Yes ....LEWIS at pick 76 wasn't It.
I would personally prefer a Kid who's hundred percent healthy and doesn't have the turning circle of 18 wheeler.
The modern game is full of Speed no room for turtles.

Well I said who should we sign, pretty sure Lewis is on our roster.

Roughy and Schoe are not going to be at the club next year. If we draft another tall forward it will take about 2 years at least to develop them. TOB is starting to break out - but we need depth.

As others have pointed out - Patton’s size would allow for a more balanced forward structure and take pressure and defenders off of Lewis.

He will likely come cheap - a late round pick. You keep whining about speed - he kicked 38 goals in 2016 and 45 goals in 2017. The game was still fairly reliant on speed both of those years.

Again name me one other forward who can offer what Patton does that we could bring over on likely a very cheap trade and minimal salary cap pressure?

Because he hasn't played a whole season.

Next year the only thing stopping him from kicking 40+ is patton.

I am in the give it a go camp for cheap but doubt he will be able to contribute much. Max Bailey type management cant be done now with no sub and reduced interchange.

I doubt it, Patton would command a KPD leaving Lewis to be given the second KPD. Or the the other way around, which is what Lewis is currently dealing with.

If we got Paton and he was fit enough, I would think Lewis would be moved to CHF and TOB permanent backlines. TBH Timmy has looked better down back.

If he came dirt cheap it would be totally worth the risk.

I like TOB down back also and he’s developing into a genuine swingman. That said he’s looked pretty good up forward this year too. He ripped Geelong a few new arseholes and was very solid in shit conditions against GWS. Wouldn’t hate seeing him in the same forward line with Lewis and Patton. We did fairly well with Buddy, Roughy and Hale pinch hitting in the forwards. It would be fun to see opposition defences have to figure out where they send their defenders if we had Lewis, Patton, TOB and Gunston all there.

Lewis looks like a star in the making... he has played in less than 20 games and he will benefit greatly from the addition of Patton.
Along with TOB, Gunston, Breust, Hanrahan, Wingard... that’s a real dangerous attack IMO.

Having a 'good' forward line means nothing if the midfield grunt can't get the ball and kick it directly to them (instead of bombing it long or over their heads etc).

Hoping a fit Wingard + Mitchell + Cogs will go a fair way to sorting that out.

Otherwise, we just need more Worpel

The onus is on Clarko to allow the boys to attack and play some corridor footy, Clarko in his old age has become Ross Lyon like in creating density on the field and playing safe in order to stop oppo scoring. We are so bad at hitting the scoreboard, hard to believe it's our footy club tbh.

Our midfield has been Worpel + JO'M + Shiels.

Is it hard to believe that we've tried to limit oppo scoring because we've not backed ourselves head-to-head against their midfields?

I think that is a large part due to the circumstances we have found ourselves in this year.

Once we are more competitive (hopefully dominant) out of the middle it will allow Clarko to loosen the reigns a little.

I think/hope that the game plan this year has been due to where he thought our list was at. No Mitchell, an under done Wingard, a backline lacking key defence and starting the year without a real key forward target.
I think he’s set some good defensive structures this year and with some quality inclusions in the off season along with the emergence of Lewis, we will see a slightly different/more potent game plan in 2020.

If Carlton give Coniglio a deal at the money they've been throwing around, it will be identical to what happened with Judd. An overestimation of where their list is at that will decimate their list profile and leave them at the bottom of the ladder again. I have no qualms with that being the reason we miss out on a player.

Also, on Patton, he is a better fit with McEvoy than Ceglar is. Patton is a more natural forward and can play the resting and marking forward and occasional ruckman role very well. I don't necessarily think that it will be a full time displacement of Lewis from FF as others do.

Blues fans starting to get pretty loud RE Cogs to them. I can totally see us missing out on him, pulling off another trade for someone we are totally unaware of and getting the most out them for less dollars.
Carlton fans are also claiming they don’t want Clarko and would prefer Teague. Not too worried yet

I disagree, he would be playing the boys to the collective strength for now with what we have, Ross Lyon is a bucket of shite who played the Dickhead Paul Roo's game style.

Clarko has always put a priority on strengthening defensive structures first and then creating attacking football from that.

Last year was very similar... Not having a crack at Clarko, whatever wins us games, just stating some facts. Hopefully with a stronger mid group and another key forward we will see scores increase.

I'm still wondering what our best setup down back is. Would Sicily benefit from being the third tall, allowing him to come off his man and intercept more? Think Brand has proved to be no more than depth but TO could be that second tall.

Pretty hard for them not to get excited with the way the media are playing it up, poor buggers could be in for a bit of heartache.

Totally agree with you if we miss out, we’ll move on quickly just like last year.

We aren’t wildly more defensive than our 2015 premiership team based on squiggle metrics. But we lack the stoppage power and finishing skills to create more scoring opportunities. Clarko always builds the defence first and then implements more attacking play once he is sure the foundation is in place. Be patient. Scoring will come as we get a stronger midfield plus the addition and development of certain structural players.

And it's not just Lewis who benefits from having Patton the the forward line.

Gunston goes back to being a rangey hff rather than a key forward which makes him more a weapon. Also the small forwards will have a big set of feet to crumb off. The need for one hulking big forward is a necessity.

Also if we lose Ceglar then 2MP is perfect as Hale style ruck/forward.

That forward line starts to feel like our 3peat era forward line
