenced by Wright’s appointment as Football Manager.
Unless of course Buckley is about to be sacked.

Too many ‘invented rumours’ about our club have turned out to be true for me to instantly dismiss them, unless they’re completely improbable. If you want to dismiss them straight off the bat then that’s your prerogative.

He has joined and will be working with Maguire and Buckley for at least 2021. So hes either changed his mind or the rumours are false.

The talk that Wright would never work for Collingwood while Buckley was there WAS obviously wrong.

I would not Complain IF that Happened

That is what I had in mind in my reply. Unlikely, but would explain why Wright took the job IF the rumour was true.

I’d say he took the job because he’s ready for a new challenge and loves his old club. I doubt he has any problem with Buckley.

Operationally I’m neither here nor there over Wright’s appointment. It’s a win over the Maxwell/ Wagner combo, but Hawthorn’s football department hasn’t exactly been firing on all cylinders for the better part of 5 years.

Where I think we’ll see a significant improvement is fan engagement with the football department. Walsh would probably have preferred having teeth pulled over being honest with us whereas Wright has always been forthcoming in a Hine sort of way. Given that was our biggest failure during the 2020 off-season this is a step forward.

That all said if he can eke out an improvement in our rehab and coaching programs (ball movement specifically) then I’ll very quickly be as glowing as the majority on here. With that it’s a collaborative effort so any improvements will be a shared responsibility, but a new perspective on things can bring about positive change.

All of the football dept effectively report into him. All the coaches, list management, fitness, medical, performance and recruiting teams. So he assesses Bucks performance, tenure and strategies... which he should also help Set. Along with whether Ned is right for job, and oversee all of his ongoing trade, list balance and player contract approvals and strategies. Plus the player fitness, health, and management plans and practices. Big job - yes, and the perfect person for it I reckon.
For years I - and I’m sure others - have sat back in frustration as we brought in muppets like Gubby, who delivered players like Wells on long term contracts, and Walsh - who no doubt has his qualities, but obv has no idea how to supervise a TPP spreadsheet, or list balance decisions.
Meanwhile over at Hawthron, one of our very own had been making excellent decisions for a long time, to help build the playing list to deliver multiple flags.
Shaun Burgoyne stands out as even at the time... how did they manage to pinch him so cheaply, and why didn’t we seize the opportunity. He was always class, and a bargain. Likewise Tom Mitchell, and O’Meara, and Henderson, and burton.... etc. just a v smart operator, with loads of experience now, and you’d expect / hope football boss is the perfect role for him, that he’s been ready for for along time now

It’s a good get but I thought he’d only just assumed the mantle at the Hawks after previously focusing on recruiting. He was well respected apparently in the recruiting space, hopefully his tenure as footy manager is equally well regarded.

Eddie stop being a Cheap Skate with the Footy Department

How many clubs have exceeded the FD tax threshold since it was introduced?

None AFAIK, but for mine that doesn’t mean it isn’t the right play. Better question for mine is how it’s relevant to Ed? It’s a CEO’s call to make and take to the board for approval. The only answer I have is that he’s been the face of it since he made public comment on it.

It's not wrong because now we have Wright who is clearly not wrong and because this is right, the other stuff was wrong - two wrongs don't make a Wright - alright?

Because he has been at War with the AFL over it

Seems a bit of conjecture about the spelling of his name

Good off field signing

One of my favourite players as a kid

Forgot he retired as a player for a few years due to illness and came back

Time will tell if it’s a great appointment or just a good one.
As for the hawks, it’s just not clarko, but the whole of the club has to be run well. Still not convinced hawks success was all Clarkson doing.
More convinced fagan had more to do with it than people realise

I follow the Lions fairly closely, as a former SEQ resident. Fagan is a beauty. His side plays great attacking footy and they genuinely love their coach. It's hard to quantify it, but there's no doubt he played a role in Hawthorn's success.

Didn't happen, pablo! Maybe you looked up Grahame Wright's record instead of this one!: AFL Tables - Graham Wright - Stats - Statistics

He played every season with us between 1988-1998 with never less than 13 games any year.

I am very happy about this news, that's for sure!
