One thing that still irks is the timing of the contract extensions for Mitchell and others. Many thought the extensions / announcements had something to do with a decision by Cogs. If this is the case, has the decision (sans interference by the AFL) had far wider implications on our list management planning and execution than simply missing out on Cogs?

Or maybe we did those re signings because we knew we weren't getting cogs...

And, more to the point, players and their managers flat out lie. They tell clubs what they want to hear and what they need to hear to serve the player’s/manager’s needs, not the truth.

People at both Carlton and Hawthorn were genuinely led to believe Shiel and Coniglio were keen to join. Players and managers lie.

You won’t get much honesty or transparency from anyone in the AFL system.
The PR spin starts at the top and goes all the way down to the players most of whom are given media training in order to teach them how to avoid saying anything meaningful. Hence the usual plethora of football cliches that drown any useful exchange of information.

You have to learn to read between the lines of any public statements and remember in the great race of life always back self interest because you know it will be trying.
