Hill, Ballantyne held back

Hill is noticeably bigger in the calves and thighs and across the chest.

Watching him today, the best way to describe him is like a coiled spring

Hmm yes...or perhaps something like this:

Hill wanders over and grabs a water bottle between laps.
Looks at Lach, raises an eyebrow in "who the **** are you?" expression, checks watch and does another two laps...

I'd go with the first one...sounds more realistic:D

Stand next to Salim next time, everyone says hi to him

Very funny :D

ankle injuries are the worst

I rolled mine playing soccer in a bad tackle (studs up and all that)

had it x-rayed and everything - the doc though it must be a break due to the swelling

that happened in April last year and i only really started getting full use of it 6 months after the injury - I still wear a brace but it's very good atm - if i take a full hit with a ball or a clash of boots i feel a bit of pain and limp around for 30seconds to a couple minutes but it goes and i'll probably always get that in some form or another but I still play 100% so it's not stopping me there - just the odd knock here and there puts me off

Ibbos sounds like its not as bad and he's got a full team of docs, physios etc. to work on him so I think he'll be fine with proper treatment :)

I just hope that the outcome isn't the same.

Its pretty much only AFL where teams BS about injuries so often isnt it?
Theres no need for it there not going to shock any team coming up against them.
They know whats going on.

So all there really doing is letting fans down easy
Annoying fans etc etc.

As for players not participating in preseason training
It surely means theres a problem.
How many times have we heard player x had a terrible pre season that explains his poor year.
Or player X had his best pre season ever an is now reaping the rewards in season.

So there either telling everyone BS excuses for players or pre season ttraining really is that important.
So u wouldnt hold someone back for no reason

Very competitive caper.Fine tolerances.Don't doubt the fact that a declared injury is noted and targetted by all opposition.'Ibbotson's right ankle is weak,if you can hurt him there,do it!'
The less they know, the more speculative and weaker their planning.
It's general soreness or flu for the lot.

serves you right for playing a homo sport like soccer

That's Gold:thumbsu:

A friend who came with me to training today hadn't seen Hill up close before and as he ran past (for about the 12th time in what seemed like 5 minutes) he said, wow that kid is really graceful isn't he, he looks like a thoroughbred racehorse. And that my friend, I said, is exactly what he is.

Good turnout at training yeterday morning.ost of the squad appeared at one stage or another. Fyfe, Ballas and Pitt were with the main group. As reported in The West, Hill did a lot of running as did DeBoer. Even Roger made a brief appearance and walked a lap or so. Looked to be a fairly lowkey session.

has pitt put any muscle/weight on since we picked him up?

i dont like soccer, but im glad it was taken in the right context :thumbsu:

any reason for not liking soccer or you just plain don't like it?

curious that you labelled it a homo sport as well as i'm sure calling it that would get you a lovely reception in a dressing room at most soccer clubs around the world

i dont like it because i find it boring and the supporters are more cretenous than your average sports supporters

as for labelling it a homo sport, i wasnt being serious.

i figured that much hahah

you ever played it though? like properly? lotta fun - but sometimes boring to watch - but then so is watching the saints or the eagles play lol

I'll agree about the supporters but that's still only small minority and it's always blown way out of proportion - your average football supporter is alright it's just the hooligans and the ultras that can get out of hand

Can't say about Pitt Desert D. Good mover though.
Other players doing running sessions were McPharlin, Mundy and Roberton. Roberton had one of those black ankle supports on and, I thought, had a distinct limp.

I thought it was far from a low key session with a lot of one on one work with a heap of heavy tackling , the tackling has been missing so far this pre and that was the heaviest session I,ve seen so far.

Woah, that raises alarm bells for me straight away. That's the reason we burst out of the blocks so hard at the start of last year. It concerns me a bit if we want to start off as well as last year but haven't been simulating how we want to start all summer.

yep would explain the lack of intensity in the kick an giggle match against the wiggles an dorks.

Cant just switch it on.
Need to be doing it in training.

From the training reports ive seen it seems theres a much greater focus on fitness this preseason.
Whereas last pre season i was hearing lots of great reports on players doing lots of skills work an tackling etc.

My impression of the training sessions I've been to is the focus on transition. Moving the ball quickly & efficiently from end to end but always with one group of players simulating the smothering zone style defence.
They start in small groups and handball it around with a couple of players smothering and blocking, then go to sort of half court movement and finally end to end.
All the drills are about moving the ball or defending against it depending which side of the team you are on.

You may be right Salim. By the time I'd scanned the squad for those who've been missing lately and sorted out who was who in the dodgy numbers I didn't have time to pay a lot of attention to what the main group were doing. Mostly it looked like the sort of competitive man on man drills we used to run with the tweve year olds. That's not to say they're not worth doing at this level.
Was that Roberts in #5? Was Hinkley there? I forgot to look for him.
