Now we have seen the Hawks rack up some good draft picks in the last 5 years, but what have they really shown the football world.

Lance Franklin looks like a player who will do well.
Grant Birchall a very good pick up off the half back line
Jordan Lewis shows he's got something.
Luke Hodge a very good player
Beau Dowler has talent but hasn't shown a thing
Xavier Ellis see above
Zac Dawson out of his depth at AFL level
Clinton Young solid performance first up year
Max Bailey Big expectations on him but won't see him this year
Tim Boyle injuries have cut him down a bit early but hasn't shown a thing yet
Stephen Gillham needs to step up and play more then 4 games
Jarryd Roughead It takes time for kpp but he's performance has been awful so far.
Beau Muston same as Dowler and Ellis

For all the good picks the Hawks have had a lot of players haven't shown their potential yet which would be a concern for the faithful.

Mitchell Thorpe is a good kpp, played VFL football with the Devils should play at some stage this year but too early to rate him yet same with all of last years draft picks.

Presumably rustybugles was referring to Kooley's (a carlton supporter's) response as the one that was a Hawthorn 'typical moronic response'? Because I can't actually see that any Hawthorn supporters have responded to the thread (unless, of course, Kooley is lying about who he supports?). This being the case, I would suggest that rustybugles should have taken a little more care with his response.

A fair and honest analysis. The Hawks fans talk up thier list as if the kids are absolute super stars ( time will tell if they will be or not). This analysis is simply the truth and mabye bring some Hawk supporters back down to earth.

Muston, Ellis & Renouf will go close to selection in Rd 1.

Tuck will also play this year at some stage.

Gilham looks good now that he's put on some weight.

Agree with your Zac comment.

Unsure about Boyle although his preseason form has been encouraging.

Basically the bulk of our rebuilding selections came from the '04, '05 and '06 drafts - I'd give them a couple of years to mature then make the call. The rebuilding is almost complete (ie drafting for position) - just need a bit of development /experimental time now to determine who is best suited to where.

1995 Premiership > Anything your club has achieved since you and your cat mates were born.

Bye bye

Carlton's 1995 premiership >>>>>>>>>> Ben Johnson's 1988 100m win in Seoul:thumbsu: But in the end both parties got caught:(

Didn't realise that BJ won in Seoul. I thought the record books show a Carl Lewis victory.
Just as they show a Blues victory.

Geez you make things easy here.

Bye Bye now!

I guess you've tried to be honest but you've missed the point on a few players.
Ellis - played school football last year, was never going to show anything until this year.
Dowler - was recruited with a broken pelvis, high rated KPP and did a damn fine job to debut late last year considering tha magnitude of his injury and no preseason at all.
Muston - recruited after a knee reco, has X factor and was rated as highly as Deledio was by his Murray Bushrangers coach before injury. Hasn't debuted yet, after spending last year getting his knee right. Looked good in the NAB games.
Lewis - underated youngster.
Franklin/Roughead - KPP youngsters who have shown a bit and are exciting to watch.
Bailey - second only to Sandilands for height in the league, has the determination and guts to make it big. Only 19 years old but if you'd seen any of his work last year at Box Hill you'd give him the thumbs up.
Murphy - Did a job on Whitnall late last year, before getting injured. A semi-KPP, in that he probably has the size but plays a more peripheral role. Cool and smooth in traffic.
Birchall - Runs the lines, good kick, great in traffic, deceptively tall (bigger than Croad). Other palyers look for him already.
Matt Little - James hirds cousin. Kicked the most goals for Box Hill last year, looks liek a likely replacement for Dixon when he retires. deserves a debut.
Tuck - started to really get a move on late last year at Box Hill, he's a Tuck we know they take time. Should debut early this year.

Then you can add , Gary Moss, Jarryd Morton, Mitchell Thorp, Brent Renouf and Josh Kennedy to that list above and perhaps you'll see that we do have some good kids with promise. Don't knock us for being excited about our future. Of course, not every kid will make it, but during the last three drafts Clarkson and Pelchen have selected players based on a model of recruiting and list management that has given our club every chance to rise again.

There is no doubt that a lot of the kids at Hawthorn has promise. Just like how a lot of the kids from other clubs have promise. Catman is basing his analysis on what they have shown in the AFL so far, not on what potential the kids show.

Christ, you are dumb. My whole point was that Ben Johnson won but was disqualified for being a drug cheat - hence Lewis was subsequently awared the medal. In 1995 - Carlton won - and they were discovered to have cheated the salary cap... only difference is they were not stripped of their prize. Understand? Probably not.

Bit unfair on dowler muston ellis since they havent even played since school/injuries

wont see much of thorpe since hes having surgery, 8 weeks minimum
Roughead is hot and cold, expect that from a KPP

Lewis-is actually fit this year unlike last year, should do much better

To be fair it's not just some Hawthorn supporters, it's a very sycophantic media as well. They've become like St.Kilda - get a few very high draft picks and the premierships are just pencilled in.

There's no doubt some of the kids they've got look pretty good, and (like all teams) just as many are totally unproven. Time will tell.

Roughy is the one really high pick whos probably not coming along as well as wed like, but still has got time on his side.Seems to almost take alot of marks but juz doesnt hold on.Nearly all of last years picks are basically 1st year players this year apart from Birch whos been as good as anyone from that draft and he was pick 14.So its true only buddy ,lewis and birch have shown they can really play consistently, however almost all our kids have shown something.
