Have people outside of Port Adelaide realized how good Jay Schulz has become yet?

Main board thread pumping up own team's player #45561:

Rated by Champion Data as the most accurate set shot in the game last year.
Second in the AFL for average goals.
Second for average marks inside 50.
17th for average contested marks, with two players who have only played 1 game ahead of him.

All of this despite playing in a shit team and despite missing half a game against the Crows due to injury affecting his averages. If he'd kicked 2 more goals in the second half against the Crows (definitely not beyond him) he would've been leading the AFL for average goals.

Watch him spud it up next week now that I've made this thread, but I thought he deserved some recognition for his amazing improvement since he left Richmond.

He was a late-bloomer and playing alongside Richardson wouldn't have been easy. How the Tigers would love to have him alongside J.Roo - or even ahead of him in current form.

Can someone fill me in on exactly why he left the Tigers?

This guy.

Because he couldn't handle playing second fiddle to Richo, and by the time Richo was ready to move on, he needed a fresh start.

It's like ruckmen, when they become 'Number 1', some of them seem to make a massive improvement. Schulz needed to become the focal point up forward before he stepped up.

Cheers. :thumbsu:

He's been much improved when he's managed to get on the park for Port, but still pretty inconsistent. His goal tallies have been 2,4,2,2,1,7. At least now in his poor games he's still managing a goal or two.

Yesterday confirmed it. First Rodan, and now Schulz. Port have a knack in turning Tigers into Power houses

Rodan's been ordinary and injury prone at Port. Improved yes, but still ordinary.

Like Ottens?

Sorry but losing good players for "opportunity" reasons is a cop-out.....especially in a weak team where theres plenty of room for good players to get a game.

Shultz is just another Richmond mistake in a long line if Richmond mistakes. Fortunately for the Tiges they finallly seem to be on the right path, but they should never have lost Shultz. Hes a classic case of talls taking time and the original club not having the patience to wait and develop.

He's having a far superior season to J.Roo. Offering at least a goal a game is as consistent as key forward will be.

Sculz cannot play as a second fiddle player. He just can't do it. Tredrea, Riewoldt, Richo, all rendered him useless.

Ottens who was All Australian forward at Richmond. Who we fought to keep at the club who in the end went for money? Struggled before improving into a great ruck at Geelong. Completely different to Schulz.

Schulz is a good player, certainly showed signs of that with us. As others have mentioned, he struggles as a #2. We would of struggled with Jack/Schulz anyway as neither can backup ruck and both are deep forwards without massive pace. You could well argue Schulz is currently the better player but age is still with Jack.

Who else have we let go that was a mistake? Am happy to cop the poor drafting until recent years but our delisting has hardly been poor. Rodan? Was good early at Port but mainly did the same as he did for Richmond, look amazingly good 10% of the time and then stink it up the other 90% of the time. Krakouer, a unique case and certainly showed he could play but issues got the better of him. Raines? No superstar and wanted to go, although would of been a handy tagger replacement for Jackson.
