Given you have picks 28/45 (providing no one uses their compo this year) it will most likely be Grigg for pick 28.

These are WC's draft picks, are you on the right board?

Craig Cameron has recently stated that RFC want to protect their draft picks, suggesting talent will come from youth - but will bring in players if at the right age and experience.

Grigg will be 23 next season, on the cusp of Cameron's preferred age bracket so is more likely to be traded for our 3rd round pick (46).

Plus, a 2nd round pick would have too many parallels to the McMahon disaster.

Why are Carlton supporters all so delusional?

Grigg for pick 28 not even in a million years.

PSD or a late pick.

Agree with the points on Grigg.

However, Ball was picked up in the National Draft, he wasn't traded.

well thats still what he is worth isn't it???? pick 30 in-fact it was his true worth on the opened market.

Has Tambling for Grigg in a straight swap been mentioned???? that one deal I would hate to happen. Couldn't stand seeing him in a Carlton jumper.

By the guy running the live trade week feed for afl.com.au

Complete idiot, reckons that is worth. Either a straight Tambling-Grigg swap or Grigg for 28. Doesn't seem to realise Grigg is out of contract.

Can see what you're saying, but there's more to it than that. Ball only ever wanted to go to Collingwood, and opposition clubs would probably be smart to stay out of Collingwood's way when they nominated that they wanted to take him. Clubs wouldn't want to get the Pies offside for future negotiations and given Ball wanted to go nowhere else....I don't think you can say Ball is "worth" Pick 30.

There are lots of things that come into play when evaluating what a player is worth.

Age
Price tag
Injuries
Length of contact wanted
Years off being fully developed etc...

these things play a big part. The 29 players picked before Ball were all young, cheap and full of potential.

Potential v Proven player is something that is sometimes under valued. With Ball Collingwood got a proven player which you would think has a lot more value than potential and at 25 when they picked him age wasn't really an issue and he was a fully developed player. They new exactly what out put he would give.

This is why I think he was worth alot more. First round pick atleast... if not top 10.

So his price tag was probably what put most clubs off him.

I think pick 45 for Grigg will be the go.

Doesnt make sense to me but dumber things have been done by my club lately.

I'd rather let him go for nothing than get done over like that. If you do secure him you will be very happy in years to come. I have no idea why he wasn't getting a game this year and will be a very productive certain 'week in week out' AFL player for a long long time to come. His kicking isn't as bad as advertised, his hands are terrific as is his pace and link up running. He can play forward back or mid, can tag and can win his own ball.

Congrats if you get him.

Dissapointing we didn't get him today, still time, just thought we could get him and move onto the next.

You should know why he wasn't getting game. One word: RATTEN.
The fact that 4 players want to bail on you is testament to that.

Honestly couldnt give a stuff what players wages are! The only thing that really matters IMO is how they perform on the field..........really, who cares if Robin Nahas is on 2.5 mil over 3 years or Jack Reiwoldt is on $45 a game!

By the sounds of it the club really needs to make up the 92.5% of the TPP and is front ending players contracts that they think will be valuable players for us!

Neither Grigg nor Houli have done enough to warrant a 300k + salary per season, regardless whether we have room in our cap or not
I wonder if you would say the same thing for Connors.

To be frank yes ! yes I would, but these are the problems clubs face, when trying to meet the min salary cap obligations, that players are rewarded far more then there talent/skills warrent

Fair enough, I thought you were complaining because we were offering these deals to players you don't want us to draft. Now its clear that your complaint is with the system.

Well no, my complaint isnt so much with the system, or whether we should recruit them, but the club being prepared to offer deals to players who's skill/output does not warrent it

I take it connors is currently on similar $$$$ arrangement? and if he is, then I dont believe his worth it either ... so these 2 fringe players who are struggling to get a regular game in there respective sides certainly dont derserve such lucrative deals.

Ben McGlyn and Kennedy went for about this...i dont see grigg rated any higher than this pair

You're judging with 20/20 hindsight. When they were traded they were (in my eyes) very average players. Kennedy has blossomed (to the surprise of most I would say) in the second half of this year and would not be traded for less than a top 20 now. Grigg will have a much better career than McGlynn.

Agree with the earlier poster commenting about Ratten. Not sure why he is still coach but I'm sure it amuses most other AFL clubs' fans.

If you don't rate Grigg no problem, but he will play 200 very servicable games wherever he ends up. I think that is worth more than 40 something in a compromised draft.
