Spot on BB....You expect and forgive comments like that from Vic or interstate supporters who dont get to see low profile players like Glass up close like us in the West, but when someone from WA comments that he is a hack then you realise that they are narrow minded and really have no idea about footy.

By Crikey you guys are touchy. I've pretty much just credited Woosha and co with turning a bunch of players most thought were not really filling the void into a top notch group of players that will serve the Toasters well for years to come - AND I GET HECKLED FOR IT!!!!!

The nobodys was a compliment in the same way we at Freo are proud of our "no-name defence".

Crikey, way to take a compliment.

They win one game and the losers get carried away.

BULLDOGS - AFL BEGGARS who only survive on the money well managed clubs like the WCE pump into the coffers.

Robin Hood is not, and has never been, a bulldogs suporter. From a quick check I cant even see that he has ever even posted on the bulldogs board. He is a Geelong fan, I have no idea why he is claiming us as his team you would have to ask him about that.

Hay has apparently signed a contract for 2 years to play for Hawthorn.

He says now he wants to go home to WA and will quit if no suitable deal with Weagles/Freo can be done.

This allows Weagles/Freo to hold Hawthorn to ransom or Hawthorn will get nothing.

My tip, 2nd round pick for Hay to Freo.

Regardless of Mr Q's ignorant comments about trades to Freo (mind you he probably thinks Chick has played well at WCE).... a rnd 2 pick for hay is hardly holding them to ransom.

Nothing above Freo's last pick in the draft.

Hay >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Glass/Haddrill

Morons.

Hay was AA at the same age as Glass and Haddrill. Even in an injury interrupted year Stacks has beaten the likes of Tredrea and Rocca -> Glass has done sfa.

Chick has played very well for the eagles (that is when he's actually gotten on the park and hasn't been injured ;) )

If Hay is in the same boat as Chick, then yes- eg, coming home no matter what, then West Coast would definitely have a look at him. He's a class player, and although our defence has been outstanding and Glass has arguably been a top 2 in the comp FB since midway through the year, it would only take one injury to send that spiralling away and put us back to the bad old days of Trent Carroll at FB.

Both WA teams have very handy defensive sixes, the big difference being that Fremantle have substantially more kpp depth, with Polak to back up McPharlin and Thornton looking extremely promising behind Hadrill. If Glass copped a serious injury at the moment, we'd be fuggered.

I think that puts us in the box seat to go after Hay, because Fremantle are gong to be chasing midfielders at season end, and a Stenglein or a Carr will be of far more value to them than an addition to their stable of key defenders.

He'd need to come cheap though, because with a young team of top prospects, we aren't going to have a lot of salary cap space to play with- Judd's next contract is going to be a doozy, but the likes of McDougall, Hansen, Seaby, Sampi and co are all going to be asking for pay rises. He'd have to come on a performance based contract and probably a decent sized paycut, and if he isn't happy with that then I guess he's going to be stuck in Melbourne.

I'd take him both for the added depth and try and get him to play as more of a creative CHB type, to free up Lynch to go forward. Hawk fans, can he play CHB?

I've been told by the previous CEO and the current football manager that Jon Hay signed a 2 year deal earlier in the season. Just why he wants to be traded after signing a new contract a few months earlier is perplexing to say the least.

I'll wait to hear it from his own mouth before believing it - only 10 reported it.

His trade value is hard to determine - gun player when fit and firing, but he hasn't been for 3 years. Daniel Chick and Trent Croad were traded for 1st round picks, I suspect a WA club would have to do the same to get him.

If he has signed a new deal then Hawthorn hold all the cards. If not we might see another McPharlin situation (and our football manager is a liar).

Don't really want to lose him, and I hoping it's a load of bulltish. But if he doesn't want to play for the club stuff him.

Utterly owning Lloyd, Neitz, Fevola = sfa?

Not sure of his versatility. Could possibly play in other positions, but only if his confidence is right up, because that's the key with him - everything has to be going right.

