Greg Inglis is seriously considering switch

Storm fan here. If we can't keep him, I want him to defect. If talented athletes is what the AFL are searching for, Inglis is the best of the lot at the NRL. Fast, tall, strong, and can kick. What more do you want?

I think if the storm cant find the money for him then I think he is a very good chance to swap over to AFL as he may not want to play against the storm and might not want to make a move out of melb.

This is bullshit, was watching NRL footy show last and he said he hasnt thought about it

Until we know the total fallout from the Storm Salary Cap fiasco I wouldn't discount it.

I know for a fact that Izzy Folau did not enjoy the Broncos as much as he enjoyed the Storm environment. This was one of the reasons they looked around for an alternative.

I would not be surprised if GI chose the same path if he is also forced out of the Storm due to Salary Cap issues.

i am really hoping that the afl put up the cash and give north melbourne inglis.

north melbourne really need marque player and he could be it.

The league would be better for it.

Hunt, Folau, Inglis, people discussing Slater. Talk about decimating the Queensland Origin team :(

You want to hurt the NRL, go after one of their Sydney boys ... Hayne the obvious one.

And hey, when Locky retires the Blues may finally win one.

AFL is NSWs friend, not it's enemy.

If he moves to a Melbourne club then why would the AFL pay him anything? Is he going to be 'growing the game' here? If footy gets any bigger in this town then we might as well replace the state govt with the AFL!

I can't see it happening, can you imagine the uproar if the AFL paid him to go to Essendon for example? And if the AFL aren't chipping in then which club is going to match his NRL salary before he's played a game? His defection would be totally different to the others, it would have to be driven by him and his management and he'd have to sacrifice more than Hunt & Izzy. He'd be a great player though, so hard to tackle - that fend!

If he's going to switch it would be at the end of this year. Otherwise he starts getting a bit old. I believe none of his match payments would count under the cap. This is due to the rule where you can recruit any player who hasn't played any form of AFL in the last 3 years.

The fact he can kick makes him more attractive than either Folau or Hunt. Essendon have had discussions with him, but I don't think he'll switch. If he does, I guess Essendon would be in the box seat.

i have said it all a long. hayne would have been the best fit for gws, for both marketing and playing ability

i agree that he won't switch at this point of the season because of origin. that's what hunt did last year

Anything would happen in the off-season. A lot is dependant on the Storm fallout.

The Storm have a lot of maneuvering to do once the season's over, that's when the Inglis watch will heat up. Perhaps the "Inglis stakes".

but the thing is union could offer him the same money and he could take that as well. not just in france, there is big money in japan and eddie jones would knocking down his door at the snap of the fingers to get this bloke....

The reason why Greg would prefer the AFL over rugby in Japan would be the lure of staying in Melbourne, plus he has become rather a fan of the code since moving here as a teen.

It would be less of a money thing compared to Folau and Hunt. There is a much more geniune appreciation of the game, plus the desire to stay in Melbourne. Greg is seemingly quite prepared to switch codes if it means staying in Melbourne.

Hunt and Folau could have also made big money overseas. Perhaps not as much as what GWS and GC are paying, but if you're earning hundreds of thousands a year, does another $100,000 sway you that much? Will he embrace the challenge of a code switch, or remain loyal to league?

I would love him at the Bombers. He is one NRL star that has a serious shot at becoming a seriously good AFL footballer.

i wouldn't be surprised if he stays in the nrl... but i thought izzy would go to union

I was told by an impeccable source at the time of the Hunt signing that Andrew Demetriou had approached Andrew Ireland at the Swans and asked about their interest in Inglis.

Apparently there had been communication between Inglis' people and the AFL and the initial talks had been quite encouraging.

Obviously it never went any further than that.

Take that for what it's worth anyway.

He also said he doesn't want to play against the Storm, so if he gets forced out so they can get under the cap, that makes it possible he would switch to AFL or Union. I still don't think it's likely to happen, but I'm sure the AFL will have a chat to him and see if he's interested.

He wants to play for the Storm but the Storm might have to move him because of cap reasons.

He doesn't want to play against the Storm, he really likes Melbourne, and he is very keen on AFL.

The money and all that will be there for Greg, and he knows this already, the discussions have begun, even if they are in their infant stage.

It will come down to how the Storm suits want to restructure their team for next year.

It's looking like the Storm or AFL for Greg next year. It's anyone's guess how likely he is of staying at the Storm giving their cap issues.
