What's stopping them with the GF?
That's why it should be a day game
Hawthorn has very few fans close to the city
A lot actually live in the gippsland and Geelong regions
They want more bums on seats, play it during the day
Also is greater chance for some FIFO supporters who live interstate

The Grand Final has been at 2:30pm Melbourne time and will always be at 2:30 Melburne time. I can't see the AFL changing the Grand Final bouncedown time to either a twilight or a night fixture.

In 2012 the AFL switched the Prelims so they could use the Olympic Stadium rather than the SCG
In 2014 the AFL have confirmed Sydney will get the Friday Prelim whether or not the Olympic Stadium is available
At least they are consistent!

I think because in 2012 the AFL knew for sure that they could get the Swans at ANZ on the Friday Night, while right now the AFL doesn't know which day, Friday or Saturday, ANZ would be available (if at all), but need to fixture the Swans on some day, so being 1st they get Friday Night.

In 2012 they justified ground venue more important than date of fixture (even though hawks finished first)
In 2014 it's now the date that's more important than the venue... Probably because the swans finished first!
Considering what happened in 2012, and the same two teams are hosting prelims again, there is no need to give the swans the reward this year they refused to give the hawks in 2012.

They had the same problem last year I believe and were forced to play a double header, it seems that a similar issue will arise this year. Until last year we understood that the NRl had first call in the finals, but last season the AFL got its preferred data. It seems the position is negoitable, and scope remains to shift the match to the SCG apparently if ANZ cant accommodate it.
I wish you were right but I strongly suspect that you will be proven wrong.

Matches that attract big crowds are every bit in the AFLs interest - especiailly during finals - when the AFL reaps all the profits and gate takings. If Richmond make it past next week, it's a big chance of being an arvo game.
Difference is ANZ may be booked for both friday and Saturday this time.
No the afl wants Sydney to have whatever they like. in 2012 swans played at anz on friday when available, this year its going to be available either on the Friday night or not at all- So the Swans are booked for the friday night.
CLEARLY their is some serious corruption going on. Just listen to the Hawthorn supports for once
Yet they asked the swans which they'd prefer (the same as they asked the swans when they wanted the qf)

Agree mate. This push for "prime time" footy at all costs is a nonsense.
The 2:10 or even 2:30 Saturday afternoon time slot is the best in footy.

They couldn't use the SCG last time. Construction had started to get it ready for the cricket over summer. The SCG trust was hardly going to delay construction for two weeks to have the SCG ready for one game. I know you guys like to act like it was all a conspiracy against you, but you could at least get it partially right.
