Haddin to replace Gilchrist - What State is he from?

I think the signs are there that they are going for youth in the one dayers now (Australia A, Maher, Bichel, with only 5 days of cricket now to prove himself u can probably add Lehmann to the list). That reduces it to Clingeleffer, Haddin and Manou. They also have to have a keeper who can open (they could drop Martyn for Katich but that's clearly not going to happen) and that only leaves one from that list

RooBunny, that's because it's always the lesser game in Adelaide and that's where they try to do most of the resting.

Why don't they get Langer to keep in the one dayers? He has kept before at state level and did a fairly reasonable job. Also he opens the batting and has been in sizzling form this summer in the pajama game

Same as Maher, Seccombe, Campbell - age. I guess Ponting could be an option though (but he probably needs a decent break too and will be rested for Perth IMO)

His keeping stats are better too.

Ah, horribly simplistic.

Simple catching statistics prove absolutely nothing because they do not take into account chances, they are simply raw figures.

If you honestly judge a keeper on his amount of catches, then i'm glad you aren't selecting our national team

I've got no problem with Haddin. His keeping has improved this season and he's always been a fast scoring batsman.

I'm relieved the selectors love affair with Ryan Campbell is over.

As for Maher, you people do realise he was only made into a make-shift keeper so as not to waste a place in the World Cup squad on a specialist keeper?

Langer was probably unlucky to be overlooked for Katich... but then again, JL wont be around come the next world cup...

Why the dislike for Campbell? Id take him over Haddin any day.

Was thinking the same thing. he has been absolutely shunned by the selectors no question.

Actually the selectors had little choice. While Campbell was the incumbent he has done nothing this year. In fact Luke Ronchi (excellent player and will fight with Crostlewaite (spelling?) to replace Gilchrist in 3 or four years) should replace him this season.

Seccombe is a good player but is about 30 and his batting has only become international standard this year.

Manou struggles with bat as does Clingleffer. Both are good glovemen and are improving with the bat but have a way to go. Roach/Berry are on the bottom of the tree.

So in picking a specialist keeper (Maher will still do tours as he has multiple roles) Haddin was the only real choice.

Shame he comes from NSW!

F*** the NSW oh oh I mean the Australian team:rolleyes: , I haven't supported them these north of the border royal blue suck holes ever since those bastard selectors gave Dean Jones the arse and when Merv Hughes retired, so with this in mind and it pains me to say this but GO INDIA!!!!!!!, if this is the only way that we can get rid of the chosen (NSW) people from our national team, then we're left with no choice.

It seems that Clingeleffer has 'struggled' himself a better Pura Cup and ING average than Haddin this season.

Argument quashed.

Typical. Overlook the current seasons stats.

Care to quote Haddin's ING average for the season? ;)

makes you wonder about hooksies demise, and the subsequent selection of hadden.

without a doubt the best 'pure wicketkeeper' is, when not injured our own darren berry.

however his batting has barely been serviceable throughout his career, and in comparison to the majority of batting keepers, he pales.

but hadden can't bat and isn't in the best 5 keepers in the land.

I agree that the mafia has landed, but you could say that even as early as the big bill lawrie getting the chop.

i remember a sign at the G years ago 'mark waugh + talent = Dean jones".

you could say that about bing, brocken, hadden, even clarke

queue jumpers.

i think the current state of the NSW lineup tells the story of there talent pool don't you think?
