If the porp is your biggest problem your going very well!!

If he isn't look to upgrade your big weaknesses first
im waiting on houli and ellis to make me a bit more cash before i upgrade them. i just wanted the roo this week he is at a good price and he is up againist the tigers. iv only got 14 trades left. panic

Murphy has been awesome but i think most people in hear would have doubted if he could stay on the park all year, i dont think anyone would question his ability to use the footy and score supercoach points.

Personally i had to chose two of Porp/Burton/Didak/Murphy i chose Porp and Burton and am not to disappointed at all.

but weel done on the Murphy choice

lol cheers yeah i guess ya right. but yeah the burton porplyzia choice hasnt turned out bad either

I've gone up in ranking every week so my advice here is moderately well founded, take that as you will.

Lessons learned/observed:

1. Do not get the really expensive guns straight up.

Why? Because the best you can hope from them is that they perform just as well this year. On the other hand if they do not then you will be stuck with an overpriced player who will go down in value or need to be changed out. Or you will get a player who goes down in value, is picked up by others for cheap, and then be down on value compared to those other players.

Example:

I haven't got Cornes this year and so some people have outscored me with him, on the other hand if I do get him I won't be paying more than those who had him from the start, and I will very likely be paying less if I pick the right time.

I haven't got Bowden either, and so I have missed out on issues with him too.

Basically: Unless you have great reason to believe the star player will perform from the get go then hold off. You can always get them later; chances are they won't go up in value and stay there. Even Ablett will come down to around his start value at some point.

This is ESPECIALLY true for genuine forwards as they have a greater fluctuation than other positions and will nearly always lose value at some point and be able to be picked up.

2. Don't get players you haven't seen play or don't rate simply because they scored well in a practice game or last season.

Why? Because, with the exception of key defenders and taggers, class player will always score when fit and firing. Other players will only score if they play the same role as the last year, if the class players give them the ball, and so on. You are always a safer bet that someone who knows how to get the ball will keep getting it in the next year rather than hope that some hack from a side that over-uses it is going to continue getting it.

Example: McPhee

Players can have a lucky game here or there, and unless you see that game yourself you won't really be able to judge if they can keep it up. So don't just guess about new players based on some stats other people have told you.

Examples: Proud, Tippet (Honestly, anyone watching him play would have been able to tell that he's not going to score that well unless he gets lucky)

3. Do get players you rate.

Class will out.

4. Do get younger players.

Players generally improve as they get older, up to a certain point.

5. Don't get expensive young players unless they've have several good years.

If a players breakout year was the previous one make sure you have great reasons for getting them again.

6. Do take risks with cheap players who had injuries the previous season.

7. Do spend at least a couple of trades chasing cash cows if you don't have enough.

8. Get ball players all over the ground if you can.

Ball player are more consistent than key positions, especially in the forward line, and average higher.

9. Players available in multiple positions should be picked in this order: Ruck, Forward, Defense, Midfield.

There are fewer high scoring rucks than forwards, fewer forwards than defenders, and an abundance of midfielders. Therefore don't pick a player for the midfield if you can get them elsewhere on the ground.

10. Get fewer rookies in your backline and ruck positions than in the forwards and midfield.

There are fewer decent scoring options available in these areas.

That'll do I think. I have to keep some ideas to myself.

Not that it makes any differance but Cornes got 1 week at AFL Tribunal.
He is not a silly man is he:p Could have taken a reprimand & had 93 pts carried over to his next report.
Decided to contest it & gets 1 week penalty which he is already out inj. for anyway & only has 25pts carried over for next time.;):D

The Chad isn't just a pretty face.

I don't necessarily disagree, lamaros...but playing devil's advocate...

I think you're being a bit harsh on McPhee. Trying to play CHF with Lucas missing. I think you'd consider yourself stiff if you had him from the start, given he's av'd over 90 in 2 of the last 3 years.

You're being really harsh on Tippett!! A first year player av'ing over 50 with just one game <45.
Has kicked multiple goals in half the games and would be taking 1-2 contested marks a game.
More than happy I've got him as the 7th/8th forward.

Ball player are more consistent than key positions, especially in the forward line, and average higher.

Bradshaw, Richo, Franklin, Pav, Murphy, Riewoldt in top 11 forwards...
(Burton, Waite, Hall and Roughead not far behind!)

And I hear what you're saying about not having "GUNS" from the start, but remember it is still about the points...
...sure, you might get Pav/Cornes/whoever cheaper down the track, but as you said yourself, they've still scored more than just about everyone else (forget injuries, they're random) so you are still 2-3-400 points down that you won't catch up with the guns, because everyone else still has them!
(Obviously that's where it depends on which mid-range players you've got...)

thinking, its time for symes to get the boot,

with cornes out, i wanna add some strength 2 backline,

i have many choices...symes out for:
Kennelly
Gilbee
P.Burgoyne
S.Fisher

Then next week i have plans to drop bird or houli for one of the 4 yound midfielders who have played this week, then up grade my 7th backman(pfieffer) to another of the above 4.

then my 7th bakman will be mattner, will look good ay?

So wat do you think, symes out? and 4 who?

Kennelly, had a shit game on the w/e and still got 119.

Is this a silly move?

I have Bradshaw and S.Thompson. Now if S.Thompson gets a few games reaches say $300K and Bradshaw reaches say $550K. I'm thinking of a double trade.

Bradshaw ---> Downgrade to Milburn
S.Thompson --> Upgrade to Gilbee

Although I'm pretty happy with Bradshaw, I don't think Bradshaw is worth $550K over the year.

The question is really is Bradshaw a keeper?

Can I have some help please boys on this dilemma I have.

I'm looking to trade in 2 cash cows,

OPTION 1= Barlow for Ibbotson (213k) and Callan ( I believe he's peaked) for either-

Mitchell
Chapman
Bateman
Pendelbury

OR

OPTION 2= Barlow for Wona (192k) and Callan for either

Power
Kornes
Cooney
Deledio

I'm coming 1,700 in the comp and want to get under 500 to win a bet I've made with a mate!

Looking for your opinions PLEASE!

...But he also eliminates his chances of winning the brownlow. Stupid, if you ask me.

if option 1, i wuld go chappy! he will be the highest scorer at the end of the yr(outta those 4)

if option 2, i wuld go Kornes.....pure gun,

but prob wuld go option 1, coz wen grimes is fit, theres no more won! so u wil prob only gain 100K from won....ibbotson will get you 100k+ aswell as the money you get with ur trade down to ibbotson

btw im tryion 4 same as u!...im 1,240 or somethin and all i want is top 500

Like your thoughts.

I was impressed with Ibbo.

Tricky, and also fairly sideways... If I had to pick, I would go Ibbot.

However, have you considered going cheaper? freeing up more cash.

Maybe even trading down in the midfield and upgrading Barlow? Shaw and Milburne will be bottoming out next week, and Lake has been smashing it for the last few weeks...

I guess it depends, I assume you're going to have Ibbot on the field, with no-one to replace him? what about Callan? he's on the field, but do yyou have anyone to replace him if you did upgrade the backline?

Would anyone consider picking up Bock at this stage?

Was very inconsistent last year, but appears to have turned things around?

Considering Fisher & Gilbee also around the same price range, would Bock be worth it?

Also Bock is on way up, where as Gilbee and Fisher still on way down.

Thoughts on Bock?

In the backline I've got Brown on the bench and Barlow starting.
On the centreline I've got Callan and Palmer as my last 2 midfielders that are starting and Bird coming off the bench.
