Apparently he contract was back ended, can only assume the GC picked up all his contract as well.

Nah, we are clearing salary cap space for a crack at somebody, no idea who as Freo is being quite tight-lipped about their movements these days. Dylan Roberton is likely to be either traded away for a pick upgrade, or delisted so he can walk home to Victoria.
Given that we reportedly offered ~$1M to Cloke, and Broughton was likely on about what D.Pearce will be on, I'd say we are prepping for a massive sales pitch to Tippett.

Bizarre, there wasn't any talk of us trying to get him. He would have been a perfect fit.
My only explanation is clubs like Freo and Ess are trying to free up space, in order to have a crack at any big fish that come around next year.

I don't really mind it to be honest. Like people have been saying, you don't trade away a best 22 player for a second round draft pick. Broughton clearly wasn't best 22 anymore (unless you count DreamTeam). Ross obviously rates Spurr as the better defensive player, and Forster will end up beating them all out for that spot in the back half anyway.
I wish all the best to Broughton, but he wont be the difference between us winning and losing.

Has Rossy done another Luke Ball here? This is a guy who was highly regarded at the club only 2 years ago. He was a shut down back pocket with ambitions of moving into the middle. Always a reliable player and big ball winner.

GC definitely winners here. Perhaps there are other elements in play such as salary cap issues or making space for a play on another player. Either way, it is a good score for the Suns and I think a bit of a shame for the Dockers as Broughton has been a handy player for them for some time.
