Test Green out for the Summer

The mail I have is that he has a serious stress fracture in his back and is unlikely to play at all this summer and may be looking at surgery

Ridiculous how much short pitch bowling the bloke has been doing.

I thought the story was he won’t bowl but he can bat. So that’s a significant change.

Really good point. For a young player with a history of back issues so what do they do…make him do the thing that is hardest on the body….id give up bowling or take a lead out of Shane Watsons book when he finally realised being an out and out fast bowler was no good for him

I feel like he gets lumped with it because the main quicks don’t want to do it. Shades of making the young guy in the team get under the lid.

Consequence of being a tall bloke still growing whilst playing against men.

If you're 5'5", you're going to be able to play test cricket as a teenager; you're going to have grown as much as you're gonna, your spine and bones aren't as weak when you're performing at the top level. In AFL circles, the phrase "talls take longer" comes courtesy of the soft tissue lower back, hamstring and spine issues that occur when you take a 17-21 year old still growing bloke and plonk him into an elite, adult competition. You've not finished growing, your coaches are pushing you to perform as an adult - for those saying something along the lines of the senior bowlers 'forcing' him to bowl short, it is hardly as though the rest of the front line test attack don't also get attacked for bowling spells of bumpers at the tail - and your bones are simply not as strong as those around you.

Pat Cummins had similar issues. Mitch Starc had similar issues. The King twins are having similar issues. Patrick Cripps had similar issues. Tom De Koning had similar issues. Harry and Ben McKay have had similar issues. Tom Boyd had similar issues.

Fact of the matter is, the problem is professional sports expecting too much from still growing bodies based on something as ****ing ridiculous as years lived.

Putting it on the rest of the bowling attack is ****ing dumb.

Obviously a lot of water to go under the bridge until the 1st test, but if he's out what do they do with the lineup?

Put Smith back to 4 and bring in Harris,Bancroft or Renshaw (my preference)
Keep Smith at the top, and play either McSweeney, Handscomb, Webster or Hardie

They will want another all rounder. Marsh doesn’t bowl enough to justify not having one.

Tbh I am still not sold on any of the openers. Maybe this new bloke from nsw comes straight in pup Clarke style.

Smith will go to four mitch is an all rounder will have to bowl a specialist opener is needed

Bangers Harris Renshaw in the mix

But........On a fast bouncier Perth pitch where you need to leave the ball on length.......well there is a sleeper and he has just scored a hundred when the team was 2 for none after two balls and scored a hundred in the shield final last year ...that sleeper is Whiteman

But again these next three shield games are going to be huge

Yep Whiteman should be in that mix as well

any love for hardie, webster or maxwell (would be a stretch for the india series) or even neser as green's replacement ?
i'm guessing bumrah, ashwin and jadeja would be licking their lips if that's the case.
could be a view for the upcoming sri lanka tour though.

not sure i can trust marsh's bowling , in saying that head and marnus can bowl a few overs in need and we probably should just select a specialist opener.

Maybe another all rounder for the back end of the series Melbourne and Sydney

Mitch can bowl 5 overs an innings for the first 3 tests

Smith to four replaces green and you go for a specialist opener …less change for the team head stays at 5 Mitch 6
