Hawthorn has zeroed-in on former Western Bulldog Wayde Skipper as the latest potential solution to the club's shortage of ruck options.
Skipper, a 193cm utility who made 45 senior appearances in his seven seasons with the Bulldogs, has been given permission to train with the Hawks in the lead-up to next week's national draft.

Not convinced Skipper at 193cm can ruck??

Re: Hawks eye Skipper (Article)

Any number of players would be better ruck options than Skipper.

Bryan, Cloke and Meesen to name a few would all be better suited to the role

Yep. Agreed.

Call me cynical but it seems like a decoy to me. Tis the only thing that makes remote sense.

Re: Hawks eye Skipper (Article)

Bryan would give you 100% guaranteed. Hope for his sake you guys take him. Don't think he'd let you down in terms of getting the maximum out of himself.

Re: Hawks eye Skipper (Article)

Wayde Skipper - would be my 1st option...

Cameron Cloke - would be my 2nd option...

Adam Pattison - would be my 3rd option...

Chris Bryan - would be my 4th option...

At least these 4 guys have been around the traps long enough and have some pretty good experience.

I know their no worldbeaters, but thats what is pretty much on offer and we Need a 3rd Ruckman, and anyone suggesting otherwise or winging about all the ruckman and ignoring the ones available in this draft, need to wake up and understand Hawthorn Must fill a problem we have...If only for season 2010.

... Skipper is 193cm?

... Skipper is 193cm?

Then he needs to jump higher... :D:D:D

Look the way I look at it is, the Bulldogs have been making finals with him as a 3rd Ruckman the last few years, as have Carlton with Cloke this year. Surely we can too with him.

Skippers advantage would be moving around the ground. Just because you have height, does not mean you are a 'Great Ruckman'...

Re: Hawks eye Skipper (Article)

Yep.
We apparently have a shortage of ruckmen. And there's apparently a paucity of decent, tall ruckmen to draft. So we're apparently looking at a mediocre short ruckman. It doesn't make sense.

Re: Hawks eye Skipper (Article)

The guy has played only 1 game for the senior squad in the past 2 seasons.

He was never a regular in the team, just a pinch hitting ruckman.

I cannot understand why the club are entertaining the thought.
Maybe they will use him in defence and attack, i don't know what his leg speed is like for him to play that role, but wait isn't he a left footer.

Know i understand the logic behind the clubs interest in skipper.
Clarko loves LEFT FOOTERS, how many left footers would that make 14? :D

Re: Hawks eye Skipper (Article)

I thought we might have been considering Scott Wynd when I saw this thread title.

It still hurts me that he beat Dunstall for the Brownlow despite Bung kicking 145 goals that year.

Ladies and gentlemen of the supposed jury, I have one final thing I want you to consider: this is Wayde Skipper. Wayde Skipper is a delisted utility from from the Western Bulldogs Football Club, but Wayde Skipper lives is training with the Hawthorn Football Club. Now, think about that. That does not make sense!

Why would Hawthorn look at a delisted utility -- an 193cm tall utility who has played one game in two years -- as a solution to their Ruck shortcomings? That does not make sense!

Hey Pomahawk, who's the black dude in your picture? He looks around the same height as Skipper and couldn't do much worse. I say we give him a go.

cloke is the best bet as a mobile ruck he offsets taylor and renouf both being more tap ruckman. Just for the sake of matchups we will go with cloke imo.

the lawyer who got OJ simpson off is Johnnie cochran and if we can find a ruckmen in the draft who can pull off that kind of miracle then we are on to something.

Re: Hawks eye former Bulldog skipper (Article) ...

The wookie defence is'nt holding up. Cloke is useless, which one I hear you ask? In the words of Warney, Cant kick, can't catch, cant goal.
Skipper would be as good a pick as Cloke any day.

I don't like this idea. It's obvious that we're pretty damn desperate at the moment but i'd much rather go for a ruckman that isn't only 193cm tall. I mean, that's just woefully small. I did a little research on the guy and none of it looks promising at all. He's averaged 6.1 hitouts a game for his career and will be 27 in a couple of months. Obviously he's an endurance ruckman but he's only averaged 7 disposals and 2 marks a game. I know that stats aren't everything but i'm just trying to work out what our recruiting staff are doing here.
