Re: Stevie J...interesting with Ballantyne.

Mind you, the form Scarlett was in maybe we're better off without him next week. He was garbage.

That was surprising for mine. Last two games Freo have played at Subi against Geelong Scarlett hasn't played and I thought it helped us. So as a result I was worried about his influence tonight. As it turned out, he was close to worst on ground.

Re: Stevie J...interesting with Ballantyne.

It's the diving that people don't like and the niggle that they do. It's the niggle that some of us are enjoying about Ballantyne, great to watch when you are a neutral.

Want kind of niggle? The same as Baker did to SJ? Can't say I enjoy that type of niggling at all really....And if true that Ballantyne really is a nut lover, well he will be tarred with the same brush...

Re: Stevie J...interesting with Ballantyne.

If Ballantyne poked stevie during the game stevie would have been on the ground, doubled over in pain.

If anyone poked Didak during a game Didak would have been on the ground, doubled over in pain.

Thats fine. I wasn't trying to justify it, was just trying to point out why some of us like Ballantyne.

It's not because he dives, it's because he's so good at sucking the opp in.

Re: Stevie J...interesting with Ballantyne.

He was just asking what that blob was in the middle of freo's jumper. Would like to know the answer too.

Re: Stevie J...interesting with Ballantyne.

It helps that there was no reason to be down in the first place. Johnson, in comparison, plays for the occasional free. Ballantyne plays dead after punching you in the nuts.

But I suppose I have a begrudging regard for Ballantyne - maybe because his acting is so outrageous. Scarlett gave him a nice little whack, but you'd have thought Ballantyne was shot. Something seems wrong there - he's like the kid in the playground who trips you up and then claims you broke his foot. A whinging sniper. Not a good combination.

We can never reveal our sources on here to the full satisfaction of others - but there is a sense among some AFL players that he seriously knows how to cross the line in ways that most find outside the game. Still, he doesn't get caught, so what can you do?

Oh yeah, you can punch the ****er.

interesting comments.. watching the game, and supporting anyone but freo always (neutral?),i was wondering the same-that he must really cross the line,as he seems to get up everyones nose across the AFL..love to know what he says..but he's just that annoying little prat-sh*t from school..as a supporter of fairplay and sportsmanship, this season i hope someone rips his head off and kicks a super goal with it..seriously.:rolleyes:

It's not the same type as Baker on SJ.

Ballantyne sledges and does very annoying niggles- but he does it a lot and some people like Scarlett get suckered in.

Re: Stevie J...interesting with Ballantyne.

I'm not going to contribute anything to this thread apart from this...I ****ing hate that commentators and fans incessantly use the nickname "Stevie J" for Steve Johnson.
Yeah is he the only player that gets that bullshit treatment?

Re: Stevie J...interesting with Ballantyne.

Ballantyne had a good game, mission accomplished with flying colours for him.

Don't go try caling him tough though, he's far from it. He does what's required of an afl player, but as far as in comparison to other players, no he's not.

As for the incident I don't think there's any malice involved, unless of course something did happen off the ball with chapman, a siren sounding doesn't mean sj all of a sudden has to be polite?

Re: Stevie J...interesting with Ballantyne.

You lot have an interesting idea of what is considered tough, or hard.

This little guy got beaten from pillar to post by the Cats and just kept getting back up. He talks trash and scrags a bit (a lot) but he takes his lumps every single time and keeps going. Go have a squiz at how quick he got up after that big bump somewhere around the second quarter or so.

Yes, he was on the recieving end of a number of genuinely hard knocks tonight, but got up each time and just kept going.

That would be the logo of the Starlight Foundation, in honour of which Freo's first home fixture is always played (Purple Haze Game).

Re: Stevie J...interesting with Ballantyne.

Absolutely.

Also somebody should make a youtube dives compilation of the late 2000's and see what it turns up

Re: Stevie J...interesting with Ballantyne.

I actually really like Ballantyne. He is exactly what you want in a small forward.

Also the only current player to have a wing named after him in a current AFL/NAB Cup ground. :thumbsu:
Thats because his grandmother won lotto and pumped a heap of money into peel thunder.

Re: Stevie J...interesting with Ballantyne.

Enjoyed Ballantyne's disappearing acts when Baker matched up on the shitstirring little prick, he couldn't buy a touch unless the umps gave him a free for staging.

If he thinks he will get it easy now that Baker has retired we still have Dempster and Geary to take care of him. Can't wait for Rd 4 at Etihad.

Re: Stevie J...interesting with Ballantyne.
