Fairly terrible game but definitely some exciting points.

Impressed by Palmer, McDonald and Cornes, all much better than expected.

Hampton very clean below his knees or in traffic and exciting to watch.

Mohr an excellent pickup, the Glass comparison wasn't a bad one. Ugly but effective kick, clever body work, strong mark and looks like he will be a very very good player one on one.

From the draftees, Eliot won a lot of the ball but it was Coniglio that impressed me the most. Ferocious tackler, strong beyond his age and just manages to either brute force or finesse his way through traffic. Does some really clever things like little toe pokes or tap ons to always try to keep the ball moving forward and maybe to his advantage or that of a team mates.

Very well played by GWS with such a long injury list, and for the Swans basically a home game, and a predicted finalist.

Lot to like tonight.

Hang on, I turned the TV off as soon as it finished... Goodes won a medal?? For what exactly?

Josh Kennedy won it. Goodes went to go up, but then went back. As Shotties said though, I think he thought they were giving the cup for the game, so as captain, went to go up.

It was for best on ground. Brett Kirk medal.

Well done to Giants. Fiercely competitive I think. Even when the boys were seizing up. Seem better drilled than the Suns did this time last year. Bit bigger too.

Curious as to what Swans fan thought of that. Seemed to miss some easy shots on goal. Some of the commentators are saying that Sydney should be pushing for spots 3-6 this year, but it certainly didn't look like a 3-6 team out there tonight.

Wet weather and cobwebs obviously play a part, so they're probably willing to let some of those clangers go. Be keen to see how those improve as the year goes on.

That kid is going to be a gun - Obviously I had heard it before and his #2 pick suggests that, but I have never been one to bother to check out draft pick highlights so hadn't really seen anything of him before. Will be a class above soon enough -

That Folau tackle and pick up was awesome. Resulted in a rare GWS goal. I really hope Izzy does well.

GWS were impressive. Toby Greene is a little ball magnet.

What an awful game to watch. Thank christ its out of the way and we can get the good stuff going next week.
Get over yourself and embrace the game. Brilliant display by a very young team tonight who will prove a lot of doubters wrong this year. Sydney weren't that great I must admit, that wasn't even a top 8 team out there tonight. Skills were awful.

Chad Cornes was very good tonight. GWS look like a pretty tight nit team, more so than gold coast, alot to like about the giants

Get over yourself if someone doesn't agree with your opinion.

Very ugly game to watch, no doubt about it. Few glimpses from the kids were nice and GWS were okay in patches but the quality of the game was dismal as a stand alone game for the opening of the season. I dunno about anyone else but I struggled to sit and watch it all the way through.

No more as dismal as other opening games have been in recent years.

Bzzt wrong.

Last year was an entertaining match right the way through and Richmond were in front at 3 quarter time. 20 point loss.

But yes a lot of people have complained about the opening match in recent years yet this one is being appluaded. Go figure.

English

As other, which means as there have been other games as bad, or worse... and all other, as all games have been as bad.... There is a difference Barnzy. Did not use all other.. .though it has been most of the last few has it not.

And a lot of the games you had served up were truly shit too. Just not last year.

The way some people are going on about this game it's like they were expecting to watch the grand final. What kind of quality were you expecting from a game containing a new team full of 18 year olds? The whole thing was for publicity and to get the attention of people throughout NSW.

4 things pissed me off tonight, and will be pissing me off in future re the Giants and the rivalry.

1. the regular reference to 'GWS'. Why not call them Sydney Giants or Western Sydney Giants and get rid of this ridiculous abbreviation which is going to blight this sport in every conversation regarding this team.
2. the Giants orange. Seriously, couldnt they have found a better colour which can really distinguish them from the Swans red?
3. Swans fans near me embracing the Giants as their 2nd team, with a bloke even calling up radio after the game stating words to that effect. Great rivalry this is going to be if that continues.

Game was just blah tonight. I wanted ruthlessness from the Swans. The giants will be giving it back in spades in 4 or 5 seasons time. Nothing about this match was a rivalry. On the scale of a free love festival and face off between enemies, the event tonight was very much at the end of the former.

isnt this AFL comp supposed to be the highest tier competition of the sport in the entire world? more like a development nursery.
