Opinion Has the MCG become a homogeneous ground ?

In comparison to many international cities, Melbourne is a sleepy town at night.
Peak mcg was when it had the ponsford, old members and olympic stand.
1989 ish or 1993ish?
MCG is still in operating terms the best and can host any event its got it covered.
But now a days the MCG is one big concrete ground and really lacks any character and all looks the same and theres nothing quirky either.
Even the old MCC is lacking charm. Big is the theme there and a big is better theme at that.
Still think MCG is the best multi purpose venue in the world and is top quality venue.
Top class staff there as well.
The SCG though always feel like you are crammed in and on top of each other. The playing surface is way to small for footy.
SCG is great only for the cricket still not up to scrath for footy apart from rugby.
Classy members stand love it.
Not a fan of the security there they are on top of you all the time and to easy can turf you out of the venue.
Hard to get food and drinks as well.

If not the MCG, what then? 100,000 capacity, stroll from the CBD, rich history. Nothing in Australia matches it. Adelaide Oval is good but holds only 45,000(?)

Optus is a far superior venue, merely because it's not in a dilapidated state.

The AFL is now a commercialised entertainment product. It’s a tv game, merchandise & memorabilia sales generator, a more OH&S friendly employer. An athlete’s game. Clubs are employers, not a career commitment. AFL’s a betting game.
Back then, footy was an identity, a culture & a passion. You lived and breathed it. You talked about the big hits, the courage, the speccies, the 100 goal in a season club.
The game continues to evolve, sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse. Much like stadiums & their facilities.

I'd like to know what the new Shane Warne or Great Southern Stand would look like if it's redeveloped. Will there be cup holders like Perth? Will it be even higher than the Ponsford Stand?
I wouldn't mind seeing the MCG's capacity increased to 125,000 - that would be a restoration of the old days when 121,000 crammed into the 1970 grand final. Imagine more people than that cheering in a modern granny in full colour and HD. It would be unreal in person and on TV.

Bring back the standing bays!!
The mcg is literally the biggest professional sports stadium on the planet.
The game back then had much smaller crowds and no one could watch the games on tv either.
hard to see how it had more influence when far less people saw it both in person and on a screen.
Was at optus recently. Its just another docklands. Zero soul. everything looks the same giving no sense of perspective. And its small.
optus didnt even have a roof. At least docklands roof gives it a tiny bit of identity.

Forget comparing it to other australian stadiums. Name a stadium anywhere else on the planet that has the combination of high capacity, rich history, depth of sport, central location, high quality seating options and distinctive stands. There is no where else. On the planet.

Look the religious/cult like defence of da "G" is cute and all, but like all religions/cults, it's mythology isn't rooted in reality and corruption pervades it. If the MCG was a person it would be Oprah Winfrey.

Would that make GMHBA Oscar Pistorius because it’s only half done?In that perspective, if Adelaide oval was a person it would be Danny DeVito. Still a stadium, just a bit smaller
This, best stadium to watch footy at IMO, not a bad seat in the house.
