Data from footywire. To check the draft order see the thread here.

Footywire says: "While we make every effort to keep up to date with player contracts, it is likely that our data may at times be out of date, incomplete or inaccurate. If you find any player contracts that need updating, please let us know using our brand new contract submission form."

Hawks needs in the 2024 draft in my view are:
no particular order
  • midfielder
  • ruckman
  • KPF
We already have 3 pure rucks on the list and 2 ruck/forwards.

We’d only need another ruck if we trade 1 out.

Yep also a no to a ruck.

1 KPD
2 KPF

Don't think we need a mid with Mackenzie starting to come on and Ward racking up 30 plus in the ressies. Not even taking in to account Hustwaite and McDonald who was a mid in his junior days.
KPD absolute priority to develop over next few years and see how blanck comes on. Harry OFarrell would be perfect. Wouldn’t mind finding a quick genuine right winger as well with a later pick given we missed Darcy Wilson last year but any pick after our first assuming we take it to the draft should be best available. It’s a deep top 30 from what I’ve seen would love to see us take a few picks, Travaglia whilst not a need I think will be a star.

Alot depends on Denver right and how Blanck comes back from injury?

I would think a KPD is a must. Probably a veteran one to fill the gap. Frost is having a great season but will not be there for the contending years. Getting somebody in the 23-26 year old bracket would be the best move which is why I assume you are heavily into Battle.

Not really. He’s probably 5th in line at best for a spot in the backline at the moment.

Sicily
Weddle
Frost
Serong
Phillips
McCabe
Blanck
DGB

We’re in the market for a top line defender to improve our 22, or one like Battle that would allow us to release Weddle or Sicily up the ground.

We've gotta fit McCabe in shortly.
Fitness permitting, he's penned in for a debut in the next month.

Did not think he was that far back.

For sure he would be out the door then I assume.

Seamus Mitchell and Blanck are CAT A rookies.. with DGB, O'Sullivan excluded we're still at 36 (Battle, Barrass & Morrison included)..

We have 37 primary and 7 rookie Cat A excluding our Cat B rookie. We have added another Cat B rookie recently too. Chad retired (primary) and stephens / tucker delisted off rookie list makes it 36 and 6 so at maximum. With Barrass and Battle and 3 picks (at least 1 I expect is a delist and re-rookie scenario) then we need to free at least 4 more spots. If Maginness Serong and Reeves left under trades would have to delist 1-2 more

Let’s say none of those leave

Who are the 5 players to be delisted?

He is right now just in regard to Blanck

But for next year my understanding is he needs to be upgraded to primary list?

I was wrong on Seamus he can do another year rookie

38/6 (include the likely 2 Trade Ins)

I dare say

DGB
Jack Osullivan
Ethan Phillips - Rookie

36/5

Then id say move on Seamus Mitchell, and Scaife (with Gunston and Breust Rookie List)

36/5 today with Morrison, DGB, O'Sullivan, Phillips*, Bennetts (CAT B) without confirmed contracts for '25

Expecting Morrison and Bennetts to stay on, others to be delisted (potential for re-rookie)

Including Battle & Barrass 36/4, which means we need to trade at least 1 player to get down to 35/4 (and have min. 3 list spots open for the draft)

I think we'll upgrade Blanck via the draft and use 2 selections.

2 HFC Trade possibles, Ned Reeves and Sam Frost, both keen to stay and dont wanna move according to

And Harry Morisson chose to re-sign this week as well rather than take more playing time elsewhere.

Speaks volumes about what Mitch and the team are doing at the club, and happy to stay and fight for a spot.

They can smell what he is cooking!

That’s good for us although I wasn’t worried they would want to go. Why would reeves go somewhere new where he is number 2 rather than stay where he is with his mates as number 2? Frost has a baby in the way to stability is key as a dad myself I hope he’s using the interest to get an extra year added he’s a supreme athlete he’s got more than 1 year left. playing like he did this year maybe even more than that! I also think he plays despite adding B2B he’s versatile which is what Sam clearly wants.

Can someone pls explain to me why hawthorn completely traded out of the best draft in 25 years for picks in what looks like an average to poor draft ?

I know exactly why.
They will be chasing Warner next year. :thumbsu:
