Hello Qooty enthusiasts,

In one week's time, Heritage Round - Season 36 will begin. For those who have not experienced one before, this is a round where we celebrate and pay tribute to the history of the Sweet FA. The history of clubs, events, and individuals.

Throughout the 36 seasons and 23 years that the Sweet FA has existed, there have been many great individuals who have come and gone and made the league what it is today. And next week we will be celebrating that with a special event.

During this week, THREE generational teams will be drafted to compete in a round-robin exhibition tournament representing the greatest personas and contributors across three distinct eras in the league. The players will be selected via a Legends Draft and the draft pool will be divided by rookie classes accordingly:
  • Rookie Classes S1-12
  • Rookie Classes S13-24
  • Rookie Classes S25-36

The Selectors of the Three Teams

Rookie Classes S1-12
Making the draft selections for those debuting between Seasons 1 to 12 will the Hall of Fame pairing of Dingster and Headless.

Dingster is one of the most venerated members of the Sweet FA community, he is not only officially the league's most handsome man, he is a prolific recruiter bringing in many new faces to the competition, has won multiple premierships, a veteran simmer, a litany of accolades and has been around since the foundational years of the league debuting in Season 3.

Headless joined the Sweet FA in Season 7, but has spent the majority of the past 10 seasons being a non-contributor who sits on his arse, yet has managed to win the Beez in recordbreaking manner and get inducted into the Hall of Fame. He's won 3 premierships, he is the Demons' games record-holder and a man who inevitably prevails.

Rookie Classes S13-24
Selecting the best of those who came to the Sweet FA between Season 13 and 24 will be the Hall of Fame, co-captains of the legendary Season 30 Gold City Royals - indisputably the greatest premiership team in the league's history - The Filth Wizard and myself Kennedy Parker.

The Filth Wizard is an icon of the league who came in with the Season 16 crop, ultimately becoming a legend with more All-SFA selections than anybody else, captained two clubs to their first ever premierships and the architect of the Season 19 Dragons' New World Order. An earth-shattering event that shifted the paradigm of the league forever. Not to mention the first player to ever win two Beez Trophies in Season 17 and then again in Season 24 along with an admin run in between where he pioneered tour games, introduced restricted free agency and oversaw a boom period in Sweet FA participation.

Kennedy Parker debuted in Season 20, KP has done it all the league. From spamming rookie to respected statskeeper, to moderator to admin to the league's biggest campaigner to admin again. KP is a visionary leader who is responsible for many of the institutions that are fixtures of the SFA today, the empowerment of the committee, the official tribunal structure, the revival of State of Origin, the promotion of Heritage Round and reform of the Hall of Fame process.

Rookie Classes S25-36
The selectors to represent the new(er) generation are none other than the Season 29 pairing of serial_thrilla and Tonga Bob . Two captains, prestigious award winners, and absolute superstars of the current day.

Serial_Thrilla, the Season 29 EKA winner who also happens to be a Dragons premiership captain, a Frankston Rover Award winner for his power of work in gathering Serial_Stats prior to the SFA+ days and a prolific poster managing to impressively be runner-up in the Beez three consecutive seasons. He is also well known for turning the Sweet FA rules thread into his personal Phoenix Wright Gameplay session.

Tonga Bob , the Season 29 EKA runner-up who is the current captain of the Coney Island Warriors and the reigning Beez Trophy winner. Bob represents pure class as a poster, his 'Know Your Opponents' series proving a great hit and Bob's Stats a league staple in the media scene. Bob is also a famed enjoyer of the arts and the shoops - creating the McInnes Prize to encourage all those who have a talent for the photoshop.

At the start of next week, the Match Thread OPs will be opened with the high calibre work of TheInjuryFactory who will also put together Heritage Kit designs for each of the clubs.

And if that isn't enough, in an ingenious idea hatched from the mind of The Filth Wizard we will also be proudly supporting a great cause in this event.

For those who have not followed previously, our very own philreich has shared many stories over the years about his son's struggle with severe scoliosis and how the unsung heroes in our healthcare system have improved his quality of life immensely.

Phil has the honour a creating a fundraising page in support for the Women and Children's Hospital Foundation, he will expand on his personal experiences with the work of the Women and Children's Hospital later. The Sweet FA community has a brilliant history of getting behind awesome causes and it'll be great to add another to the list.

P.S. massive shoutout to Hate for adding the Rookie Classes function to SFA+ because this concept would be 100x more difficult to do if not for his work!

I guess the Foundation doesn't like Americans... tried 4x now to donate, only to get an "Access Denied 4" error. :(

Update: tried multiple CC directly, and now PayPal, and the site can't connect.

This is after I set my VPN exit node to Melbourne, so as far as the network is concerned I'm one of you.

Suspect something is up with the server side, philreich. You might want to contact them for a test. I sent a report to community@wchfoundation.org.au for what that's worth.

Dammit that’s annoying.

Let’s see if they can get it sorted out in the next week, otherwise we can try to create an alternative page on Gofundme connected to the same charity

I'll send them an email tonight.

