Greatest Finals Performer in the last 15 years

You're just concentrating on the rovers and flankers.
In terms of KPP's Riewoldt has been supeb the last cpl of yrs...the only game i can remember he didnt either dominate or play very well was the 09 grannie...and he was still well into the top half of players depsite being well held...and a few of those games he was massive. One of those blokes that only gets huge press if he's totally and absolutely dominant. Common for KPP's..all the world loves a hard working rover.

ME under 9's east sandringham zebras 1992

goddard and ablett good too -- best in last 15 years

BUT the best is kevin bartlett (not biased, fact) BEST EVER

Because we all got to see him play - he dominated September - and for a while was one of the few midfielders Sydney couldn't shut down.

We all got to see him play. If only supporters whose team was playing on the day watched the game BigFooty wouldn't exist. On top of that Sydney supporters would be going gaga for Judd and supporters wouldn't put forward members outside their team. Everyone saw him play, what's strange that only people who supported Judd in finals (WCE supporters) have mentioned his name. No other supporter have recognised him. Also interesting that support for Macca and Hayes has come from people who are not tied with either club.

The comment about Sydney being unable to shut him down is completely true, but he was standing alongside similarly skilled players who were tagged in preference. Also the Sydney supporters don't seem to support his position at the top. Could be that nobody really likes Judd, but I think seeing as not a single person outside WCE has mentioned him it's more likely that he just isn't the greatest finals performer in the last 15 years.

For me it's either Hayes or Macca. I'm biased so I vote for Macca.

Wayne Carey anyone? Dominated a whole finals series one year.

Not great, but lifted for finals: Tony Evans. Not a great player but always played well in finals.

Finals, nice. Grandfinals are where players make their name.

Hayes, good player to be honest I didn't notice him from where I sat at the game, Goddard stands out more, that's not to say Hayes didn't play well.

Individual performances in Grannies, the ones that stand out that I've seen are Darren Jarman for the Crows, forget what year, Dermott Brereton and Gary Ablett Snr in '89.

16 years ago, as apposed to the OP's 15.

Carey's 94' finals series is probably just about the best ever, and it didn't include a grand final.

Judd, followed by the rest.

Lenny Hayes, Andrew McLeod, Gary Ablett in recent years. Adam Goodes always seemed to play well against us in finals, watching him go head to head with Judd was excellent.

My rose colour glasses may be on here, and no doubt Judd has been great...

But you would rate 1 Normie and 1 flag ahead of back to back Normies and back to back flags?

Also chuck 7 goals in a PF into that and a BOG in a pre season GF ( not as important as any normal finals performance, but still was better than 43 others that night)

Just wondering what the basis is for that, if you don't mind expanding?

Judd won a Norm Smith in a losing side, nothing more he could do to get two flags.

If we're talking finals in general rather than just Grand Finals, Judd has McLeod covered. He was consistently brilliant in September, and still is.

From his 2004 Brownlow year until this season, he's played in 11 finals, and I would say he's been in the best handful on the ground in every one bar 2007 when he was injured. That ability to improve even further in big games is what really made him a champion when he was with us.

Cool, thanks for expanding

I saw Judd win the Normie in 05 and was oh so close to back to back flags in those 2 years.

Where would you rate his 06 GF performance in regards to the bests for that day?

I think you may be right that Judd has Macca covered. But not by much. Back to back Normies are super rare, and chuck in a 7 goal PF in 98 too. But i do remember a couple of quiet Macca finals ( i was young when he first started)

I am forever grateful of the gift that Freo gave us in Macca and that he could turn it on when it counted with his performances

In the top 5. Rankings after the game had him 5th, which I think was about right, he was the leading possession getter on the ground. Had some trouble with his shoulder that slowed him down for the last quarter.

Embley, Cox, Kirk, Kerr and Judd were probably the top 5.

Bit too much post-2005 midfielder love here.

Perhaps not number one but someone needed to mention him for all the young-uns who seemingly missed the early 2000's. A. Lynch was the best finals player in Brisbane's 5 or so finals series in a row early from '99 to '04. Something like 5th or 6th on all time goals kicked (65) in finals or something and I don't think any of the guys above him played in the last 15 or so years (or at least not at their peak).

I think everyone just tends to remember his 04 grand final unfortunately.

Chris Judd - I can't remember the last time he played a poor final.

Edit: Actually I can - 2007 when he couldn't walk

Actually I remeber that night vividly and Worsfold planted him at FF on one leg. He was still in your best 6 or 7 players and took the best defender.

The OP named most of the best. Judd, McCleod, Hird are the standouts for me. I think by the end of his career Goddard will be up there. Lloyd should also be considered.

Buddy Franklin plays great in finals as well when he is fit. Games against Adelaide and Dogs were sensational.
