*when.

They will give Voss until the bye I think.

The off-season recruitment and pre-season have been diabolical, all but ensuring another rebuild.

Most important for Carlton is to fight hard not to bottom out like previous rebuilds.

Carlton have proven high end draft picks are not the be and end all. Next rebuild needs to be predicated on setting up the right performance culture ala Geelong, Richmond, Sydney etc etc. This Carlton team is a bunch of very talented but very pampered players who aren’t driven to perform.
What are your thoughts on the recruitment/trade decisions?

What do you think they should have done?

Yeah, just about time to blow it up I reckon.

Use the TDK situation as the catalyst, love the guy and hate to lose him but the St Kilda money is ridiculous, can't be paying a ruck that, certainly not a club with our salary cap situation. Cripps Wieters and Charlie off limits but entertain offers for any other player, free up some cap space and more evenly distribute in an effort to get actual league standard lower end players. And for the love of god prioritise speed and kicking skills, we're so far off the modern game in terms of style its ridiculous :drunk:

Interesting position, given the vitriol I received from the majority of Carlton supporters when I suggested Harry should be put up for trade two or three years ago...

Unfortunately for Carlton, his currency isn't anywhere near now what it was then.

I’d entertain it. Would happily use him as depth if Mabior were to go down.

Can't imagine it would be lower now than when he was in the midst of his yips 2 years ago.

Just my 2c in any case, your discussions with other carlton supporters are your own.

Nothing wrong with recruiting - 7 of our premiership players were recruits.

The problem is the quality - that Carlton list is remarkably uninspiring.

By comparison:

Neale, Dunkley, Cameron, Daniher, Ah Chee, McKenna, Fort.
I do agree that Carlton has had some bad whiffs.

Saad and maybe Cerra are the only recruits I’ve really liked.

However it’s not every day a Neale, Dunkley or Daniher pop up. Brisbane got very fortunate with all 3 being ready made guns.

We tried to pick up Papley who would have been an awesome get and we’re screwed over by Essendon refusing to trade Daniher that season. Only for them to trade him a year later.

There definitely has been a level of desperation from the club to bring in talent in years it really wasn’t there and that’s how we’ve ended up paying big cod McGovern and Williams who have been terrible pick ups.

WalshistheGOAT who is the Blues match winner? the guy who will give his team mates a magic moment? a quarter and kick 3 goals? take a screamer?

Curnow can do it but anyone else on the list? I really thought TDK could but he was exceptionally good but didn't show these characteristics. That is what the Blues are missing imho

Anyone in the reserves who could be the Blues X factor come finals time ?
I think Cripps, TDK and Curnow are the only 3.

But yes it’s a clear problem with the list. You watch the Lions last year or Pies the year before as premiers.

Rayner had huge moments in their flag push. For the Pies, Bobby Hill turned it on in the grand final.

We don’t have any smaller players with real X factor.

Jack Martin fit the bill because he was capable of kicking 3-4 in a quarter, taking some key marks (like he did in the Swans final). But he never got on the park.

Club is obsessed with recruiting safe vanilla types who probably end up okay footballers but having a whole bunch of them is a problem because they don’t have great skills and they don’t have the ability to turn into game changers.

The last time they played their upcoming round 2 opponents Hawthorn in round 22, they were pumped by 74 points, 112 to 38.
Carlton's chance to redeem themselves for both last week and that round 22 game. Beat the Hawks tonight and the narrative changes.

Lose badly tonight and the pile on will be massive. That would equate to 9 losses in their last 11 games and those 2 wins came against bottom of the ladder Roos & Eagles.

What happens with the more likely result, which is neither a Hawthorn landslide win or a Carlton upset? Let's say Hawthorn by 16 points in a competitive match.

McSpud is on a good wicket.
If you are talking about McStay, he is on $650k. I don’t see many free agents going anywhere near that low.

Also, if he wasn’t for him, we wouldn’t have played in the 2023 GF and subsequently be premiers.
A true Finals footballer.

Curnow on almost double, yet a massive failure under finals pressure.

But that’s Carlton isn’t it….
