Fast forward to Saturday Nights Game Autopsy...

Hawks made a late change before the game bringing in Bruce for Birchall (Clarko thinks he should be right for next weeks game) , Bateman who replaced Suckling looks to have injured his hamstring just after half time.

The Hawks who led at half time by 13 points failed to stop a dominant Riewoldt who kicked 6 goals in a dominant display of power marking helping the Saints to runaway 26 point winners.

Clarko was quick to praise the efforts of Riewoldt saying he was one of the premier forwards of the competition and highlighted what work the Hawks needed to do to bridge the gap between the Hawks and the Saints. He also said "People forget they have been in 3 of the last 4 Grand Finals, they are a quality outfit. We need to look at our structures and work harder". Asked if he ever thought of moving Puopolo off Riewoldt he replied ..."it was a good learning experience for Poppy who will do much better on Mitch Clark next week"

Clarko thought Bruce did an excellent job on Montagna & seemed taken aback when he was told Montagna was sitting in the stands. Tom Murphy did a good job on Milne keeping him to 5 goals. Buddy had a quiet night across half back & doing the kick in duties with Suckling out (who asked to go back to Box Hill). There was a minor scuffle at the start of the third term with 4 Hawthorn players fighting over the red substitute vest but in the end Lewis won out clipping Cheney in the process. Asked if Savage will come up after appearing to break his leg, Clarko said " we will see how he pulls up in the morning and probably still name him giving him as much time as he needs to recover.

Hawthorn 1.8.14 4.13.37 4.18.42 7.20.62
St.Kilda 0.3.3 3.6.24 6.6.42 13.10.88

Hawthorn : Bruce, Franklin, Rioli, Mitchell, Hodge
St.Kilda : Riewoldt, Montagna, McEvoy, Hayes

Hawthorn : Roughead 7
St.Kilda : Riewoldt 6, Milne 5, Wilkes 2

Crowd : 33,657

Umpires : McBurney, McInerney, McChamberlain

LMAO. That was a quality post. The parts about Poppy and Bruce playing on Montagna were particularly good. :thumbsu::D

Does anyone know if we have signed up Smith and Savage...this must be a priority of the HFC this year...our midfield is on the decline and if we loose one / both we would be in BIG trouble...

I'm not going to go berserk and recommend sweeping changes.

In: Birchall
Out: Osborne

Puopolo to jump into Ozzie's shoes forward. Not sure if Gibber will be playing. If not, I suppose Boumann has to come in, since there's no-one else. Apparently Gilham is still some weeks away (rested from BHH).

I'm also wondering if Smurf may make a re-appearance for Cheney. Someone who can be a general and organize the backline, which seemed a bit confused after Gibson went off. Although Hodge was there... (sort of).

Ha ha, was just catching up on the mostly depressing nature of this thread, and was not expecting this gem of a post! Awesome work.

I like the side, I have run out of patience with Hale though, he has been next to useless this year, forward line and in the ruck. He's basically a witches hat for the opposition defenders. McCauley IMO is a better ruckman.

I'd be giving him a go this week before Hale.

What is the scoop on Jack?
Omitted last week but didnt play at Box Hill. Was he rested or dropped? On the BH board they said he had a niggle.
Is he likely to get a recall this week?

My guess is that if Gunston comes in, one of Hale or McCauley must make way. Probably McCauley. Although Clarko will probably keep Hale. Big Mac has been pretty good.
