aussies!!!
Saw this on the dogs board and thought it would be a good idea. Who would you like to see at our club and who are you willing to get rid off. I would trade Williams although I'm sure many are divided on this issue.

A trade I would do is William + Little + 2nd round draft pick for Judd. Not sure they would fall for that though.

EDIT - sorry can the mods rename this thread "Hawthorn 2007 trades/Drafting thread" please.

Done - RH

Re: Hawthorn 2007 Drafting thread

I love Juddy, but would reckon that having someone come into the club on the money you would have to give him would destroy the fabric of the playing group (sorry H2F I know I'll hear about it!!!). The player I would love from WCE would be Adam Hunter. He is awesome at both ends. Versatile like Croady, but accurate in front of goals.

As for a trade, I love Willo but for a Hunter i would do what he ^^^ said if they would fall for it...:D

We need a Darren Jarman type, but that's something you just can't buy. If Williams goes Im not buying a membership next year!

Re: Hawthorn 2007 Drafting thread

No dice on that deal, would have to give up more. There's been so many potential trades brough up, with 99% never being close to occuring. Only 1 in 50 players changed clubs last year.

So i think the draft is a more practical thing to talk about. It looks like we will be getting pick about 11-14.

I would like to either get a tall back, or a speedy mid. The elite in these categories are:

Rance - Tall defender
Cotchin, Palmer, Rioli - Speedy mids

Out of those, Cotchin and Palmer will be gone well in the top 10, while Rance and Rioli would be probably 7-14. I'm hoping one of those ive mentioned we pick up.

I wouldnt think ruckmen or inside mids would be needed this early on.

Re: Hawthorn 2007 Drafting thread

Williams won't be traded.

He has an upcoming milestone that will see the Williams name linked with Hawthorn for a long time to come.

You'll understand what I'm talking about in October-November.

Hawthorn will probably trade draft picks and fringe players. We won't be trading key players.

Realistically who would I like to see at our club that is potentially achievable, i'd like darren glass but thats not realistic.

Realistically
- Josh Hunt. He is barely/not even in geelongs best 22 at the moment, has the grunt that would suit the hawks well and has a monster left foot and again would fit in with our team of lefties.
- Adam Hartlett. Hit hard by injuries, does have some promise but is likely to be moved on at the end of the year. Could be a medium term solution to our deficiency in the tall backs department.
- Jamie Charman. There are 14 other clubs that would offer heaven and earth to get him but if we had something that the lions wanted and no one else could offer and a deal could be done he would be the polish on our ruck division which although servicable lacks the class of some of the other top teams, hopefully bailey can help in this department in 2008.
- Ryan Willits. A tall who has imeasurable potential and is now 20/21 but just hasn't been able to break into AFL level.
- David Trotter/ Reilly Dunn. Both top 10 draft picks with massive raps. I know Hawthorn liked the look of Dunn in particular. May be worth a punt after being in the system for a couple of years.
- Luke Jericho. He struggles to crack the 22 at the crows and although we have a plethera of tall fowards, he could be potentially used back as I'm not 100% convinced he is a foward.
- Brad Symes. Burst onto the scene last year, has lost that form this year.
- Justin Sherman. See above. Most people aren't sure where he is really at. Maybe a change would do wonders for him.

We need Adam Goodes. Having him AND buddy Franklin in the same team we would be absolutely unstoppable. If not him, I really want Wocjinski (sp???) from Geelong.

Most notably I think we need a key defender, and a small forward that can put some real defensive pressure on.

Hopefully Willo fills the small forward role, but who can we get for the backline? I don't even know who's available? Josh Hunt could be okay, but there's nobody else I can even think of luring to the club.

Charman and Bailey would be an awesome ruck duo with Robbie Campbell as back up. I see Simon Taylor as trade bait. What would anyone want for him. 3rd rounder? I would do it if we got Charman...

If you compare the teams that are better, and more accomplished finals theam, as a measure of where we are at, then we can identify exactly what we need.

Geelong, West Coast and Sydney, are the teams to reference. The last two, whilst having been crippled with injury's recently, are still a measure because they've had ultimate success, and without the injuries would be genuine premiership threats.

If you use those as measures, then you realise what have, and what we haven't, making rectuiting and drafting far more realistic.

- Ryan Willits. A tall who has imeasurable potential and is now 20/21 but just hasn't been able to break into AFL level.

You have to be kidding. He hasn't been able to break into AFL footy because he isn't any good. Seriously the guy is no good. I've seen him play several times this year and he gets worse each time.

Charman and or Glass in a perfect world

Yes a Jarman type would be lovely.

The rest of your post concerns me - I don't like this "my opinion is more important than the club" attitude. Willo is a very good player but I know for a fact that he has certain off-feild issues to deal with and there are also concerns about his knee, so let's just say... I hope you change your mind.
