What would the Bombers have to pay him per year?
Wouldn't AFL wanna pull the breaks now. If they get too many stars coming through wouldn't it have a diminishing effect, especially if one comes to Melb.
Well the only real positive buzz that it's creating is in melbourne. Sure there is talk in Sydney but it's not the same. It's not like every person wants to chat about, every local personality wants to have a say about it. In Sydney as much as there is this train of though these days that any publicity is good publicity there is more a feeling of hate towards the code than curiosity.
So really the result has been good from a marketing POV in melbourne where it's created this big hype..all good if melbourne was the critical market.
If anything they need to use a current day player who has switched in his junior days from league to afl and made a successful transition. Who better than to be an ambassador up north for cross code promotion than Kieren Jack? It might be seen as promoting the swans in a way BUT with some clever marketing and spin it can be done without having to mention the swans once. And he is the son of a former great!!
His story and who he is and what he is becoming at the swans would be so logical. But i don't expect logic to come out of the AFL.

Doesn't ring true.
One week out of the world cup, and the nationwide sports coverage for Folau is ten times what the Socceroos are getting.
Update for you.
Where I thought it would be only if the Storm had to cut Greg that he would then seek out AFL, it seems Greg's camp is offering to leave the Storm for AFL to free up their cap.
So instead of it being the Storm advising Greg they can't keep him, Greg is prepared to potentially offer to leave to alleviate the cap issue.
A lot of smoke here.
I'm tipping Ray Hadley to kill someone if this goes ahead...
Surely not, good old Ray keeps telling us that nobody in Sydney cares about the defections.
I think a few NRL player agents are saying to themselves "You only get one Andrew Demetriou in your lifetime. We better make hay while the sun shines."
Doesn't ring true.

For one day Folau got more coverage, but that was it. And it certainly wasn't ten times the amount.
you're just looking at internet searches aren't you?
What methodology have you used to arrive at "ten times nationally"?
It's a blogger's off-the-top-of-his-head guestimate backed by keen observation, sniffing the wind, and an impromptu random sample that delivered a result with a 9.7569% probability of error.
Doubt it will happen even if he is forced to leave the Storm. Are Essendon really gonna chew up $300,000 in there salary cap on a player who has not even proved he can play the game.
If essendon get him for free i'd be very pissed simply because I don't like them, he has the potential to be a superstar in our game which I doubt the other 2 will be close 2.
Please oh please let it be Richmond or north that picks him up.
You're kidng yeah? 300k to a club who has the strongest book base in terms of financials and assets in the league, and without wasting a vital draft pick. Its a no brainer. Dare I say it, IF the opportunity came up, it would be completely negligent for the EFC not to go down that path.
What im more interested in is how other clubs are allowing Essendon to toot its horn out there, with the AFL saying theyd hand us a gift of cash for the experiment. Wouldnt poorer clubs be saying: "hang on a minute.. why should they be getting their foot in the door first""..
Im not a fool I understand the marketing concept behind it. Take a player from the NRL who will actually have NRL followers eyes on him when hes in the AFL, work it so he plays for a club with big sponsorship deals (Samsung) big games & big crowds, adds to the glory perception of others watching from the outside, with the view to strengthen particularly Western Sydney but also the Gold Coast. Its quite a genius move really when you think about it. Either way, IF it happened, and IF it failed, and IF Essendon did recruit him, we'd lose nothing from the venture anyway. Big tick.

Can see what the Bombers want out of an Inglis deal, but what are you prepared to put up ... nothing methinks !!
pretty much! That's the beauty of it
