After the sooking from Hawthorn after choking in the Prelim Final last year, what excuse do they have today? Given they had everything from the umpires today and still get can't mentally handle the pressure from the Cats.

Surely, they must concede they are mentally fragile in close games?

I didn't realize this was Bay 13.

True Collingwood class showing through.

I'll concede it's a mental thing. We would have won the game except for bad misses in the final quarter. Buddy, Bruest, Roughy and Osbourne all should have been goals, but they weren't and we lost.

As we all know bad kicking is bad football, as Geelong will testify.

Congratulations to Geelong the better side on the day.

A question for the OP. Wasn't last Saturday a close game?

I wouldn't get too upset mate. It's only round 2 and one thing is certain the more we beat you the closer you are coming to winning. In other words we wont beat you forever and if you beat us later in the year it could just be the spark of confidence you need going into the finals.

The Hawks have nothing to be ashamed of from today's game. ;)
If we don't beat you later in the year we may as well go on our end of season trip.

No excuses.

We did have some horrible performances in our team today but we were in a position to win and didn't. Teams who go on to win flags win those games. Collingwood, Carlton and West Coast all would have won from the position Hawthorn were in at 3/4 time.

Hawthorn certainly have the talent to win the premiership but they are currently lacking the mental toughness.

I've been saying that for years.

No excuses from me.

We don't know how to win against quality teams. Pies kicked themselves out of last week and the Cats kicked themselves out of th 08 GF.

It is a mental issue

Clarkson needs to go

Hawthorn need to stop blaming Schoenmakers when Buddy had about 3 chances to win the game and blew them all.

Both teams made mistakes under pressure and I am sure there will be lengthy video reviews by both teams on Monday.

Blaming players for a loss is really the domain of idiots.

difference was Hawkins. He crashed and banged so many times to give geelong some advantage while Buddy kept waiting for give-me-goal-ball-or-not-interested. Did he tried to impose himself in any pack at all today?

People keep praising Buddy/rioli but seriously both of them look a tad selfish to me. Ofcourse Hawthorn fans will disagree but I will be surprised if they don't feel the same at times.

Buddy plays it differently, he keeps his feet and crumbs his own ball. Was pretty good today IHMO. If he kicked one of those goals he would have been a hero.

Their excuse is Ryan Schoenmakers if he doesnt play they probably win

Would be better off without Bateman. Schoey is young and will get better, who do they have readymade to replace him?

To be totally fair to Buddy, he's probably not a natural crash-and-bash forward.

That's maybe where Hawthorn need a fit and firing Roughead up and running.

Same story with the Hawks....they dont have any quality KP defenders.

Hawkins, Pods, Cloke, J.Kennedy even Waite and Hampson will create havoc against them.

They will still be premiership fav's because Cyril is in their team.

Looks like Clarko heading back to the loser's cave, wonder how long it will take to come out this time??

Terrible OP, displaying the class her club is famous for.

No excuses here. Another classic game but were again unable to to take the points. Think our first 2 games are reflective of where we're at overall- have definitely overtaken Collingwood but remain just short of the Cats. :thumbsu:

Luckily we have next week and we don't need to listen to Clarkson and Lewis cry about the narrow loss all summer.

Dunno about 8 but definitely 5 - Varcoe, J Hunt, Scarlett, Menzel (would be in our best 22) and Wojcinski.

Add in that we only had 1 fit ruckman with Simpson, Stephenson and Vardy all out. Also Gillies and Cowan would've been big chances of getting a game today considering our other outs. Unless we get crucified by injuries we should improve from here although I expect other teams to do likewise.

We didn't have 8 first teamers out but we probably had 6 (Varcoe, Wojcinski, Scarlett, Hunt, Menzel, 2nd Ruck) and a number of other depth players. Stoked that we got up despite this.

Best thing about it is the pressure that it keeps on the bottom 5. Stokes and Shagga better be worried.

What's your excuse for failing to score a goal in the last quarter of the 2011 grand final?

You see - we can play that game too.
