I was thinking about Brent Prismall's injury and how he will miss out on a chance of a Prelim, possible GF and possible flag because of it (I still like to keep the lid on, hence the word 'possible' ;)).

Now obviously he has some company down at catland in the form of Matty Egan and both these players missed out last year also. Now Egan is clearly unlucky as he'd have been a definite starter last year and almost certainly would have held down CHB this year. Blakey also was stiff last year (although the correct decision was made).

Who are other players whom you consider to have been hard done by and miss a GF or premiership? Whether through being dropped, injury or suspension.

One of the most famous, Derek Kickett in 1993 played all year but his form was waning towards the business end. Played in the miraculous comeback in the preliminary final but was dropped for the grandfinal the week after. Poor bloke missed out on a premiership and still does not speak to Mr Sheedy.

1996 - John Longmire through injury, Ross Smith through bad timing and Matthew Armstrong through hard luck at selection

1999 - Robert Scott unlucky to miss out at selection. Actually, anyone who got left out to make way for Cameron Mooney. And Jason McCartney unlucky to miss out, but could hardly escape suspension.

Unlike Jason Cloke who was pretty unlucky to miss.

Jason McCartney played every game up until the Grand Final during the 1999 season, only to punch Clark Keating in the nose with 2 minutes left in the Prelim. Copped a week, and thats all she wrote for the poor bugger. Is an absolute ripper bloke though.

Another would probably be Jason Cloke, although he was lucky to be in the team.

Only Kickett himself would think that. Perhaps if he had some form and actually trained he might have been picked. Only Kickett denied himself a GF spot. Even in the PF he did SFA. Everyone says Watson was lucky. He had the form on the board and the will to get the team to win. That was the difference.

That wasn't hard luck. It was because he was horrendously out of form.

Riccuito missed in 97 I think?
Another famous one is Peter Crimmins. That photo of the hawk boys bringing the cup into see him in hospital was a ripper.

Yep, roo-pert missed in 1997.
That photo of the hawks bringing the cup in to Crimmins always guts me personally. Iconic I would say:(

Neville Crowe.

If I remember the story correctley, was suspended for hitting John Nichols in the Prelim Final. Goold ole Big Nic later came out and said he never even touched him... After Neville missed out on winning the Tigers first premiership in some 25 odd years due to being suspended by cheating Carlton's Big Nic.

fOOKING cARLTON

Didn't he play every H&A game, plus every final up to then?

Perhaps if Sheed's had dropped him in say round 20 it might not seem so harsh, plus he might actually have stepped up come finals time with his commitment and training.

I'd be seriously pissed off too if I played all 22 H&A games, plus every final and then wasn't selected to be perfectly honest.

What about Brad Smith?

Drafted as a mature age recruit for the Eagles, after ripping it up in the WAFL. Two consecutive knee reconstructions later and his career was over without have ever played a game.

Apparently, he missed out on being drafted as a youngster after... you guessed it, getting injured.

Spida everitt - 1997. Always remember him training in the sling to try to get into the side. That rates pretty highly in my book
Did he? wow... what a gun

That was so unfair.. killed it all year, and does the collarbone against the lions...

i still say it, if we had him in the gf, we woulda won.. meh, woulda coulda shoulda... different kettle of fish

modz 97 98 is stiff

He'd been rubbish for about 5-6 weeks. Did not deserve a gig in the GF team.
