Yeah look if your team was in the dumps like we were then you'd be saying the same shit as well. Luckily for you, the lowest your team has ever finished is 12th.

It's basically going to be as high as 1 or as low as 18. But hypothetically, if Geelong's first pick in 2016 is pick 10, can they trade that in another deal or is that solely for Henderson?
No, they can't trade it again... It now belongs to Carlton

I guess the only way to tell what he is worth is by how he performs next year. Geelong are just hoping he does not spud it, and I bet they've told him that in no uncertain terms - 'We've put out our first selection for so pull your weight and get back to your 2013 form'.

They can no longer trade it - they don't own it any more!! If it's pick 1, tough t***ies. Presumably it is an asset that Carlton can trade to another team before the 2016 draft if they wanted to.

Geelong has been quite risky recently with list management, not sure if it's all going to pay off.

With Hendo, we did pay overs but we need to replace our ageing back line which we've done with Hendo and Kolo coming in to replace Rivers and Lonnergan. We failed to get Frawley so we needed to 100% sure this yeah we get our man.

Draft picks are never a sure thing ould get a good player could end up picking a lemon. Geelong have the slight advantage of knowing hendos best and also his worst. Will be a long time before we can truly judge the winner of this deal.

Good for us, can't see Cats making the 8, add to that Richmond giving us a first rounder for Yarran. So it looks like we'll have pick 1 (we'll get the spoon again). Pick 2 (compo pick for our successful tanking). Pick 8 and pick 12... Things are looking good for the Blues!
Yeah reminds me of how good things were looking when you got kruezer, Murphy and Gibbs. Draft picks are worth f all if you can't use them properly

Wonder if we'll start seeing "conditional" trades of draft picks.

ie Geelong will trade their first rounder if they finish lower than 10th, or their second rounder if they finish higher than 9th...

Or "if player x plays so many games, we will trade our first, otherwise it is our second."

It is somewhat risky, but in some ways, less risky than the draft. Wells has the reputation to turn the club around with picks, so it's interesting that Geelong have moved heavily into the trading market at this time - does he know something that others dont ?

For mine, while Dangerfield is a gun, Selwood is a mid range player and Henderson a fair KPP, but not great. So if you were to get an injury to a gun from this year (Selwood, Duncan, Hawkins) , Geelong could essentially tread water next year - but in future years lack the picks/young players coming through to regenerate the list....

Interesting strategy...

Why so defensive, are you concerned he might be right?

No, just sick of people speculating on things they couldn't possibly know.

If he had said "They might finish 6-10" instead of "they will finish 6-10", I'd have been ok with it. Stating things that haven't happened yet as fact is just trolling.

Isn't it obvious it is opinion though if it hasn't happened yet? Does everything have to be prefaced with "in my opinion"?

We have arguably the deepest key forward and back stocks in the league now, not to mention a pretty handy/deep midfield, not sure one injury would ruin us.

KPF: Hawkins, Clark, Stanley, Vardy, Walker, Kersten
KPD: Taylor, Lonergan, Henderson, Kolodjashni
Mids: Selwood, Danger, Blicavs, Duncan, Guthrie, Motlop, Caddy, Selwood

Potentially the stocks are there - although you can't play all of them at once.

But lets look deeper.

Lonergan is probably approaching his last year. Vardy is perenially injured, as is Clark. Stanley isn't a forward, never has been. Walker and Kersten are good depth and will keep players honest, but not superstars. Only Clark (if fit) could replace Hawkins if injured.

Your midfield bats deep, even before Danger coming in.

But realistically, you've added the three players mentioned earlier (Danger, Selwood, Henderson), yet finished 10th with the rest of the list you put up ??

So you had the deepest forward stocks in the league last year (based on your statement above), but still finished 10th ? That indicates they either aren't performing, or they aren't up to it, or they aren't getting the supply. Danger will certainly help getting the ball into F50 (although he does have a tendency to hit and hope). Henderson replaces Rivers and Selwood nudges out a kid from the 22 - which doesn't help future success.

I can see you rising, (particularly if Menzel stays fit for you, the kids a gun) even to just outside the top 4 - but if you were to lose a J Selwood, then Danger replaces him and you've effectively maintained the staus quo with this year - which saw you finish 10th.... And if Selwood, Henderson and Danger (the last one understandably) push kids out of the side, are more players going to leave ?

I didn't say you would finish last with this list and I can understand trading out of this years draft, but next year might have been a good year to restock on the kids if you did slide a little down the ladder...
