using bias like every1 else i'd say gavin wanganeen but in reality for my time (95-10) i'd say it'd be between Goodes and Mcleod.

Thw whole poll is indicative of the general BF age group.

No sane person that saw Barry Cable play would have any player on that list ahead of him, with the exception of Polly Farmer.

I have seen them all play with the exception of Farmer and Cable was better than anyone else on that list. That's not bias either, that's a fact.

Excuse me, sane comments like this on Bigfooty are not required !!!.

I was lucky enough to see a season or two of Polly, and more of Cable. They were class personified, playing in the guts all the time.

Please don't ever mention Cable and Jimmy Krakoeur in the same breath as to their footy ability. Cable did it all day, Jimmy did it in flashes.

Im suprised nobody has mentioned Michael O'Laughlin on the list. McLeod was the best ive seen followed by Micky O. To tell you the truth theres been too many to actually name a best. Brilliant players the lot of them.

We can't really blame the punters out there because they're too young to know any better. It's just the way it is.

Cable had 38 disposals on the great Leigh Matthews in a preliminary final!!!!!! It's a complete joke that Michael Long is mentioned in the same sentence as Cable, much less have more votes in this poll.

Agree with that. Jimmy was a good player, but Cable was a class above that level.

I'd rate that list as follows.

Farmer (can't rate)

Cable
Rioli
Matera
Winmar
Goodes
McLeod
Krakeour
Wanganeen
O'Loughlin
Long
Jackson
Johnson

People might think I have Goodes and McLeod a little low on the list, but Goodes has basically been utilised as an offensive player throughout his career and McLeod has played the majority of his career in the easiest position in modern football..

macca also played most of his career with one ****ed knee, easiest position pfffttt, two norm smiths playing through midfield

reason being why he was not in the group is because he never played at the elite level

Maybe The Great Man (that would be Stephen Michael for the heathens out there) didn't play in the VFL, but the standard of the WAFL was much better then that is is now, AND he was All-Australian captain in 1983, so he must have had something that "those in the know" knew, even if he chose not to leave WA to play footy.

If he's not sitting at the same table as Polly, Goodes, Cable, Matera and McLeod we've got to get a bigger table.

he was great when he was on song, but unfortunately, shoddy knees seen him spend more than half his career at full forward. i have no doubt he had the talent to be able to be mentioned in same breath as mcleod and goodes, had he been able to play his career across the half forward flank.

A serious question, did Cable come over to the VFL as the aboriginal rover Barry Cable? He was blond haired & white skinned from the footage i've seen of him so when I found out he was aboriginal it was a surprise.

Polly Farmer doesn't look as if he just strolled out of Arnhem Land either.

"Aboriginality" was never really spoken about then.

People were aware, but it just wasn't the issue it is now.

These were different political times.
