I think the best part still to me about it all is Fagan getting the flag and proving the talking heads wrong and making them look like idiots.

Do you think Geelong should punt Chris Scott so they can chase Fagan?

Michael Marshall has the SEN, 3AW, ABC and K-ROCK (Geelong) radio calls on his Youtube channel

Includes pre match and post match - easy to sync to the replay on the AFL website

Love the 3AW call but props to the K-Rock boys for their unabashed favouritism for their South Barwon boy in Forty!!!!!!!
Lots of fun and satisfaction listening to all these broadcasts. Kane Cornes' love affair with Lachie - and his general comments - is great. Jimmy Bartel is also pretty spot on.

But Malthouse - he really has a visceral dislike of all things Lions. Esp Joe / Cam / Zac .. the usual suspects. Move on Mick ..

Yeah Kane and Gerald Healy picked up VERY early that we were "on" and the Swans were in strife. Even when we were down 13-2.

Which call is Malthouse on?

Not gonna lie, every day I scroll through draft board and for an absentminded moment start thinking how do we need to improve ourselves to take that next.. hang on, we are the Premiers ! :D and I laugh even more knowing Levi is on his way.

"Life's good !!"

Why this flag is so special is the stories and how you can’t even confidently rank them.

Fagan being under the pump, media wanting his scalp. Never seemingly lost the players.Brought us from wooden spooners to premiers.

Berry and his 2023 scars, plays a massive role in getting us there 12 months later.

Ashcroft knee to Norm.

O’s Prelim heroics. Pre/post gf humility.

Joe knowing it’s his last year and kicking the 2 most clutch goals back to back in SF possibly in football history.

Zorko having an AA year at 47 and getting one when I reckon he thought it may have gotten away.

Cannot rank them personally.

And then the side stories are not too bad either.

Fagan’s redemption- from stood down, to oldest runner up, to oldest premiership coach in 24 months.

Club’s Redemption, runner up to premiers

Greatest back to back duo of comebacks in finals history.

Won it from 5th

MCG hoodoo door slams shut.

Zorko becomes the oldest to be first time premiership player

Two time Brownlow medallist gets his premiership.

Darcy Fort gets his chance.

Matthews presents the cup

Stuart Dew

Daniher shuts up the critics, kicks the final goal of the premiership win and sails off into the sunset as a big game great.

What made it special for me is that in my heart I never really thought we could do it right up till the last 2 minutes of the Prelim.

Once we were in against the Swans it was a reasonably stress free week especially when you saw any of our players on the track or interviewed there was just this aura of calmness that had swept over the club .

From 10 minutes in to the first quarter you could see we had their measure and the first half was like dreaming wide awake.

It was just meant to be ,all the sweat and the heartache wiped away.

Those I was happiest for were Fagan, Zorko , Neale , Ah Chee, Berry, McClug , Lester ,Andrews and Daniher. All for separate reasons. Well it may as well be all of them then.

Someone who hasn't gotten much of a mention is Hipwood. He ,like Neale , played the last part of the season under a lot of duress ,he's copped a lot of criticism over the years in the media ,and he stood up for us in trying circumstances when we needed him. So for him that GF was a big win.

Interesting sidenote it's no secret that Lachie and Cripps are really good friends.

Crippa told everyone within earshot that Lachie was totally switched on for this GF and there was no way he was losing it having lost his previous 2.

He played like it too. Champs are just able to do things that are way above and beyond. It was our lucky day when we were able to convince him to move his life to Qld.

Scariest part for me…I think we have another level in us just quietly.
I get excited thinking about and writing this.

Hipwood and Payne were a fair way off full fitness. I reckon Eric is only going to keep improving for another 3 or 4 years. Against the Bulldogs at Docklands when he kicked 6 goals he put it all together and was just about unstoppable.

Coleman and McCarthy hopefully make full recoveries and get back to their best.
The added confidence from this year, players working even harder to make / hold a spot in the team next year, the younger guys continuing to mature and learn.

Across the next few years we'll see McCluggage, Berry, Bailey, Dunkley, and Rayner play their career best footy.

Joe will be missed of course, but the brains trust will figure out how to win without him.
Go Lions!

(Oh...and of course L&W Ashcroft 😂)

As part of my re-watching of the finals series, just did the GWS game. One thing that stood out (and know will stand out in the following games) is the work ethic of Eric Hipwood. The guy was playing through OP which cut off his biggest assets yet competed and put in second efforts. It's a true testament to his drive to help the team. He gets so much shit from fans, but we are extremely lucky to have him.

If he gets a clean bill of health both physically and mentally next year, I think we'll see the best of Hippy.

Agree.
If anything, Lions slightly underperformed until September, because it's a beautifully talented list.
Watching them get their premiership medals, I thought there's not one bottom 6 player.
Adding the next Ashcroft, and Coleman and Linc- how deep is this list.
Not saying you'll do the 3-peat again, but if there's one team I would love to see do that again, it's Brisbane.
And right now, there is no other team in the comp that can do it, by definition.
Walking out of the G on Prelim Final day, I was strangely proud of my team, and rapt for Brisbane to be able to make history again.

As you should. That game in reality should have been the GF. It was one of the best games I think any of us have ever witnessed, either side’s supporters. It had everything and absolutely no shame whatsoever going down in that. It was actually kind of sad there had to be a loser.

I enjoyed this video, it shows some additional footage from the day which is always welcome. But a couple of observations:

1. Want to know who won the medal before the presentation? Just ask Steve Johnson! I think the players were the last people on the ground to know Will had won it.

2. It's good to get an interview with one of the medal voters, but it's a bit odd to interview the only one who didn't think Will was best on ground! Of course he's the only AFL.com.au representative on the panel, so it makes sense, but still...

AhChee played OR this year.

Played all this year?

He has traditionally started in the twos, and been called up when someone else is injured. And then we are all, how good is cal? Like we had forgotten.

I am sure the discussions re team in Round one there will be people saying Cal is the logical out.

His season this year says to me he is one of the first names on the team sheet.
