Is it heavily influenced by the fact the team you support doesn't footy well? My guess is it is driven by jealousy.

When your club achieves something then it’s worth being jealous of

GWS are the end product of a fat man's ego. They are a plastic club that barely anyone cares about.
Still a bit raw that Kelly said no to being a multimillionaire at your franchise?
Thatd hurt the ol ego.

Gws have won only 2 out of their last 8 games played in Melbourne (etihad/mcg).

A problem that needs addressing, because with an inability to win in Melbourne comes with an inability to win a premiership.

More and more people seem to care, whether they want GWS to win or not most footy followers have an opinion

They are boring to watch but it's not because of their style, it's because they aren't interesting. They have no real rivalry, never seem to pull out those inspiring wins, their best players have played around 100 games and their most well known players are just kind of talented guys that were never faces of their clubs or anything besides Griffen or Ward who haven't played well enough, they don't have a Buddy type that makes you want to watch.

The most hostile clubs towards them are the Dogs who would deny there's a rivalry and a team that just happens to be in the same city. The most notable thing they've done in finals is draw less than 15,000. Their jumper and name screams uninspired club created in a board room, I really don't hate them at all but it's hard to care, it will probably change eventually.

Jezza Cameron provides some highlights, Shiel and Kelly and Toby Greene are fun to watch for different reasons

We've generally looked pretty exciting running rings around the Hawks midfield at Spotless though.

You mean the fans last year when we had half our dude out and you still couldn’t beat us?

As much as it hurt loosing Franklin, can’t blame him going to Sydney instead of your crap club. P s I hear that the wanderers are still drawing much bigger crowds than you guys

Yep we were lucky to have an injury free run last year. As for the rest I expect you'll provide excitement for us again this year.

One point worth noting is they beat Sydney at Homebush in an all Sydney final in front of 60,000. Really good finals game too.

I would happily watch them win a premiership while others cry foul and claim the competition is rigged.

I'd rather see GWS win ahead of many other teams (Melbourne, North Melbourne, Geelong, Sydney, Gold Coast, St Kilda, Western Bulldogs, Carlton, Collingwood etc).
interesting view

I like watching GWS? Sure they don't have history but neither did most of the non-VFL clubs till they entered the AFL.

Coniglio, Shiel, Scully, Ward and Kelly are all elite mids. All different players but great for various reasons.

Davis is an underrated KD, Haynes is also very underrated, Williams doing an ACL is real shame as he is actually a very quality footballer.

Greene love him or hate him is one of the best smalls in the comp. Cameron/Patton both provide highlights too.

Wow. Usually people wait until the monday before the Giants rant thread is made.

We're boldly building the game in foreign territory. You're welcome

Hasn't happened with Freo after all these years?

I’ve heard my team be accused of a number of different things over the journey - but this is a first for “ugly footy”.

More a thread for the Bay than the main board I would have thought but hey, whatever floats your boat I suppose.
I really cant speak for Freo Falcon. But I will say this....

On field, you will be judged by how you go in your 22 games and finals (If you make it).

Off field, It would be harsh to judge you after 6-7 seasons. Not surprisingly the GWS crowds have increased due to GWS winning games. This is a generational thing. So We will look at how many Hardcore fans are in GWS after 20-30 years.

Put it this way, Brisbane was struggling From 1987-1994. They were lucky to average 6-8,000 a game. When they made finals in 1995 they were getting crows between 10-15,000. 1996, they got to a prelim and were selling out the Gabba at held between 20-25,000 seats. Then came the 2001-2004 period where they made those grand finals and they were regularly selling out the Gabba at the time that had a seating Capacity of 37,500.

Look at the Swans too. From 1992-4, they got 3 wins in 1992, 1 in 1993 and 4 in 1994. They were averaging 8-9,000 people a game. They made the Grand final in 1996. In 1997 they were averaging 20-25,000 people a game.

In 1993, Brisbane were 13th out of 15th with 4 wins, Swans were bottom with 1 win. By 1996, Brisbane finished 3rd and got to a prelim, Swans finished top and lost a grand final to the Kangaroos.

things can turn around quickly. Winning games, even if it is ugly brings supporters to the game. Mark Harvey played some good attacking football from 2007-2011 but we only played finals once. Ross Lyon took over in 2012. Freo played ugly football but got us into a grand final.
