800k for hanners and 1.3 for shiel? Unless they are expecting to lose Steven , those numbers are so ludicrous that the afl may have to jump in and say wtf???
Saints blues and Norf are a bunch of homeless, loveless pieces of dog shit that would jump in front of a locomotive just to be seen to be relevant. Throwing over 1 million at midfielders outside of Dusty or Josh Kelly is sure way of losing solid A- to B+ players from salary squeeze in the future. Just ask the Swans!

Spot on. Yet you must use a 1st round pick every 4 years.

OK that's worked well for Carlton who have had about 4 every year for the last 10:think:.

Shiel will be getting whatever the damn market dictates, that’s a fact. If the current market states he’s worth 1m a season and we want him, then we are paying him that. We signed Jags and Titch on a reported 700-750k deals 2 years ago, well stiff bickies, salary caps increase and we must pay the money if we want the best players.

Do I think he’s worh it? Nope. Do I think we should pay it to get him? 100%.

People need to understand salary cap is forever increasing, this 1m a season for Shiel is current days 750k in 3 years. Pay it and get him.

If we are going to shell out mega bucks for a player I'd rather wait till next year and throw it all at Coniglio or Kelly. Dylan Shiel is a really good player and has glimpses of awesome BUT Cogs and Kelly are next level elite - they can work both inside and out, have consistency and the presence/leadership to make those around them better. Not sure Shiel has those to be honest. He's all icing - the other two are cake and one or the other coupled with what we have already would make us a contender

Wish I could like that more than once.

When Burgoyne came to the club I think he was only 26 at the time. Wingard is 25 and about to enter the prime or in other words almost at the half way point in his career.

Wingard is a genuine match-winner with the ability to play on the wing, center and as a half forward flanker. He is exactly the kind of player that Clarkson would want to coach.

Getting Wingard and Shiel would be a massive off-season if the club can pull it off. Add a couple of cheap key position forwards and defenders to bolster the key posts and we will be right in next years Premiership race.

I think you'll find we are salary cap rich next season as well.. have to take into account Silk/Ruff/Birch all likely off the books, we can certainly play ball.

Stephens is my guess? They seem to have already guaranteed Hanners a 5 year deal. Shiel ain’t going to a cellar dwelling team, no matter how much they throw at him
If the saints are really offering him 1.3 that would be bloody hard to turn down. I don’t blame him if he’s been offered that amount PA.
He’d have a massive chunk of cash that somewhat fills the void left from signing away the remainder of your career to mediocrity. You’d think hed be having a long, hard think about his options.

Serious question-
Is Shiel an A grader?

I really like his game, and think he’ll be with us next year. In saying this, I think he is only a B+ mid with a chance of being an A grader. He would probably be our 3rd best mid. He will make our mid field automatically stronger although to pay him more than 1 mil a year is irresponsible.
This is why st.kilda are never going to be successful, they just make stupid decisions

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this whole 'trade me before I become a free agent' thing is relatively new. The power is with the player, especially if a loaded salary cap is being held to the club's head. The Saints could offer the world to GWS but if Dylan says, "no thanks, I'd prefer to work at Subway for a living'" then that's that.

I asked my Richmond supporting mates about Callum Moore, who has been mentioned as a possible casualty of the Lynch deal.
They said that he would probably be surplus to requirements with both Riewoldt and Lynch up forward. They're resigned to losing some players to get Lynch. However they agreed that he would be a great pickup as he is a good size and quite athletic.

We could do a lot worse than pick Moore up as a DFA or a trade. Along with Mitch Lewis we could then have two promising young KPD's. He wouldn't cost a lot and along with Shiel and Gaff/Wingard/whoever would make for a magical trade period.

Might be a bridge too far to hope for so much.

It would be in full effect if there was no compo like in US sports. It now depends on where clubs are at. Melbourne were very happy for Frawley to go because they got a really good pick (3 from memory) and GC will likely have the same thoughts about May. If they finish last next year they will get pick 2 so it will be hard for clubs to trade for him this year, whereas if there was no compo they would be desperate to find a deal now. GWS on the other hand are in win now mode and their compo pick would probably be in the teens which isn't nearly as enticing.

Absolutely.

If we land Shiel and C.Moore over the trade period we should be stoked.

In the few times I've seen Callum Moore play I have always been impressed by him. Small sample size though.

I think as the KPF target, rather than as a secondary forward type that he plays at Richmond, he could well flourish.
