I don't wear guernseys to games but I do dress head-to-toe in purple Freo gear. Well head-to-waist anyway - Freo t-shirt, Freo jacket if it's cold, and Freo hat or slouch beanie depending if it's a day or night game. It looks awesome when the stands are just a sea of purple.

No issues with people wearing guernseys if they want. True it's not a good look on those with big guts, but not much does look good on that body shape.

I'm with you estibador - I hate wearing pants to a game ...

It's a bit of a worry..bit sad.

You're not one of them are you?

I'm not one of them but, who are you to judge people for what they wear?

It's a bit of a worry and a bit sad that you even give f**k what other people are choosing to wear to games. Even sadder that you had to create a thread for it.

Not sure if it's been said but it's grown men who wave flags who should be outlawed.

Waving those gigantic pom pom things #whatsupwiththat #whatsallthatabout

People go to the footy and judge people on what they're wearing?
Must be insecure.

I kind of agree, but then I do sometimes thumb my nose at supporters wearing OLDER/OUTDATED club supporter wear. I'm also thumbing my nose at myself as the 2015 supporter gear for Hawthorn is not brown and gold (navy blue grrr) so I don't wear it. Some of it is fine, I still sometimes wear a Hawthorn polo shirt from 2008, despite it having the puma logo.

There is no disposable income in my world

Happy to drag out the old woollen faithful (with collar) as often as I can

I want to get the old wool VFL flashback jumpers (saw them on Hawksnest this year) but $200 was a bit much lol. Still have my old guernseys from my youth (including Vickick and Auskick days). Good times.

I kind of like the older club merchandise. Gee what I wouldn't give for the retro 70's/80's Hawks T-shirts with the trims!! :) ...and like you I still wear my 2008 chocolate polo with gold Hawk head emblem. Don't care if it's Puma. Just reminds me of that period (which I love). In 10 years time it will be (look) even better IMO.

I still have the '91 "household finance" wool guernsey. Just doesn't fit anymore lol.

Yours is a couple of years earlier than mine

MBA (don't remember what year that was)

Still fits but then again I bought it big enough to wear a hoodie underneath it

Even though we didn't call them hoodies back then

I looked it up... 1995

Such such a weird thread.
Weird or just plain stupid. Considering brown and gold are two very unflattering colours to wear, i would assume people are wearing guernseys to show their support to their team, not for a fashion parade. A ridiculous thread. I will continue to wear my hawks guernsey with pride regardless on what the fashion police believe is acceptable.

They had this discussion on SEN a few weeks ago. They have a show called Stars and Stripes where as you've probably guessed, they talk about American Sports. I can't remember who said it, but they said why is it considered as a sort of fashion for grown men to wear Ice Hockey, NBA or NFL jerseys, but if you wear an AFL jumper, you're a tool?

It's always the same reason. A few famous flogs do it, the flock follows suit and then it's "fashion". The NBA jerseys are the most obvious one, they've become fashionable because lots of rappers wear them in music clips.

So if you want Footy jumpers to become fashionable you just need to get a few Aussie 20-something movie stars snapped wearing them down at the shops. Then they'll be everywhere.

I own about 20-30 guernsey each with a different number on it. I also do a hand sketch of each player, put that on transfer paper and have it ironed on top left corner of each individual guernsey.
I usually try to wear each one for three days at a time so that they are used equally. I also wear face paint in the team colours.

I'm in my 40s and I can't wait to one day actually go to a game, that'd be awesome.

"Gotta support the team."

For me I guess it would depend on the sport (I'm yet to buy an NHL jersey, but I'd like to buy one at some point - i've got a replica player top from other major sports that Australia doesn't pay much attention to like baseball and gridiron).

I've worn basketball tops for years, in primary school it was while playing basketball, who didn't want to wear the tops Pippen or Jordan wore ? (I only had a 33 top). I wouldn't say that it came from rappers and such, although I did see the surge in people wearing them in non-basketball situations after White Men Can't Jump came out.

No idea where the straight bill hat obsession came from, they look so odd. and I'll never be caught dead wearing one, #standbycurvedhats

It's more a comfort thing, I wear the rugby league + union guernseys because of how they fit, not necessarily a status thing. It can generate both positive and negative discussion out in public.

Wear whatever you want, when you want, you don't need to justify it.

I was just explaining my take on how NBA jerseys have become fashionable and why AFL guernseys don't share the same status. It's truly ridiculous when you look at it.

Have no problem wearing the guernsey, as far as i'm concerned it's a good way to show your colours and that extra layer for those cold days at the footy.

Although since i got a hooded club jumper, the guernsey didn't get out much in the later rounds of the season
