That Roach photo is higher on my list of all time great AFL photos than even jesaulenko's one, but clearly i am biased.

Here's another version of it. Right over Dippas head :D

Having met Dippa a few times, knowing the scale of things and how high up Roach was, it still gives me goosebumps. To be blunt, it was one mega-f**king massive leap.

I thought that was Terry Moore..

Love this one - celebrating THAT goal in the QF against the Catters.

The first 3 quarters were incredibly tense in a largely low scoring game. You could just feel the uneasiness in the largely Tiger crowd. We'd been in winning positions against Carlton and North only to fall short in the end. Not only was our finals history weighing heavily, but the narrow losses, the regular sense of being let down time and time again. Even when we started to kick a few goals clear, I think most of us had a tiny voice telling us to prepare for the worst. Geelong had scored 2 late goals just before HT and given our record against them, it definitely put a spike of fresh tension into the game.

That whole last quarter was like us hammering on glass. Each goal that extended our lead was like ecstasy stripping away layers of heartbreak and disappointment and replacing it with pure joy and palpable relief. And when Cotchin spun through the pack and slammed the ball through the driving rain between the big sticks, it was as if the glass finally broke. Seeing how much it meant to him, seeing him get mobbed by his teammates, hearing the roar of the Tiger army knowing the result was sealed. Simply magical stuff.

If I had to describe in one word it would be vindication. Seeing a bloke who's been battered from pillar to post by so many. Being ridiculed as supposedly one of the worst captains in the league or accused of being one of the worst Brownlow medalists in the history of the game; for him to answer his critics and banish his personal demons with such a monumental game and capping it off with the goal of the night was fantastic. Really can't put it into words that do it enough justice.

Terrific write up...:thumbsu:
I maintain we have not played better than this game against the cats...not even the GF win (as good as it was!) matches it for 4 quarters of power footy!
As a spectacle better than the GF...

Magnificent description. I remember being incredibly tense all night that night, and as you say the last quarter released all that’s tension in a simply marvellous 30min. I’m not sure anyone else had the same experience as me, but after we’d kicked two or three that quarter, I felt like it was just this big 20min wait for the siren. I felt comfortable, and just wanted that siren for the confirmation we’d won a final.

Perfectly summed up. Pretty much exactly how I felt. Was easily the most nervous I was of all the finals for all the reasons you mentioned. It required many extra IPA's than usual to get me through this game !!