The best game I ever saw him play was in the midfield on Kouta in 2001, absolutely flogged him, had about 25 touches and kicked 2 goals. But he has hardly ever been played anywhere but defence.

Well there is your problem.... West Coast's first round pick will probably be used on Tyson Steinglein as Steinglein has already made it known he only wants to come back to the Eagles and doesnt want to go to the Dockers.... that means at best you will get a 2nd round pick for Hay from us... as our 3rd round is used for the father son to get Mitchell Morton who would have gone top 5 in the draft anyway :D :D :D

Fremantle on the other hand.... their only strength is their backline and i cant see them having a need for Jon Hay. They would also want to keep their 1st round draft pick to get someone decent. I believe Hay is also friends with alot of the Eagles... so another reason he would want to go to the Eagles.

The Hawks might find themselves in the unfortunate position of losing Hay for almost nothing because neither club has much to offer.

i would take hay, and pay a pretty good price for him. would consider giving up our first round pick for him. i cant understand people writing him off. aslong as his knee stands up to the tests we will give it if this eventuates, i would gladly take him.

If it is true that he's desperate to go home and Fremantle aren't in the market, (and lord knows, 9/10 these sort of reports are utter shyte) then i think our first up offer would be something like- Paul Johnson + 2nd Rounder- decent victorian tall forward prospect which I dare say Hawthorn could do with.

Gee I can't help but think that if this is true, the Hawks are going to be pretty leery of drafting Lance Franklin this year- McPharlin, Chick and now Hay make it a pretty bad run with the sandgropers..

In that case, i'd happily ship the bastard off to Richmond.

People selling Hay very short in this thread. Suggesting Glass is a betetr fullback is just absurd. Like suggesting David Hille is a better ruckman that Gardiner because Gardiner keeps getting injured.

I would be disgusted with Jon Hay if he walked out on us now after we paid him handsomly to sit on the sidelines for three years. Rawlings and Chick have been forgiven. Hay, like McMummy's Boy, will not be.

If, and only if, we have no choice but to trade Hay, I'd take that deal. 2nd round pick is OK, and Paul Johnson is the type of player we could do with - backup ruckman who can go forward. Bit slow and injury prone, but he can play.

Tell me about it - no doubt part of it is the club - Hawthorn is rotten to the core at the moment. But I'm getting a bit tired of WA boys running home.

Personally I would have thought Deledio, Griffen and Tambling are all ahead of Franklin anyway.

You really havent seen a game this year Glass has played have you? He is one of the form fullbacks in the competition. He offers something Hay doesn't.. he is strong. I have absolutely no doubt Hay will come back and be a great player still.... it takes 2 years for a player to come back properly from a knee injury... look at Chad Morrison who is only now starting to come back into some form..... but Glass is nowhere near as bad as you make him out. He is currently probably in the top 2 full backs in the competition at the moment.

There is a common denominator here. Hawthorn. How many Victorians/Sth Australians have the Eagles lost that have wanted to go home? None. Fraser Gehrig was the only one... but that was more a case of the club thinking it was in his best interests. We have been able to hold onto the kids like Judd because we have built a fantastic club to be at. Hawthorn obviously is struggling in this area.

PJ + 2nd Rounder for Hay.
Excellent, done deal. I'll get on the blower to Trev Nisbett, and fax the papers through ;)

We would consider it i would think. We are desperate for defenders and if we can get one for free that does the job why the hell not

I can't believe some of the garbage some people are saying at how low Hay is worth, i have heard people more then willing to give up 1st rd pick to players that are almost finished, and older (e.g. Primus), Hay is anything but finished, he is a AA, about to come into his prime, yet he is only worth a 2nd rounder or less? considering this coming draft is weak (by all talks) with potientially 3 PP, a 1st rounder is more then justified, or a player of note.

Add to that he is a KPP and a darn good one at that!
