Was a fair effort, but we had a lot of good players who missed a lot of games to injury, I think he stood well outside the top 10 players in terms of our best quality players but he was around when others were injured so kudos to him.

Yeah we're in the same boat. Franklin came 3rd because Ladson was injured.

I
The average number of games played per player was 13.42 games for the year and players averaged 9.72 scoring games for the season so that means 72% of the time you played you registered a score. So playing 22 games is a huge advantage given the average is only 13.42 games played.

Gibson scored votes in 17 of the 22 games or 77.3% of the time which was 16th in terms of frequency of scoring votes and scored an average of 17.95 points per game scored which put him 11th in terms of averaged scored.

Swallow, the winner of our award scored votes 21 out of the 22 games and had the second highest average per game behind Rawlings. There were a lot of players cut down by injured that scored more frequently and scored higher averages, the way the Syd Barker award works though is rewards those that play consistently and play frequently.

I might add, that Swallow won polling 472 votes, in 2007 Grant came in 10th place on 658 votes which reflects how poor our year was in 2009 on-field.

Your telling us he polled highly because he was the guy who happened to be on the ground, I get it.

He finished 5th, but you want to devalue him. I get that too.

This is the key though:

the way the Syd Barker award works though is rewards those that play consistently and play frequently.

I'm not pretending he's a superstar, but this effort to make out that he is a spud is frankly a bit sad.

I'm pretty sure we didn't carry on like this about Nathan Thompson.

No North fan is pretending Josh is a spud overall. he's a good footballer. He's no great shakes as KPD though. We learned that the hard way. Seems you're determined to do it too.

As regards Thommo, yeah, Hawthorn types have always maintained a quiet dignity over that one.

FFS.

Perhaps. I'm willing to reserve judgement until he plays in a closer to full strength side. Hall got a couple of those laces out. No one is stopping that and blame has to be squared with the midfield, who have some defensive issues to address. I have a feeling he'll be moved over to the 2nd or third forward as the season progresses.

My concern was his positioning. Assuming the Danny Jacobs Position (two metres to the side of his opponents) is not going to work with the big boys.

Even then. Consider that last year we had Thompson, Hansen and Grima all ahead of him for first, second, third forwards.

IMO Josh faces a bit of an issue in that he's just undersized for KPD and doesn't quite have the speed or awareness to be a genuine mid.

The bloke has talent and can certainly play good footy but needs careful coaching IMO.

That's called good drafting, SLF. The guys you get being better than the blokes you already have.

I think your likely right about Gibson in the long run. Croad is the same size give or take a cm but got it done with positioning and body work.

The guy who was very important to Hawthorn's defense in '08 was Danny Frawley. Wasn't around in '09 but back consulting again this season. Hopefully Josh is Danny's little project this season.

Interesting call on Frawley. I'd argue that Hodge was so vital to you guys as well, marshalling the defence.

Hope it works out for Gibbo and you lot (except against us etc)
