Nice. I look forward to it.

I stumbled into this area looking for a vantage and there was an extraordinary amount of enemies - Stalkers, Redeye Watchers, Glinthawks and Ravagers - all together. Eventually got through all that and kept walking, then got a cutscene. A Stormbird came out of the sky and Aloy said something like, "I get the feeling I'm somewhere I shouldn't be again - except this time there's worse than the Matriarchs to caution me."

I was disappointed with how unthreatening the Stormbird was to be honest. Didn't have any issues once I adjusted to its speed and knew where to aim the arrows.

Kept walking past it and there was a ruin symbol but I couldn't find an entrance.

Assuming it's an endgame area?
It's an area you can't reach yet, I spent an hour trying to get in earlier on.

Why does it have to be either of them? Why can't it be its own? Gotta remember this is a brand new IP, it will flesh itself out in time, like Farcry and the Witcher before it.

To me it just feels like it is trying too hard to be both and just missing the mark. By that I mean that once the initial awe wore off I just feel like I've done this all before many times before. It's pretty hard to do something original these days so ciriticism can probably be pretty unfair and of course it's a pretty subjective thing but I'm just finding the further I go the thinner this gets.

I get what you're saying. Don't completely agree, but I do sympathise with it to some degree. My only real complaint is that it's a very safe game. Most of the successful parts of it come from other successful games. Aside from the world, which is unique (but, at least so far, not established as well as it could be), it doesn't bring a lot of new things to the table. Cauldrons and Longnecks are super vanilla despite having the potential to establish themselves as something original.

That said, I adore the game. Combat is so damn satisfying.

First outing so it will be interesting to see how they expand upon them in next game, they touched on some puzzle elements with these but i'd like to that to become a core aspect of these features. I think the Cauldrons could become the biggest part of this series, castlevania styled dungeons with a mix of grueling combat and puzzles would be <3.

**** beta_condition I think I just found that Corruption Zone. How is that even ******* possible?
Which machines? I hope it isn't just to see how you react when you do actually reach this corrupted zone.

Two Corrupted Rockbreakers.

I struggled with one Rockbreaker in the side mission, let alone two Corrupted ones. What the actual ****. ****ing madness.

Yep that's the one, when I first discovered the location I hadn't even seen one before. When they went under ground "WHAT THE ****!". Super intense battle, you need to be fully stocked or you're gonna have a bad day.

I was fully stocked and still got destroyed on my first attempt.

Then I packed my bags and went on my merry way.

It's a vantage point so not sure it is really a spoiler but this was a cool little Easter egg so I'll chuck tags on anyway. I love Easter eggs and don't personally care if they're spoiler'ish so if anyone is up for sharing some I'll happily click the spoiler if marked as such.

One of the vantage points is off a stadium from Guerilla's PSVR game Rigs.

Got it on Friday arvo, have been playing it all weekend and am just loving it. Graphics are amazing, the scenery, the lighting, the shadows, the faces all just look unreal. Probably one of the best games I've seen graphics wise. The story is great, really intriguing, Aloy is sassy and quite likable (though I hate how they say Ay-loy rather than Al-loy). Controls are very fluid. Quite addictive. Reminds me of AC3 a little (the hunting side of things), except improved in every aspect.

Up to the first Carja gate on my way to Meridian:
  • The start really tugs at the emotions a bit when she's just a little girl.
  • Wish Rost didn't die so early, would have like to see their relationship evolve more. Ditto with blonde jerk and whatsherface from the proving.
  • When Teersa says you were born to the mountain just because they found you there was a massive face palm moment! Bloody religious people!
  • That cauldron with the Fire Bellowback was a bitch. Took me half a dozen goes before I figured out the best way to take it down. Have been able to take them out easy enough since in the wild but was a pain in that room with no cover (and no freeze weapons).
  • Do different outfits really do anything?
  • Love the way you rappel!
  • The lure and silent strike combo makes things a little too easy sometimes.
  • I wish you could get overrided creatures to follow you. Seems a little pointless at the moment. Just neutralizes them I guess.
  • Aloy is totally gonna bone Varl.

54 hours to Platinum.
How did you track time played? Is there a way to check or did you track it yourself? I know with some games you can check the save files but I couldn't see that with this game.

Beat out Zelda, though it was expected due to user base.
In the Uk maybe but not in Japan. Japan the switch and Wii U user base equals the ps4 not only that western titles struggle in Japan, along with this being a new ip it's pretty amazing it took first.

Do a manual save or from the main menu go load rather than continue.

I'm loving this, but do wish there was a bit less open world filler. I'm so high levelled that I'm pretty sure I just walked into an endgame area and smashed it despite only being up to Meridian in the main quest line.

Same, I over levelled early now it's becoming a little trivial. I was hoping the game makes it harder to level later to compensate for overdoing it.

As for ther 54 hours platinum thing, I never understand that, I'm 30 hours in and have just reached Meridien. I love just roaming and meditating on clifftops though.

Another minor criticism - I'm so confused about who is who. They introduce so many characters with ridiculous names and then barely develop them, so their names don't stick in my head. Every time I hear a new name I just sit there for five minutes trying to work out who the **** that is.

I think I'll be having small sessions from now on and hitting up only the main quests only. Feeling little burnt out at the moment.

Bound to happen. I think I'm over open world games.
Yeah the open world is a little too Ubisofty for my liking. It's not awful but it does get a little tedious.

I'm constantly mixing in story missions with side stuff like side missions, Cauldrons & Tallnecks.

That's stopped me getting too bored with it, I'm at about 45% completion (I'm guessing about 2/3 of the way through the story) and I'm still having a really good time with it.
