To the bloke suggesting that Hogan is comparable to the greatest footballer to ever wear purple, get real haha.

Nat Fyfe could win another charlie and would still be the franchises second best all-time player.

Maybe you've got memory loss but Pavlich was something out of this world on his day and we took him for granted and now that he's gone, we miss him. Just like my ex girlfriend, come back Amanda, I love you.

You too Matthew, please come back.

If pav was threatening to leave there would have been suicides

There was nothing quite as satisfying as listening to "Pav will be at Adelaide next season/Juddy is buying real estate in Claremont and will be an Eagle for life" for the whole of 2007, only to have it blow up in their faces.

(Would have been even more satisfying had JK stayed fat and useless, however.)

Why relaxed? Don’t rate him?

Since start of 2017, Melb vs top 8 sides:

1-7 with Hogan
7-6 without

Our forwardline functioned a heap better without him there, just look at how we played from round 22 till the semi final. Is he at worst going to be a very good player? Yes. Does he still have a shit load to work on in his game? Yes.

My honest Hogan evaluation:

Pros:
- Exceptional mobility for a man his size, can turn on a dime with reasonable pace
- Close to the best endurance in the AFL for KPFs, most of his goals are where he runs his man ragged
- Handles the ball as well at ground level as any KPF in the AFL
- Excellent handball for a big man and usually a very good field kick
- Very accurate kick for goal within 40m
- Hasn't played in defence at AFL level but his superb junior form and skillset makes me honestly think he could be a star CHB if you ever wanted to go down that route. Can also as widely covered in the media play up the ground

Cons:
- Contested marking has dropped off since year one when I felt defenders didn't pay him a whole lot of respect. Doesn't run and jump at the ball enough, tends to stand flat footed and try and body his opponent (Which very rarely works on players his size because he is built for endurance, not a monster like Hawkins or peak Pav)
- He has improved his goalkicking distance since he came to the club but has little confidence when 45m out or further. If he sprays the first one he will always have a shit day
- Leading patterns can be pretty poor, multiple times this year he either wants the kick over the top where he has gotten behind his man and it simply isn't a realistic option or he leads too early
- Still has the occasional shitty effort where he sooks about no free, he has improved in this area but will still have that one where he is looking at the umpire instead of having a 2nd effort. Defensive pressure needs a lot of work, very rarely do I see him tackle with any sort of intent

Freo would know all this and would be backing your coaching group/natural progression to fix most of these issues, aside from the contested marking most of his problems are fixable and above the shoulders.

Uh oh, that's called the Joe Daniher effect. Seriously cheers for the honest assessment, still not convinced he's coming tho' ;)

Good summary.

For a KPF his strengths seem to outweigh the negatives, contested marking should improve as he gets older.

If he does come home he may be in a better headspace.

It’ll be intriguing what happens tomorrow because all the contracted guys linked with a move this year have been pretty quiet in the media. Most players these days are happy to stay at their team if a deal can’t be done unless there is a massive falling out between player and club, and in Hogan’s case I think we are prepared to keep him if we don’t get satisfactory compensation.

Mahoney said Hogan will let MFC know of his intentions before the trade period, I feel he has already requested a move if it can be done but it’ll all be revealed in the next 48 hours.

No doubt the pros outweigh the cons, he is still putting up really good goalkicking numbers despite the better teams defending him pretty easily due to a lot of the stuff I mentioned.

Lol, even if everyone is amicable, and the deals are already done in principle, there is no way we know anything in the next 48 hours. This is the trade period after all, trades only go through on the last two days :)

I mean we will know if Hogan actually has requested one. I’m under the impression he has and this has been known for a while, but each day that goes by with him being his usual non-committal self makes me doubt the person who told me.

The King twins are also in the Joe Daniher mould.. So was N. Riewoldt and Pav. Actually, most forwards have that thing that if they miss their first they struggle to get back in there pyschologically.

Thing is though, as per Schmutt's analysis he is a very good kick inside 40 and his first mark will likely be within 40 so it's not going to be a problem 4/5 times. I think the other thing that we have missed which is great for us about Hogan is the ability to follow up when the ball goes to ground.
