Congratulations on a wonderful career Licca.

From personal experience I can say you're a wonderful bloke, your contribution to the club has been simply enormous and I have a great deal of respect for the way you conduct yourself on and off the field. The work you do for TAC patients is fantastic and I know what a difference it makes to those guys.

As a player, your leadership has been immensely valuable, and on a personal note your 40-possession game in the final at AAMI stadium was one of the most inspiring performances I've seen in the sporting arena.

Hopefully the club can offer you a position, either as VFL captain or in coaching/mentoring, that will maintain your connection to the Magpies for years to come and allow us to continue to benefit from your experience and professionalism.

Well done Licca. :thumbsu:

+1.

Are you sure this is correct???

Anyways, he has definately run his race..... I don't think he could go on next year!!

Well done Licca, Your 40 possession game against Port in the 2002 qualifying final was one of the best I've seen!!!

Does that mean another team can pick him up or what or is he retiiring??

Yes and no a team could talk him out of retirement ala Mal Michael brissie/Essendon saga. I really don't see Licca trying to play AFL anywhere else, loves the club and I dare say he knows that he can't get a game in our midfield he would be struggling in most midfields

I've been calling for him to retire... however I am saddened by this actually happening.

I do really rate him and think that his decision was the right one to make for he is not the Licca we all know and love.

I kind of wished that he could have been given a farewell game in round 22 or something now.

Thanks Paul

My sentiments exactly

This is as close as I've seen, article on the Australian newspaper website:

"As well, the likely retirement of Paul Lucuria -- like Clement, a dual Copeland Trophy winner -- should give the Magpies salary cap relief next year of up to $750,000.

Licuria was overlooked for Collingwood's finals campaign this month. "

It is inevitable he will retire. The heart and soul of our football club in 02 and 03 when we made those grand finals. He epitomised everything good about the Collingwood football club and his example and leadership around the club will be sorely missed.

He is the only one apparently who goes close to rivalling Buckley in terms of training, preparation, dedication etc.
