Heavy training loads to prepare for finals

Is tapering practised in elite sporting competitions?
Does it explain Sydney and Carltons last few weeks?

Swans highly likely.

Blues were a bit more precarious on the ladder and seem to have had ongoing defensive issues. It's a bit tougher to tell with them. I have been wondering all season whether they might have a bit up their sleeve that would see them rise late season, but they would want to start showing it very soon or they will miss top 4.

Would they be loading now or de-loading? You’d want to be throw any de-load periid coming into finals, wouldn’t you?
With a pre-finals bye, and potentially another week off for teams that finish top four (if they win their qualifying final), maybe not. Maybe some teams don't taper off again until very late because there will be a low match load coming up.
Or maybe the whole theory is a load of bollocks.

Agree, I don't think the Blues are doing any sort of extras compared to normal. Think we're just out of form right now and missing a couple of players who had been playing well enough to paper over some of the cracks that had been appearing.

I see no evidence we have done any training lately

You would do it if you are guaranteed top 2 spots this far out

Which Sydney are not , we just played poorly and faced an opponent who was playing great footy and didn't allow us any latitude .

At least against your mob we were competitive and fought. But this game was abysmal. Training loads may explain say the Dogs running away with a game , but we didn't even play the first minute well.

There's no excuses the opponent killed Sydney.