I'll also try multiple browsers tomorrow, this was FF with a few extensions.

Well, I'm not making the cut.

Whilst I haven’t been to WCH, I have spent much of my career at the WA or Vic equivalents (PCH & RCH) , so this is a cause very close to my heart. Thank you to everyone involved in organising this . Bring on the countdown to Round 16.

Having experienced it first hand, I can say with absolute certainty that the most amazing thing about the Women's and Children's Hospital is the kids. These little Aussie battlers can teach us all a thing or two about resilience - we tend to complain about a small bout of the flu, but the kids at WCH never moan about their lot, while dealing with unimaginable pain.

One little 8 year old girl from the Philippines was admitted while we were there with our son. She was born without a nose, and had flown to Adelaide for reconstructive surgery. Her mother was with her - imagine spending 3 months in a foreign country, unable to communicate with anyone, while worrying about your child's wellbeing. Hopefully that little girl is now a happy 19 year old young woman, and living a life that would have been impossible without the intervention of incredibly skillful surgeons in Australia.

FYI, I was able to successfully donate after switching to Chrome, disabling every browser extension, and using PayPal. Not sure what was actually causing problems, quite possibly my CapitalOne CC extension.

Well done everyone: we've already exceeded $300, and it'd be very nice to put a zero on the end of that figure by the time we're finished here.

Another quick story - while I was visiting our son during his stay at the Women's & Children's Hospital one day, I happened to notice a newspaper article on the wall. It was about a little girl, who the WCH had dubbed their "miracle patient". Up until the age of 13, she had lived a pretty normal life, but suddenly she was struck down with a life threatening brain tumour. Over the next 9 months in hospital, she underwent no less than 7 operations, but she proved to be a real fighter - at the end of those 9 months, she was given a clean bill of health. She went on to complete high school with at least 2 high distinctions, and a very bright future was clearly in front of her.

This is the sort of stuff this wonderful organisation is doing every day, and I can't speak highly enough of them.

Up over $450 now Phil.

I'll also share a story. We have been frequent visitors to the Melbourne equivalent, the RCH.

Our first child, Tom, was born in 2006. About 6 weeks in, we were told by the doctors that he had craniosynostosis, particularly saggital synostosis, a fusing of the centre suture between the fontenelles. A closed suture (any of the 5) causes the skull to develop in a deformed fashion. There was nothing we could do until he was old enough for surgery (10-12mths).

At 11 months old, he had a total skull reconstruction, they literally took the top off above the ears, and put it back together, and created a gap where the suture should have been. It was an 8 hr operation, and completely draining, the hardest day of our lives.

But totally worth it. He's about to turn 18, and he's flying, and a good looking kid (takes after mum).

We donate to the RCH every year, and more than happy to chip in here as well. These places do amazing work.

we spent a nervous week at the Royal Childrens with our 11 month old after getting told they might have tumors

we had to wait for an MRI and then go home and wait for the results which was rather never wracking but I cannot in any way fault the RCH and how they looked after us while we were there, amazing work they do and often under very tough circumstances

always happy to give to these sort of things as you say because we're talking about people that make a real difference in so many lives

Another news article on the wall at my son's ward brought me close to tears. A kind hearted 6 year old Adelaide boy took it on himself to ride his push bike from Ingle Farm to Salisbury (around 6kms): his sole motive was to raise funds for the Women's & Children's Hospital. Donations amounted to around $300 - what a little champ!!! He'd be 17 now, and I wish him every success.

Donated.

Spent a major part of my early years at WCH (or Adelaide Children’s Hospital as it was known then). Suffered osteomyelitis as a 2 1/2 year old and had constant visits until I was 8. Fully recovered thanks to the hard work by the doctors and nurses there

We have a site wide notice for this up now, and everyone who donates will receive a Womens and Childrens Hospital Fundraiser Badge.

Thank you to everyone who has donated, shared their stories so far - we are up to $750 already and haven't even really started yet. 💕🤟

We are not too far away from unveiling the draft order of the three generational teams. Behind-the-scenes the captains
Dingster, Headless, The Filth Wizard, Tonga Bob, serial_thrilla and myself have been hard at work selecting the finest contributors across SFA history.

Tomorrow, Thursday 2nd of November 2023.

The three teams representing the S1-12, S13-24 and S25-36 rookie classes will be unveiled with each individual player selected by the captains to be announced in a draft order from Picks 1 to 18 (or 1 to 20 in the case of S25-36 as ST and Bob have decided direct their team from the sidelines) with a bit of information about their contributions to SFA history.

Friday night - Saturday, 3rd-4th November 2023.

Three round-robin games between the three teams will be simmed and posted as an exhibition.

I encourage everyone to make bets/wagers/pledges on the outcomes of these games as a fun way to raise money for the WCH fundraiser via the page that philreich has set up here:

For example:
I have made a $25 donation up front and will add $1 for every disposal I get across the two games.
