Don't really care about the "long term vision". Let's face it, we could have a new 25 year plan with every new President.

All that really matters is what they plan to do during their term to move/keep the club in a healthy position (on and off field, footy and non-footy issues) where it's capable of competing for flags regularly.

The president elect endorses this absolute dumpster fire of a strategic plan which is not surprising as he was one of the directors who signed off the plan…

The absolute shambolic 2018-2022 plan (which failed across every metric) is reason enough for him to step aside.

You still banging on about that?
Strategic plans never factor extraordinary events like Covid into them. They all assume BAU conditions.
The HFC and many thousands of other enterprises all missed their strategic goals for that period.
It was an incredibly tough time.

Gowers currently speaking on 3aw. Interesting to hear others thoughts on the interview.

I applaud his passion however he talks like a supporter not a president.

By 2 flags?

We didn’t even win a final.

Earlier in the same interview, the outgoing president spoke of a decade of success from 2023 and that was in May 2021!

And yet here we are still taking about 20 flags by 2050!

One wonders what 2023-2027 has in store

Thought the same. Lovely guy, and has the footy knowledge. But I'm not sure he has the capability to get Dingley done, and steer us through this First Nation shit show.

I kinda get it. Does Gowers have the proper nous & talent in all aspects you need as a president.

Vs Nankivell who is part of the crew off field that I have lost some faith in..

I’m sure he knows how to delegate to those on the board with the right credentials

He doesn’t need to be the only one to get things done

FWIW, a source I'm pretty close (who does have good ties to the club) to has talked extensively with Gowers on Dingley about his approach should he win the election. He might not know exactly be fully able himself, but he knows the right people to get it done and will be happy to let the experts make the decisions. There's not much more you can ask from a leader than knowing when to defer to those who know more.

There it goes, my one and only insider tidbit.

He’s not running to be a 1 man board.

There’s a reason why boards have 9,10,12 people on them.

I am happy for me and any other Hawthorn supporter to wilfully dream about winning 1 out of every 4 flags. However the board isn't there to daydream it is there to set tangible goals and hit them. If they set a goal of 300,000 members and being the most famous football club in the world would that be okay as well? These are well credentialed, serious adults on the board. I would rather not have them go off on flights of fancy because the end result sounds great.
I would love to see them set 300,000 members as a goal. Why not? The game has enormous appeal to almost everyone I can get to watch even one match with me and international memberships are almost a steal in comparison to even single game tickets for Gridiron, basketball or hockey over here. Don't know why we couldn't set a starting goal of say 30,000 US members by 2025 (though I've no idea how many we have already). Would imagine it's a fair ROI considering the club gets cash for a service primarily provided by a streaming service. The sport is growing here (though not as fast as I'd like). Heck, this year's US GF was attended by Mason Cox and Razor Ray - LOL!

He's probably just as qualified to oversee the Dingley construction as a mergers and acquisitions lawyer and bloke who worked in advertising and did a stint in the army. All leaders delegate - and with Luke Stambolis remaining on the board I dare say it will be a lot of his responsibility.

heres a talk from Gowers:
