I am really pleased with how we faired in trade week, everything that we needed we obtained would have been great to nab Tippett but can't win them all.

Lisle is a great swingman KP has a lot potential great set of hands will settle well with us, Hudson veteran back up ruck will give us good service for 1-2 years and will give us some extra hardness. Don't know much about Zorko but what I read he sounds like he will be significant contributor

Also we have put ourselves in a great position draft wise in what is being called a shallow draft

A big win for us I think :)

On a scale from 1 to 10, 1 being got completed ripped off,10 being a huge win, 5 being breaking even and 0 being a nothing trade.

Pick 12 for Mitch Clark ----------------------------- 6/10
Jordan Lisle for Pick 29 ---------------------------- 3.5/10
Pick 69 for Luke Power ----------------------------- 0/10
Ben Hudson for Pick 70 ----------------------------- 0/10
Dayne Zorko and pick 47 for Pick 34 and pick 50------ 5/10

Really not sure about the last one. If Zorko finishes 2012 in the best 22 I'd say win and if fails to show anything at AFL level it is probably a loss.

Overall - 5/10

Superbly. Given everything, of course. Clark was going to leave regardless, and we got the best possible deal out of it.

Basically got Hudson for free, which is a nice insurance should the unthinkable happen to Leuy. Then Lisle and Zorko for very fair prices in an average draft. And with all the other temptations we still came out of it with picks 8 & 12. Unreal week for mine.

Clark for pick 12- About as good as we could hope for
Lisle- I think he is what we needed- for CHB not up forward, a lot of Haw supporters unhappy he's leaving so thats a good sign.
Hudson- not convinced
Zorko- 12 goals is a fair effort and has done well at awards nights (albeit QAFL), would have liked if he can grow a few more centremetres but ill judge him when he plays.

Love optimists.

I think we overpaid slightly for Zorko and Lisle and got the best deal we could for Clark.

The other two are nothing trades.

I'd go 6/10 in terms of results with the potential to rise if both Zorko and Lisle cement their spots.

The best part of trade week was that we had a clear strategy. The biggest issue with 2009 was how some of the recruits didn't really fix list problems. 2011 saw a far more strategic approach.

Great. Genuinely great.

Plugged some gaps that will improve the list straight away without compromising our draft position. Also shattered the perception that we are trade table pushovers.

Couldn't agree more I especially like the move we made for Lisle I think he will really progress with us

Teehee

I am happy with the result of trade week, we still have three picks inside 30 and added some depth to the squad, I hope Zorko and Lisle can make an impact in 2011.

As we received a pick for Luke Power does that mean we are out of reach of GWS next year??

Pretty much agree with your assessment.
Clark under the circumstances is best we could have hoped. Perhaps we may have been able to milk it for an upgrade for one of our other picks but I am relatively happy with the eventual outcome.

Zorko we effectively paid pick 34. I agree here we overpaid a bit.

Lisle I think we seriously got bent over. I do not rate Lisle and neither do the Hawthorn football department. There are major and serious deficiencies in his game. It is interesting that Hawthorn drafted Bowman (a team mate of Lisle In the Box Hill VFL side as a replacement with pick 56) The argument that there were Buddy and Roughed ahead of him does not wash. It was the same argument we used to offload Morrison to Richmond when Brown and Bradshaw were at their prime. Lisle is another Morrison IMO.

Power and Hudson trades Perhaps we could have picked up Hudson in the Rookie draft for nothing and Power I would have liked us to get GWS get him through the PSD for obvious reasons.
Power trade may return to haunt us if we don’t get our young guys signed.

So, overall 6/10
Whilst Kerr has done a lot better than Gumby, it is still well behind what I would expect of our List Manager.

This and the fact we didn't go crazy with Tippett (when by all reports he has a clause to go cheap next year if he wants) makes it a great week.

All in all pretty good. We had 2 players out and 3 come in and i think we have 5 spots on our list, so that brings it to around 4. We have 3 picks inside 30, so we are still in good position in the draft. With only 4 spots we might not use many more than 3 picks anyway.

We went after some needs which is what i like. We needed some backup in the ruck, we got Hudson. We needed a forward replacement, we got Lisle. While the jury is still out on Lisle, he is atleast a little bit developed, meaning he can play AFL footy right away. He can also play forward or back, so he gives us a little more KPP depth at both ends, which was something we needed. We also need a little more goal kicking and running power, we got Zorko. Again, a player AFL ready. We basically gave up picks 29 and 34 to do this, which in a compromised draft, isn't a deal breaker.

Onto of this, picks 8 and 12 will bring in some good talent yet, so it's pretty exciting for 2012 i think.

Great result!
Lisle and Zorko close to senior selection, and picks 8 and 12 should be thereabouts also.
Glad we didn't give up picks 8 and 12 for Tippett who has 149 career goals from 83 games.
Let's build slowly and surely.

Couldn't agree more !!

I think Dr Kerr dipped our Trade Week in Tasmanian Waters.

Went In (with):
Picks 8 29 30 34 52 70 88 - Rischa Compo & needs for Ruck, KPP & Mid

Came Out (with):
Picks 8 12 30 47 69 88 - Rischa Compo & Hudson, Lisle & Zorko

Given my obvious bias, I won't be rating our Trade Week performance (even though I honestly believe it was a great result for our Club).

Rob Kerr is writing up a detailed overview of the entire Trade Week which will be published on our site tomorrow. But a couple of things that will probably be revealed include the following:

* The Club was planning on taking Zorko with one of either picks 29, 30 or 34 at the National Draft - so giving up 34 was more a guarantee that we actually got him (considering other clubs were circling).

* With respect to the young KPP's in this year's draft, the Lions don't believe there is a huge range of quality big men available in 2011 past the first 15 or so. Lisle, at only 21, was considered a better propsect than one of the possible 18 year-old's that might have been available at pick 29. Time will obviously tell, but that was the rationale.

* Ben Hudson is a short-term and cost-effective fix, but that's precisely what the Club requires. Players like Renouf, Blake etc would come at much higher price tags and are seeking number one ruck roles. Hudson, meanwhile, understands his role and will add some much-needed grunt and physicality which has been missing with Charmo on the sidelines.

* The Power trade was a formality. The Club had simply too much respect for the guy - who is one of our greatest ever players - to deprive him of his wish to start a coaching/development role with the Giants. But at the same time, it was important we received at least something (albeit minor) in return as compensation. Also to clarify, this trade does not make us exempt from a GWS poach next year.

While many of you will no doubt view this largely as Club propaganda, I assure you that these were all legitimate considerations.

But keep and eye out for Rob Kerr's review tomorrow. It won't appease everybody, but will reveal some of the facts and hopefully answer some of your questions.
