A score of 168 and you lose by 71 points.

That’s awfully stiff.

Finally a second game with a 400 point aggregate and both teams scoring 100!
80's ESCFA seems untapped because of so many missing scores from free online soruces (entire divisions missing from The Age as well)

Technically that was an under-19's game, not sure if one can classify that as professional.

The VFA placed an asterisk next to a few scores like this in Geelong West Thirds matches because they were allowed to continue after the number of Geelong West players on the field fell below 14. From memory, as few as nine Roosters players were on the ground at the end of this match. When you are almost at double the strength of your opponents, a score of 110.27 definitely needs an asterisk.

For example on May 24 1981, Brunswick's Thirds piled on 77.44.506 and kept Geelong West scoreless. It was noted in the VFA Recorder the following weekend that neither the score nor the 506-point margin would count in official records as the Roosters did not field a full team.

I've been doing some work on the SQAFA (South Qld Australian Football Association) First Division results - and found this one to share:

1982 Round 8 - 367 : South Brisbane 39 - 12 - 246 d Acacia Ridge 18 - 13 - 121

Bear in mind that there are some scores I haven't been able to locate yet - and whilst some of those are likely to have been thrashings, there is a fair chance that none relate to any games where both teams scored 100+.

(If anyone has any SQAFA/BAFL details to share, please feel free to contact me.)

In fact, having looked at the opening post again, I could offer these also:

All from SQAFA First Division

322 - 1987 Round 5: Aspley 32 - 12 - 204 d University of Qld 18 - 10 - 118
301 - 1982 Round 14: South Brisbane 24 - 16 - 160 d Aspley 21 - 15 - 141
300 - 1982 Round 6: South Brisbane 23 - 17 - 155 d Strathpine 21 - 19 - 145 (a margin of only 10 points)

Defence was not a priority in the 1982 season. Sherwood was the superior team of the competition in 1982. However, whilst they posted some mammoth scores, the Magpie defence was also good enough to keep other clubs well under 100 points.

And whilst I'm at it, I had a look back at the "QAFL level" competition. I have found records of 25 games resulting in an aggregate score of 300 or more, where both teams amassed 100+ points.
This includes the two shown in the opening post. Do you want the others to add to the list?

Two interesting ones, simply because of the narrow final margin:

303: 1980 Rd 21 (Gabba) - Sandgate 23-14-152 d Morningside 22-19-151 (1 point)
326: 1983 Rd 6 (O'Callaghan Park) - Windsor Zillmere 25-14-164 d Sherwood 24-18-162 (2 points)

Absolutely, thank you for your work.

301: 1988 Rd 16 – Mayne 28-18-186 d Western Districts 16-19-115 (Chelmer)

It first occurred in 1954 - and then didn't re-appear for a further 20 seasons. It certainly reflects a certain era of local football. Since 1988, only one result has got close (298 points in 1990).

I'm still working on lower grade scores, getting my database sorted out. The only comparable result I can find was in the AFLQ Premier Division in 2011 (underpinning the NEAFL comp locally):

315: 2011 Rd 6 – Sandgate 31-13-199 d Burleigh 18-8-116 (Bill Godfrey Oval )

Thanks.

Was really barracking for the 300 aggregate in this weekend's Southport v Frankston VFL finals match. It just fell short at 298, but still a phenomenal scoreline in 2024. From Frankston's perspective, kicking 16.7 in three quarters of football and yet still losing by 92 points is quite remarkable.
