I thought it was 2 B-grade standard plotlines that only served to tie in the shock ending. How long between the time Robin and Barney slept together and Robin finding out she was pregnant? It all seems a little unrealistic to me.

Do we have to do this every week?

FWIW, apart from one or two slight slip-ups, I think this season has been really strong.

Yep, I challenge anyone to name a show that was going as strong into the later seasons as it was earlier. Probably The Simpsons, but I'd say that's the exception.

Reminds me of seasons 8 & 9 of Seinfeld. The jump the shark cries were strong, but I've been watching those eps lately and there are some real classics in there. The overall quality isn't probably as strong as the earlier ones, but underrated. HIMYM falls into this territory I think.

IMO this season has been an improvement on the last.

I don't get it, is it implied that it's Kevin's baby or Barney's?

Anyway did anyone see the subtle reference made to Romeo and Juliet where at the end of the episode, Barney climbing in through the window is slightly similar to the famous "Romeo, Romeo, where art thou Romeo?" where Romeo makes his plea from the garden of Juliet. Each scenario is similar also in the sense that the love shared by the two are forbidden as in it can never occur. Maybe I'm reading too much into this but this reference that I picked up maybe hints at a disastrous conclusion in the relationship between HIMYM.

Yeah, this was a good episode... as mentioned, the Ghostbusters reference was super (and maybe prophetic/self-referential as Segel is often touted as one of the new busters in the reboot).

As soon as Barney had to take a walk outside I definitely expected a decent sized Barney/Robin revelation. I have a feeling they will draw this out to next season... Barney will marry Nora at the end of this season which explains him asking if he is making the right decision in the future grabs. It means they can take a turn next season into tackling divorce issues as Barney meets his kid and ends up with Robin, hence, the difficulty in the Ted/Barney/Robin saga (Ted could be the only one that knows the baby is Barneys). Fleshed out, it could become a very difficult and emotional plot turn. There is plenty of time to make this really good.

The mystery guy from the red cowboy boot episode is supposedly part of Robin's future as well so interesting to see how he fits into it. I'm guessing Barney isn't the father as there didn't seem to be enough time between when they slept together and the last episode but I could be wrong.

Just re-watched the red cowboy boots episode (s3ep19; 'everything must go'), and saw no sign of the myster guy. I remember him, but was it that episode for sure?

Is it that guy in the store?

I think it was from last season where Ted talks about the day he bought them and Robin met the guy that day

Isn't the episode that you're thinking of the one where Barney's Dad is trying to convince him that he's still cool and they all go out to a bar where Robin see's him again?

It's hard to remember as I didn't watch the episodes of that series more than once.

They totally nailed that 30-something feeling of probably not wanting kids but not wanting to be alone in their old age.

That episode struck a real chord with me. Had a tear in my eye.

I've said it before in this thread but the reason why I stick with this show is for episodes like this. When HIMYM is at the top of its game its incredibly funny and also incredibly touching.

That was a very good episode. Had the serious storyline that HIMYM can dish out, while still leaving in the humour when appropriate. I liked that they also didn't give away the whole story just yet, also didn't see the park bench part coming which added to the mystery of what happens in the future.
