Hi all.

Does anyone know where you go on the AFL website to become an international subscriber? I've been to this page http://afl.com.au/VideoAudio/InternationalSubscriptions/tabid/9476/Default.aspx which says "check out the links below". Helloo, AFL, there are no bloody links! Except the generic ones at the bottom and advertising!

Anyway, I sent an email to the AFL last week and have heard zip in reply. So I was wondering if anyone else had been through this?

At this rate I'm going to say "stuff you" to the AFL, and start looking for torrent sites instead. :( Why the hell did the AFL have to go and screw BomberTV over, if they're not even going to show you how the hell to subscribe to their own website?

I subscribed in 2006. Total waste of money. The quality is ridiculously poor and the constant time outs were a disgrace.

I sent the AFL and Telstra a bunch of semi abusive letters regarding their sites and more precisely their streaming video. There is NO possible way you can watch video from their site as the setup just doesnt allow it. Okay maybe if you live next door to the computer hosting it and have a direct T1 connection to the machine but anything short of this and you have no chance.

You are better off waiting 24 hours for a HD torrent to become available and download that.

Certain countries, USA, CA, UK, etc. will broadcast AFL if you look hard enough, where are you living?

Again I suggest Torrents. The AFL/Telstra had a go at one prominent torrent site and I nearly went postal about it. The fact of the matter is if they provided a service to watch the games then we wouldnt need torrents, sadly though they charge you the money, give you nothing then complain when we look elsewhere. Typical ****wit reaction from a shithouse company. It really annoys me how they can cry foul and get the lawyers involved to threaten a torrent site yet when I asked for some explanation as to why I paid (good hard earned dollars) for a service they refused to provide I get nowhere.

As a bigpond cable customer i get it for free but it is a bloody disgrace. It amazes me that an IT/Telco company could put together such a terrible. It is almost like someone has set up a site to show others how not to do it

I had so much trouble last year with the vids section. Problems when overseas last year and wanted to listen to games. In fact i found 75% of the time i just went to the home page my browser would freak out and jam up coz they have so much applet /java BS running.

I hope it has improved this year. I know that they copped grief in the mainstream media as well so it's not like they aren't aware, it's just they don't give a ****. Clearly Vlad doesn't either otherwise he'd do something about it.

Just don't bother.

Some guy in Sydney was just streaming his Channel 10 onto the net last year and it was much, much better than anything from AFL / Bigpond.

I connected my laptop to the TV and watched the Saints - Swans game live in Switzerland without any buffering or interruption.

You couldn't do that for a minute on Bigpond

It's a proper disgrace when the illegal option provides a significantly better service than one you pay for. If you want to watch AFL overseas the only option IMO is the torrent downloads.

Thanks for all the advice.

Sounds like I'll cop less grief and hassle going via the illegal route. Given how little in pounds $60 Australian is, thats an amazing indictment on the AFL/Telstra service.

I'm on Optus cable but just use my mates Bigpond login details.... Streamed fine, quality was passable but ate up quite a bit of my usage tho

It costs AU$60 for an International subscription???
If you did want to go through the paying method instead of torrents, just sign up for a Bigpond dialup account casual plan $25/yr or use your mates login details like I do :D

Link me too please! I had footyfreak's experience last year. you can find various opinions of mine about that particular service scattered about the 150 page afl.com.au is shaisen thread which pops up every now and again whenever some poor soul encounters their latest problem.

Anyway, I live in NYC and am looking forward to watching the Dees v Catties NAB cup game at 2AM on Sunday. Good times!

I'm in the US. Switched to torrents last year out of pure frustration with the AFL subscription that I'd had for the couple of years before that.
I am (was) happy to pay to watch the footy, but fair's fair - what bigpond provided was disgraceful.

This year I switched to directTV, with Setanta sports (Irish channel with the AFL rights in the US). They have live games plus replays so if you're in the US I'd say that's the best option for now. Torrents are all well and good, but you just cant go past watching the footy live - even if it is at 3am :)

There is a program called Sopcast. You can watch stations from around the world if someone uploads it.

Channel 10 was appearing there for part of last year but it seems to have disappeared.

Still very good for watching EPL if you're into that sort of thing.

Just google Sopcast.

Yep, that's the way I went too. The bigpond site is an absolute shocker and I just gave up on it last year. It used to drive me crazy with all the buffering and craphouse quality.

Can't wait til Setanta are broadcasting all games each week, as they are contracted to do by 2011 (or something like that).
