Prediction Harry Sheezel - Can he be the GOAT?

Surprised Daicos gets so much many plaudits than this guy, IMO. Easier to look better in a big team winning games, I suppose.

Similar in many ways but I feel that if you swapped the teams they were in, Sheezel would go to another level.

Very similar players but Sheezel seems to have more contested ability.
who does harry sheezel play for, that’ll answer your question

Well, exactly.

Mind you, once they start winning games things will change.

He doesn't get the plaudits Naicos does because they lose all the time, whereas Naicos really stands out in a winning team, which Sheezel would undoubtedly do it North were winning.

primary difference to my eye is that sheezel stands out in losing teams, regularly has near BOG performances in games that north’s lost. likely to go down as a modern great. fantastic understanding of the game & really sets solid examples of how to play properly for team mates

Out of interest, how many times had he been considered BOG by either the umpires or coaches?

I am interested to see him get tagged. They would want to be comfortable going one out from the goal square as that’s a side to his game we haven’t seen from sheez yet.
Yeah, would be interesting to see how he handles it.

For some reason, coaches don't seem to want to tag Daicos but when they do, he's shown he's very susceptible to it.

I mean, just look at the job Will Phillips did on him last year, before Clarkson inexplicably subbed him out and Daicos pretty much won the game for Collingwood.

🤷‍♂️ youd have to search it yourself. my anecdotal point (which doesn’t pertain to another certain young player) is that he’s an outstanding leader at his young age who’ll continue to set high standards at north. he’s hardly had a poor game since he debuted, no matter the opposition

Daicos had run Phillips off his feet, hence why he was subbed out.

Hang on....

Are you suggesting he's yet to be tagged?

Well he gets it 30 times a week and in the breaks different records every other week

  • most possessions in debut year
  • highest % of score involvements
  • youngest player to 20 contested possessions in a game etc

So if he’s being tagged then geez he’s the greatest player of all time

You're the one who said he 'regularly' gets near BOG performances in losing teams.

I'd have though you'd have the data to support such a statement.

i’m afraid you can’t bait me into a data squabble because i frankly don’t care enough about a player in a team i don’t support. i’m simply appreciative that he’s an excellent player and he’s a wonder to watch live, a pleasure i’ve had on many occasions

Sheezel is one hell of a player. Time will tell, but I don't think he has the physical advantages that make him unstoppable to get to the level of the very best of recent times.

Who are the unstoppable players of recent times?

Ablett, Bont? Cripps? Judd, Martin?

Then there’s others like Swan, Neale, Oliver, Mitchell, Fyfe, Danger, Pendles.

He’s certainly not Judd etc

But he’s deceptively strong and thick like Ablett Jnr as an example. Not all of the above names were athletic freaks.

He’s always had an absolutely huge engine, even in juniors he was a sub 6:00 2km runner.

I don’t think he’s physically disadvantaged vs someone like a Neale or Oliver etc.

Anyway, it’s his footy IQ and skill level that is what’s off the charts and makes him the player he is.

It’s arguably more sustainable anyway.

I think he's going to be a champion - on the second line of greatness. The very top line have combinations of physical traits that are rarely matched to go with with the football ability.

Ablett, Bont, Cripps, Judd, Martin

Ablett:
  • Quick, but not super quick
  • Very agile, low center of gravity
  • Strong through the core
  • Amazing tank
Bont:
  • Tall
  • Agile for a tall bloke
  • Extremely strong core
  • Great tank
Cripps:
  • Tall
  • Extremely strong core
Judd (WCE)
  • Extremely fast first few steps
  • Extremely agile
  • Extremely strong core
  • Amazing tank
  • Extremely quick top-end speed
Judd (CARL)
  • Extremely agile
  • Extremely strong core
  • Amazing tank
  • Great top-end speed
Martin:
  • Extremely strong core
  • Amazing fend off, impossible to defend 1v1 on the ground and in the air
  • Strong burst
I think Sheezel has as many traits as most of these guys. He is extremely strong through the core, he's amazingly agile (turns on a time) and has an amazing tank for a 2nd year player.

I don't know, I don't think he is a freak athlete but of all of these guys for mine Judd is the only one I would consider a freak. Danger and Fyfe are freakier than all of them and they aren't in the same category. Tom De Koning, Mac Andrew, Sam Darcy, Sam De Koning are better athletes than all of these guys and they aren't better players.

I wouldn't put Bont with those others or Cripps. That topline and I'd add Buddy all had physical traits that enabled them to create space and seperation where others couldn't - yes Danger and Fyfe were physically awesome too, but a touch below the others as footballers due to football skills - I'd have Cripps alongside them. Your list of high leaping talls aren't particularly relevant - the attributes to take speckies just aren't as consistently beneficial as those other attributes.

If we’re talking about a combination of skills and physical attributes then yes, obviously Ablett Jr stands head and shoulders above the rest

But I would just assert that Sheezel is every bit as athletically gifted as every one of those top end players and that if North start playing some OK footy that his stock will rise like nothing we’ve ever seen
