Opinion How many current players are actually worth a top 3 pick in a trade?

From freo
Brayshaw(24)
Mvp AA bnf plug in and play captain
Serong(23)
AA Bnf captain worthy
Amiss(21)
Freo leading goal kicker
Nearly 50 games and 100 goals still a couple years from entering his prime
Young(23)
189cm mid AA squad
his best is game changing
Jackson(22)
AA squad 200cm game changer
Yet to enter prime

All durable, originally picked inside the top 10 and have the bulk of their career ahead of them.

I wouldn’t trade any of them for pick 3 as their value to freo exceeds that

Treacy, surely?

Assuming that if you have a top 3 pick, you're a rebuilding club rather than a contender:

Adelaide - Rankine
Brisbane - Ashcroft
Carlton - Walsh, Curnow
Collingwood - N Daicos
Essendon - None
Fremantle - Treacy, Serong, Brayshaw, Jackson, Young
Geelong - Holmes
Gold Coast - B King, Anderson, Walter, Andrew, Rowell
GWS - T Green, Taylor, Cadman, Callaghan
Hawthorn - Day
Melbourne - Pickett
North Melbourne - Sheezel, Wardlaw, McKerrcher, Larkey, LDU
Port Adelaide - Butters, Rozee, JHF
Richmond - None
St Kilda - None
Sydney - Gulden, Warner, McDonald
West Coast - Reid, Allen
Western Bulldogs - Bontempelli, Jamarra, Darcy
I would add Reilly Thillthorpe to the Adelaide list. Finding a tall forward prospects like him is the rarest of commodities in a draft.
If you have Ben King on the list, the. RT must be as well.

Just saw Day and Holmes are rated by the herald sun as top 10 players under 24. For some reason this was the first thread I thought off, if your not going to trade a top 3 pick for one of the top 10 players under 24 in the country than I don't know who you would trade one for.

jackag24 what is that you're missing that everyone else can see. 😘

Oh.. well if the Herald sun wrote an article then I better sharpen up!

Day could be the one to convince me otherwise, if he's AA next year I'll change my tune.

Can he go from a good midfielder into the cripps/bont trajectory? We'll see

West Coast - Reid, Allen
Fremantle - Serong, Brayshaw, Jackson
Port - JHF, Butters, Rozee
Crows - Rankine, Thilthorpe
Brisbane - Ashcroft, McCluggage
Gold Coast - King, Anderson, Rowell, Walter
Sydney - Warner, Heeney, Gulden
GWS - Green, Callaghan, Cadman, Taylor
Geelong - Holmes
Collingwood - Daicos
Hawks - Day
Melbourne - Petracca
Saints -
North - Sheezel, Wardlaw, Larkey, McKercher
Richmond - Bolton
Essendon - Merrett
Dogs - Bontempelli, JUH, Darcy
Carlton - Curnow, Walsh

Saints deserve none but id suggest King, Nas and Phillipou, Wilkie, Marshall

Mckercher was pick 2 less than a year ago and had a very impressive first season. Opinions like this make high picks so overrated and undervalue recently drafted players.

Who would you pick over Mckercher in the upcoming draft?

Mckercher is a good kick, but he's got zero defensive side or physicality

Day
Newk
Dear
Watson
Meek

All worth top 5 picks. Not sure about top 3. Day and New probably.

Sicily at 29 would be worth 2 x top 10.

Dear, I would want pick 1 plus change. 19 year old key forward who was shown that he can stand up in finals. No disrespect to Day or Newk, midfielders are a dime a dozen, and they are definitely a top 5 pick. Young key forwards are a little bit rarer.

Certainly showed more than Darcy. Flukey kick combined with terribly positioned defender is all he managed.

Even Naughton's goals were more on the lucky side than the earned side. Dear could well be the best contested mark in the game in a year or 2. Already if he gets any space he is going to take the mark. With some more strength he will be able to compete in the air.

McKercher would go 1 if he was in this draft.

This really isn't a jerk off thread about Max Holmes ffs. Stop getting upset that i picked X player from your club.

If i don't rate Holmes as much as you then just get over it.

And Mills is an AA, Rising Star winner, BnF and captain of his club

Well if i don't think he's worth pick 3, he's certainly not worth pick 1 or 2 champ....
Your suppositions are looking as flaky as your teams finals campaign..

That’s the role he played this year. You’re judging far too early, just like a lot of people did with Daicos and Sheezel in their first year. Expecting the full product of a player in their first year is ridiculous.

Again, who would you take ahead of him in this years draft? Which player is going to adapt to afl level quicker and be a better player? You have no idea, which is why picks are overrated.

I'd think north should have taken watson or Caddy ahead of him. Mckercher will be a mid, they have heaps considering duursma has star written all over him at 4

Given the way that Geelong tend to favor not bottoming out, and taking risks on later picks and mid season draft picks etc.

It makes you wonder why Geelong fans get so precious at the idea of spending pick 3 on him.. when it seems like even your club is adverse to the idea of that..

Does this really hurt your pride so much?

Was a terrible take at the time and only looks worse now that Holmes has tore it up in a final.
