What a story- Moore

There’ve been times at the footy when I’m watching Darcy and have called him ‘Peter’. Darcy’s taller, but the similarities are in the gait, the kicking motion, the marking. We Pies have been very fortunate to have both play for us.

I always scoffed at the myth that West Coast ruckman, Dean Cox "changed the game" by playing as a virtual midfielder.
What he did was no different to Jim Stynes running mini-marathons for the Dees every weekend in the 90's

Peter Moore was actually the first ruckman I ever saw who outran everybody else on the ground and played like a tall midfielder. He was a great athlete. A bit quicker than his son. He loved to dash away from hapless opponents and take a couple of bounces.

Collingwood's leading ball-getters (1980)
  1. Ray Shaw...... 543 disposals (avg 20.9)
  2. Peter Moore... 476 disposals (avg 19.0)
  3. Peter Daicos... 402 disposals (avg 19.1)
Melbourne's leading ball-getters (1984)
  1. Peter Moore.... 481 disposals (avg 21.9)
  2. Gerard Healy... 437 disposals (avg 21.8)
  3. Robert Flower... 391 disposals (avg 18.6)

Less team competition and umpires who have routinely got voting wrong over the years.
Also its 2 years in a 20 year career.

Wasnt even the B and F for his 2nd Brownlow.
Nah.. Moore deserved both his Brownlows. He wasn't the outright favourite, but he was in the mix.

Lots of Brownlow Medalists didn't win their club best and fairest.
Different criteria, different scoring systems

True. B and Fs tend to be a far better measure of the better season. Especially in the days when 8 or 10 good games were enough to win a Brownlow.

And Polly did it 20 years before him.

BTW Madden was the best ruckman in Moore's era.

Madden more the ruckman/forward, Moore the ruckman/follower.

Four times Moore tallied over 400 disposals in a season, twice he almost made it to 500.

Four times Madden tallied over 300 disposals in a season, he almost made it to 400 once.

Madden kills him in goal kicking despite Moore kicking over 50 twice in a season but he was a specialist forward in those seasons.

Madden a lot more consistent over a much longer period.

My two favourite rucks of the era.

He played proper 12 seasons. That honestly sounds like a pretty piss poor response for why he won 2 Brownlow medals and Madden didn’t win 1.

Not to be pedantic, but the sign actually said "Moore Filth" :p

It wasn't a sign held up by cheer squad member behind the goals. It was huge sign that one of them draped over the second level of the Southern Stand before the game. It stayed there until quarter time when Peter Moore asked one of the MCG staff to take it down.

Collingwood fans had a funny double standard about 'traitors'

Their 1981 team had the following players which the Pies had poached from other clubs

Graeme Allan.......... 87 games for Fitzroy
Warwick Irwin........ 213 games for Fitzroy
Kevin Morris.......... 110 games for Richmond
Allan Edwards.......... 66 games for Richmond
Ross Brewer............121 games for Melbourne
Craig Davis............. 52 games for Carlton/North
Ray Byrne............... 81 games for Carlton
Russel Ohlsen.......... 47 games for Carlton
Mark Taylor............ 200 games for Norwood
Mark Williams......... 150 games for West/Port Adelaide
Kevin Worthington... 102 games for Claremont
Stan Magro............ 105 games for South Fremantle
John Annear............. 60 games for Claremont

In 1982, they bought the '77 Brownlow Medalist, Graeme Teasdale from the Swans

Collingwood pretty much bought any player they wanted to fill their recruiting needs.
But geez, didn't they get salty when the player transfer went the other way for once. :D
I thought the banner said "no Moore filth" how dodgy js my memory?

They don't play for you.

They play for the football business that pays them the most money and/or allows them the greatest opportunity to make the most money.

Moore was a gun. Madden was next level.
Madden was the best ruck I ever saw, invented new techniques (remember how he’d put two hands up, the right to spoil and his left to hook it down?) and scored goals too.

Gangly but effective and those dinky palms to annoying runners like Ezard or Buhagiar were so destructive, and able to clash hard when needed. Solid mark as well, smart handball and above average kick. Played many great seasons and made his team mates better, like instinctively creative.

Moore was a superb athlete, which made him a dangerous FF or ruck or mid and as mentioned he had a massive tank so he ran all day. The Stynes analogy isn’t exact but gives you a sense of it, there was a touch of NicNat too.

His ruck craft was lacking IIRC, nowhere near Madden for finding his rovers. Massive mark, long straight kick. Maybe had smarts but rarely needed to show them as he was fitter faster and a higher leap than almost everyone.

You could argue Moore was a better individual player (Madden had several down years in a longer career, not sure if it was injury or confidence) and the Brownlows reflect that. Madden was “more valuable“ and made others better too. In a strong tough side he was a peerless ruck craftsman. First ruck ahead of J Madden-and Salmon who became dominant first rucks at other clubs which sums it up.

Our game starts with the rucks, and Madden gave brilliant first use to his team like no one since. They say Farmer was better, he must’ve been a God.

the dude your opinion GIF

Moore says he plays for the fans and the fans help him play better. Sure he collects a pay check. He’d be playing footy in the ammo’s if he wasn’t AFL standard, thousands do.

But I guess the edge needs its lord.
